@Aero:

I’m looking forward to the TT game, too. I’m starting work on designing a handlebar/clip ons mod to use with the PS4. You know if “Big Mac” says it’s a good and accurate game...

And here’s how I spend most of my time when I’m playing Ride 2. If you can find it for under $30, it’s worth getting. Plays pretty good with a DualShock controller. Lots of tracks and bikes. It’s like the Gran Turismo or Forza of bike racing games.

Yea, can’t get much better than having Mac endorse it, (well maybe Joey if he was alive)!
The frame rate is incredible and graphics amazing as well. Mike and I have talked briefly about building actual bike rigs so I’m going to start looking into that more seriously now. There are a ton of car rigs on the market but not much for bikes. If I can make something that works really well and make it for a decent price might be worth manufacturing them.
This IOM sim is what I’ve been waiting for. I don’t have many bucket list items but one is racing my GP bike at the Classic TT.

Ride 2 looks like a big improvement over 1 for sure.

Hi@GUTTERBOY3007 , I'm at the bar having dinner (Tilted Kilt), and I just tried a "Super Trooper" beer. Stout with coffee and doughnut flavor . It's actually really good!

Thought of you though, you doughnut eating, coffee drinking, cop.:lol::lol:
Not anymore he ain’t! Now he’s a hairy round mankini wearing grid girl... you don’t wanna know what flavour that tastes like

This is a little beyond what I'm looking to build, but it's still pretty cool.

This is more of the level that I'm interested in building. Thrustmaster made a handlebar set for the PS2, so it would be cool if I could mod that as a starting point.

Possibly base the controller on this one. I know it will be "off" since you actually countersteer a motorcyle, unlike directly steering like you do in a car. It would still be more immersive than a controller.

Sounds great, I love a good coffee stout. We have two breweries here and neither one does much with stouts or Porters.
Janice just made a trip to the mainland last week and brought back some Avalanche Vanilla Porter (Colorado brewed). Delicious as always .

Hey Gr8, how have you been? Glad to hear you’ll back racing again soon. The Tilted Kilt, huh? Were you with your wife? That place has some nice “scenery”.

I think I’m the only cop (retired now) who hates the taste of coffee and donuts. It’s kinda like everything having bacon added to it now for some reason. They recently had a Bourbon & Bacon tasting party, and I get the bourbon part because I like it, but why bacon? I might have to start eating maple flavored donuts covered in bacon so I can gain some weight to look sexy in my mankini on the grid. And @Robbie my “flavor” tastes like pickles and shame.

Ps. @Aero: I just preordered IOMTT from Amazon Prime for $47. We’ll have to try some multiplayer racing.

Amazon prime here it's CDN$69. That's US$56. Did you have a coupon or something to get it for $47. ?
I see there are going to be sidecars as well, woohoo!

Don't like coffee, don't like donuts, don't like bacon on anything and everything? The only thing saving you is the booze, otherwise I was gonna demand your man card back. Mmmmmm, jelly donuts.....with bacon and Canadian maple syrup oozing out. I think I just made a mess in my pants.

Sidecars? Really? Steve, I'll be your monkey.

Awwwww group A gets the good looking, good sounding older cars. New stuff has no style, some borders on ugly. With the exception of the panoz, they all sound wimpy as well. I can't wait for the real man cars. The mighty fire breathing 917s. Now if they could give us a Mclaren m20, Ferrari 512 coda lunga, and Lola t70 to boot! ....woooohoooo... we could have some fun.

@Aero: “Amazon prime here it's CDN$69. That's US$56. Did you have a coupon or something to get it for $47.”

Nope, I didn’t use a coupon or code. It said $59.99, -$12 Prime Savings = $47.99. It applies that discount to all the games I buy (though the discount amount varies by game and original msrp). Don’t know why, but I’m not complaining. I wonder if it’s due to the amount of money we spend on Amazon each year?

And sidecars will be fun. You’ve already got your monkey (more like shaved ape), I’ll see if I can find one too. Mine better look like Zira from Planet of the Apes! Without eyebrows she kind of reminds me of the number 3 on my “Cheat List”. #1 is Catherine Zeta-Jones, #2 is Charlize Theron, and #3 is Whoopi Goldberg! Yummmyyy! Lol

I got the same deal just a promotion

Hey, we gotta spread it around, keep everybody happy. What, no mention of that '69 Camaro :D

I just went through the checkout and stopped shy of hitting place order. No discount's here for prime membership (other then free shipping), with tax came to CDN $79.99 You guys always get better deals in the US, must be the population. I'm going to hunt for some discount codes first.

Whoopi is only your #3, wow, she'e been at the top of my list for at least 20 years now :D

@coltsjugg
Shut up Colts!
Haha.....jk......it's been so long I just had too.....

Can one of us buy you a copy and send it?

I was playing with the F40 last night and thinking it would be a good B class to the 917s A class at LeMans . Guess bear and I will just have to step up our 'A' game if we want to race the cars we love .
See what I did there...

Thanks for the thought of that Shaun, but by the time convert to Cdn $, shipping, and possible customs charges and tax the savings wouldn't be worth it. Looked around and there doesn't seem to be any coupons for new release video games either. Oh well.

The handlebar control set up is looking like it's going to be a bit complicated and counter steering almost impossible to replicate. I haven't found anything that's been commercially made since the thrustmaster bars as Gutter posted. Maybe those could be modded to run on the PS4 but I haven't found anything re someone trying that. It's looking more like rewiring a DS4 to homemade controls. Even just having a set of bars that you just turn would still be better than a controller.
This was the closest video I found heading in that direction. Making up bits like that would be easy so I'm thinking first step is getting a used DS4 and delving into the electronics part of it first before wasting any time building stuff first.

@Aero: I’m going to give this a try along with the Thrustmaster Freestyler handlebars. It'll run me about $60 to $70 in total, and I’ll let you know how (if) it works. It won’t have foot shifting or braking, but I’ll see about modding a controller to allow for that. For the “motorcycle” frame I’ll probably use a repurposed piece of workout/exercise equipment.

In the video you posted he used a smart phone for headtracking. On War Thunder I use an Rii i7 mini air mouse (aka “gyro mouse”) attached to my headphones with the activation button mapped to the throttle of the HOTAS controller. I found it too disorienting to have headtracking activated all the time. Pushing the button allows me to track an enemy airplane and when I release the button my view goes right back to center and out of the front of the plane. The PS camera was too sketchy (imprecise) to be effective in a dogfight.

Looks like a great project just a bit above my expertise. Who am I kidding, I would not even know where to begin. I think I have an older DS4 laying around you can have. I also have a G27 wheel you are welcome too for parts if you think it will help.

Be interesting to know how those bars feel, they look narrow and not that heavy duty. I have access to a huge boneyard of used bikes so I'm thinking of using a frame and seat, then I can mount foot controls where i want and mount whatever type of bars as well. I want to be in a semi race position but the leaning forward would get uncomfortable after awhile without real world wind and forces acting on you. So a comfortable cushioned pad to lean my torso on would get attached to the chassis. That's the thought right now. I'm not that concerned with any head tracking stuff at this point.

Thanks Sgeti, we'll talk.

Looks like too much work.

Only if you're a LBoB :D

@David: messing around with projects is what us retired guys do. I’ve built my race and flight rigs, so the motorcycle rig will give me something to do. I’m already looking forward to building another theater in my new house in Austin. I got bored and built a golf sim using a projector, screen and a ps3 with move controllers. It’s like you’re really standing on the fairway or putting green.

@Aero: you could probably mount the G27 base vertically and swap out the wheel with some handlebars and a triple clamp. Then use the ds4 internals for the throttle and front brake once you rewired them onto the handlebars. It’s a simple ratio potentiometer to simulate throttle or brake actuation. You’d have to run a gimx emulator thru a laptop to make it compatible with the PS4 though. I think Alex used to use it (gimx) before he got a new wheel. He could probably give you some pointers. I’m thinking a t80 wheel might be a better/easier/cheaper option since it’s already ps4 compatible. I just ordered the ps2 —> ps4 adapter and a Yamaha PS2 motorcycle controller to see if I can get it to work. Not bad for under $50 total.

I was actually one of the early users of the gimx, had built one for the laptop and one using a Rasp P2. I don't want to go that route again, worked ok but a bit of a pain. Alex had more issues with his than I did. We both bought new compatible wheels eventually. I'm not sure on this yet, but why even have to go through a wheel base, I should be able to make all work by wiring everything to a DS4. In the early stages of this so just throwing thoughts out there right now.

If you like Greta Van Fleet, check out these guys. Zeppelin-like guitars and the lead singer kinda sounds like Ozzy when he was with Sabbath.

I tried to copy the link..but not sure how.... anyhow, check out this band from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
Their name is one bad son. My favorite song is retribution blues. It's worth a listen, they got their own sound.
( you have to type it in on you tube) One Bad Son, Retribution Blues.

@Aero: You could probably use a digipot, since it resisists contamination and vibration when compared to an analog potentiometer. Here’s the formula needed to calculate resistance of RL if using it as a voltage divider:

VL=
R2 RL
———————————- Vs
R1 RL + R2 RL + R1 R2

I think you’re correct about using a DS4 as the basis since the games we race are controller compatible right out of the box. Let me know what you’re thinking on how to wire it up. How useful is Raspberry Pi or Arduino in this type of project, or are you thinking direct soldering to a motherboard without any other programming?

Kind of my thought process was this, and I had thought about a digipot. Go from DS4 to digipot, then digipot to analog pot controls on rig. I think that would work or am I missing something? I'm ok at electronics but no whiz. I have a good buddy that is though, that's where I have seen a digipot.

Too Ozzy for my liking. Greta van Fleet is coming to Ottawa, ahhhhh, so?

This is more my style. Monster Truck, I believe they are from Winnipeg.
Canadian music rocks.
