They indeed have a great model selection (the fact that they do so many local cars really helps towards that, like where the heck one's gonna find a Leaf? Of course, assuming one wants one, you guys are crazy lol), but their castings are SO wrong. Proof? The GTR. Just look at it. It's like a zamac blob. Your vaunted NSX isn't much better either. And it's like that with almost every model.

Knew you had strong opinions on it :D

Never claimed the NSX was a good model to be fair, it's just one I had to have, being the NSX-R. I'd love their Civic R sedan, but it's even worse. My main reason for liking the Tomica ones is to have something unusual, and the actual boxes they come in are beautifully illustrated and quite retro, in this world of blister packs!

Not seen their GT-R. I have a GT-R, but no idea who it's made by. Or I can't remember, anyway.

Stopped at Toys R Us on the way home and managed to find the other half of my Mustang body error set. :D

Yeah definitely worth the $3.50 I paid for it. Even the spare on the roof is rubber.

Edit: Apparently Kroger stores are getting their own Mystery packs to be known as "Super Speeders". And the RX-7 will be in the release in white. :)

That just isn't fair! :grumpy: We don't have any Kroger stores here... Loving that white on the RX-7, any information on other models they'll have in that series?

And speaking of that Jeep, I had to get one myself. :D Stopped by Walmart to look for it specifically. Walmart has finally been updating JL stock a lot more. Was tempted to buy the Work in Progress Mustang, but wanted to save some cash for my trip to BJ's for scale models. ALSO, found more of the variations of the Porsche 911 GT3. TWO of them were on the pegs! Seems to be a common variation then... :guilty:

JL Jeep Cherokee and MB Holden Ute. Seriously Matchbox, leave these cars alone. :yuck: Wishing I didn't miss out those years when they had cars that actually looked realistic...

I do like buying Tomicas for a change from the usual Hot Wheels/Matchbox. My favorite of the alternatives, mainly due to the Japanese domestic vehicles. :D

Got a picture of the GT-R? We can always help. :)

Who's winning the Tomica Capsule lot? It's at $6.50 right now. Winner gets a trade with me. :dopey:

I don't actually own any Tomica myself, but i hear you on the boxes, they do look really nice... well from the pics iv'e seen anyway.

It would be interesting to see the GTR you have, if it looks pretty accurate and the scale/proportions looks spot-on, then i'm guessing it's the same cheapo supermarket special that iv'e got. it's made by 'Realtoy' (branded as 'Fastlane' in Toys'R'Us).
It puts the Tomica GTR to shame, and poops from the greatest height known to man, on the crappy Hot wheels casting (imho).

I couldn't agree more on the Tomica boxes. Artwork is money, and staying with boxes are nice touch.

Speed whatever Mystery packs, I think my local Fred Meyer chains are part of the Kroeger group. Unfortunately, Fred Meyers is one retailer locally I swear have insiders picking out all and any coveted cars. They carry more cars than just about any stores, and you will never ever find anything there. I'll keep trying, but I'd be better off spending six bucks on eBay to get that RX-7. It looks REALLY good.

Scary part is, it's not that bad on this Holden. Job they did on other cars, I swear they were sabotaged.

P.S. Nice pick up on the Cherokee. The pic R1600 took with the thing out of the package(wow, that does not sound right), Jeep looks amazing. 👍

The Jeep wasn't really an investment for me so I popped it open. :D
It's not an investment for me, but you know how collectors prefer stuff sealed in packages? I think that's it for me(sit down, Cano!). I just realized that I don't have a single Johnny Lightning out of blisters. Greenlight, only one's I've opened are the Diorama series cars, and I have the lot of loose ones I picked up on eBay, that's it.

While not the best cars, I guess there is another incentive to Tomicas. :dopey:

I tend to keep a lot of my cars sealed too, and i really don't consider myself a serious collector, i do open some now and again, but also really enjoy putting them all in a large storage box, forgetting about them for a while.. then rediscovering cars that i forgot i'd bought, all still nicely undamaged fresh in the box.
Of-course, that doesn't work if you happen to be a very tactile person by nature, and just have to touch everything.

[EDIT],
This is how i imagine most serious collectors to be like

Exactly, I guess it's like baseball card collecting for me.

As far as the Spinal Tap go, all I know is that I want that shirt.

My Tomica 86 finally came. :D

Apologies, it's late afternoon here and the light is terrible. I also ordered myself that Suziki rally car and the STi sedan, I mentioned yesterday.

Wow, at first when I saw the pictures I thought it looked like the 1:64 scale Maisto Nissan GT-R. Came in single packs, but I've mainly been looking for the Maisto Elite Transport pack with the flatbed truck and Nissan GT-R.

Though not the best, it's still a cool model. 👍

Actually, from some angles it does bare a slight resemblance to the GT-R. But my terrible photo probably isn't doing it any favours.

Buddy, that box says it's the first edition - special color. I went with the red one, because I thought it would be cool to have the head & taillights stand out, but I don't believe my box said anything about special paint.

I was talking about homeforsummer's GT-R pictures. ;) You posted right when I finished typing up mine. Btw, awesome purchase with the 86. Rather jelly. :p

Didn't know the Silver was a "special" edition. :scared: I just preferred the red due to it being easier to see the taillights. :indiff:

Wait...really?

I only went for silver, because the seller had like over 20 red ones available vs less than 10 silver ones.

Here's my pic from before, without the "special color" marking.

Same, until the Leaf arrived. If you're interested in others, Matchbox does a Honda Insight, Tomica does a CR-Z and Toyota Prius (and the Prius+), and Matchbox does a Fisker Karma. Not sure if there are any Chevy Volts in Hotwheels/Matchbox scale yet, and I can't find any first-generation Insights either. Expect someone will do a Tesla Model S fairly soon though.

Yeah, I seen both the Prius, Fisker and Insight from MB. But I really don't like the cars IRL, so I dropped them. I hope that MB creates the CR-Z and the Volt soon. Those two I would love to see, but until then, I'll look out for the Tomica CR-Z for now.

I want to see the GT by Citeroen made from MB, HW or Tomica. After seeing that car on GT5P and GT5, ME WANT!!!

But thanks for the info though.

They beat me to it!!! I was thinking of doing a white FB in a race livery with one of my doubles of SA22Cs.

I'll keep a eye out for it though and I'm liking the bag design to go with it and the new series also. And since Food4Less and Smiths (Las Vegas) is part of Krogers, I can have a slight chance to find it.

I'm guessing they will make either a silver, red, orange or a gold one next.

The Stig, in smaller form . By the way, I like the casting. Looks better than the HW CBAR35 cast.

Wow, at first when I saw the pictures I thought it looked like the 1:64 scale Maisto Nissan GT-R.

That's what I was thinking of also. The Top Gear Editions aren't too shabby. They come into a more realistic look for a 1/64 car, which is good.

And I agree with you also Medigo. MB, leave the cars alone with these wacked graphics!!!

@Spacegoat: Congrats on the GT86 bro. It looks good, but I'll buy both red and silver 86s, cause I can't chose between the two .

And by the way do anybody knows who makes the SL65 AMG Black Series? Since I seen that car photos on the Internet, I have been on the lookout for it and no prevail.

Interesting to see more shots of the 86. Looks okay but wheels let it down. When I get mine I might change them - I think R1600Turbo has done that with his, unless I'm mistaken.

Yeah... I'm hoping that either MB or HW does the CR-Z, as from the photos I've seen of the Tomica one it (surprise surprise) doesn't look that great. Mainly down to the wheels, which I guess can be changed. However, if HW or MB does a CR-Z I just hope they do them in stock colours, rather than some crazy livery.

The Stig, in smaller form . By the way, I like the casting. Looks better than the HW CBAR35 cast.

It's not bad, but not perfect. Can't complain for something I got free anyway!

Agree, not bad at all, the wheels look great!. Although i love the Realtoy GTR, i really do wish they had those wheels rather than the generic 5 spoke.

I will add, although i'm really not keen on the Hot Wheel casting.. i do like the separate plastic headlights. (i'm not a HW hater incase anybody was thinking that).

a6m5, agree, cool shirt. 👍

Less than four minutes on the auction for those Tomicas. Please tell me someone here is going to win it!

Edit: Sold for $6.50. :nervous:

Don't give in the "gotta have it now" syndrome. Just wait, they'll show. Hell we don't even have N case cars here yet...

And as far as the Mustang goes, still a hell of a lot more rare than the regular release. Even if you see a few, but I've only seen the one in 2 months means if you spread them out evenly across the country it's still rare. Definitely worth more than the standard release.

I give you a quarter for false advetising :sly:

Knew you had strong opinions on it :D

Well yes... I have several vintage Tomicas and a few China castings and the quality drop is dramatic. And after looking at everyone's Toyota 86, they REALLY need to update their wheel line. I can't believe they're usign the same wheels as in the 70s.

Turns out it's Mondo Motors. I got it as part of a Top Gear-themed thing from a Secret Santa last Christmas, which is why there's a Stig at the wheel.

Dude, that's pretty good. It's better than Hot wheel's and Tomica's,anyway. The wheels are money.
