Because in my opinion they look better than Hot Wheels. Looks are subjective.

Plus, I did a wheelswap on that 458.


And same goes to your opinion on Tomicas. I like Tomicas overall.

I would absolutely hold a candle in your favor if they cost the same as HWs, but at those prices I can't help bur facepalm at you. But hey, it's your money, and it's not like you don't know anything better. I wouldn't pay a buck for one of those.

EDIT: And make no mistake, I know what it is liking horrible brands, I have a strange fascination with Playart, some of their models are amongst the worse I have ever seen in my life. And I want them.

Umm... let's not escalate this discussion more than we need to, ok chaps? This is the "collectors thread", and not the "only show what others like thread". Last time I checked, both good and bad models are considered in the same light when posting. Even if one model is bad, there's no need to force an argument between two people just because of taste. As you know, taste is subjective, since no two people have the same taste. So let's just stick to the topic, alright?

And Kakashi, just calm down, we get it. It's your choice and you are entitled to it (as one should regardless of quality and/or taste), and Cano, we know you're not a fan of the Bburago Ferraris. That's all we need to know, it's as simple as that.

Hot Wheels may not even cost a dollar in the Flipland.

But that 458 Speciale is definitely better than HW's P1 despite the slightly blobbier edge.

More stuff! I got all of these for pretty cheap.

I'm pretty familiar with this Alfa 33 made by Polistil (this one is branded as Penny).

I already had two from my dad. It might not look like it at first glance but this one is in the best condition. The paint on the wheels is nicest, the windows have no cracks, the stickers are still there and the base isn't as oxidized as the other two. Sweet! 👍

Matchbox Rolls Royce Silver Shadow released in 1967. The paint is awesome (the shade I mean. Condition not so much) and the boot/trunk opens!

Matchbox MG 1100 released in 1966. It's seen better days, but this particular casting has so much character! It has a little plastic driver and a dog in the back seats which is cool.
And the essential boat-compatible tow hook!

Now up for some German stuff!

Audi 100 coupe by Schuco. I'm really loving these old Schucos.

Up next is a VW 411.

The paint on the wheels didn't last over the years it seems as the blue plastic is showing through.

Too bad the mint examples ( ) are expensive. As are most mint die cast cars that reach a respectable age. 👍



And now for something completely different.

Thought some of you might get a kick out of this Majorette Toyota lite ace. I'm not sure what I even want to do with it.

I do know that I'm restoring this one. I really like this casting by Siku but they're bizzarely scarce in good condition on ebay, so screw it I'm making my own.

Woah, Kakashi, give Cano some respect, would ya? I think I know where he is coming from - there is this twilight zone in collecting because of the reasons people collect.

And I think I know the problem with this thread; it has got too big for its boots.

Let me take care of it - and I'm sure the solution will make many HW collectors happy.

I don't want to go back into this thread and dig out quotes - but let me say the following:

I've heard many 'collectors' in here say: "That's it! No more Hot Wheels for me" or 'Hot Wheels sucks. They're junk" or "That's it! I'm done with Hot Wheels" etc.

That's fine. But it also makes the title of the thread and the subject of the discussion moot.

As a first-time visitor to GTPlanet, if I was to google myself into this thread in search of Hot Wheels, I would be sorely disappointed to see only Kakashi's cattle and some M2s, Tomicas, GLs and JLs.
If I came across this thread by way of dialing '1:64 Diecast Models' then I surely would be more than pleased - because the range of die-cast models that grace this thread, and with the superb photography that peeps (like Kakashi and AOS for instance) express, the thread is die-cast heaven.

But nothing to a bona-fide Hot Wheels collector. A HW is not 'junk' because of build. Build doesn't come into it.

As well, when Hot Wheels is continually being bashed in the thread, then to call it a Hot Wheels and Matchbox 'Collectors' thread is an insult to such collectors.

I have worked actively in this thread since it was hardly 2000 posts full - and joining it at a time when it would be on page 2 or even 3 sometimes. The fact that it is not only on the front page all the time now but at the top of the page speaks for the many new 'collectors' that joined. The TS knows this.
I also called for a die-cast customisation thread which initiated it, as well made a die-cast diorama thread - all these connected to the die-cast collector's hobby.
Every car in here (other than non-scale models) can easily be posted in the Scale Model thread.
It is, however, nice to have a scale model thread that deals in small scale models - Kyosho, Tomica, AUTOart, Greenlights, M2, Jada, Maisto, Bburago, Moto Max, Kinsmart, Welly, Johnny Lightning, True Scale Miniatures . . . the list is long.
And none of them really compete with Hot Wheels or even is in the same league when it comes to production or collectibility.
Mattel has made HWs in the billions.

There was some talk a few months ago about changing the title of the thread to reflect that it embraces all brands of die-cast model. I would recommend going with that suggestion - it may even make the 'discussion' more popular.

As for Hot Wheels collectors - they are another breed. They collect junk - but as everyone knows - one man's junk is another man's treasure.
So we - and that means me, too - need a space for ourselves, where we can talk about our junk - and only about our junk.

Meanwhile - I will continue to be active in this thread but not about my Hot Wheel movies, and how tasty my HW candy canes are, or awesome the youtube video on the 1996 foot fat track was - but about my scale model die-cast collection.

I don't want to go back into this thread and dig out quotes - but let me say the following:

I'm sorry, but I am arguably the biggest Hot Wheels collector in this thread now that @diabolicwyvern has left, and it would get absolutely boring in two days because what gets posted here Hot Wheels-related isn't nearly as interesting. And here's why: there is not a strong Hot Wheels collecting community in here, the people that post here collect cars, not Hot Wheels. That means they most often don't go looking for Hot Wheels cars, they go looking for cars Hot Wheels has happened to do, which is a big, big difference if you think about it.

They won't refer to the Hare Splitter as the Hare Splitter and look for the several variations there is of the casting, they will refer to it as a VW Golf MKI. They won't know in which year HW went from Spectraflame to enamel to tampos, they won't know which countrys had local-market HW production, they don't collect Drag Buses. And that's because they don't care about it, they care about the cars. And that is totally, absolutely fine.

Want to talk just Hot Wheels? Sorry, this is absolutely not the place to do it, it would become boredom in two seconds because the community here isn't into Hot Wheels per sé, but into cars. There was only one guy here who was a real, true Hot Wheels collector, and that was Wyvern, everyone else don't even come close to. They're car guys, not HW guys. And I'm not saying the Panda isn't a car guy, nor me, but we're both way more submerged into the brand's history and, er... mistique, for calling it something, than the rest of the people in this thread combined. And again, I mean this not in a derogatory way to anyone.

A valuable member already left the thread because of the complains about not being Hot Wheels-centric, thus rendering it half-interesting from one day to the other. And sorry, but I have not seen anyone else complaining about TLVs and other high-end stuff being posted here than you. And it's not that you don't like them or appreciate them, I know you do. I truly, truly can't fathom why you can't just, I don't know, live with it or something.

Very true indeed. Thing is though, whenever iv'e been searching for small scale cars on e-bay or just the internet in general, i know for a fact if i type in '1/64 scale', it's going to bring me results that are roughly around that scale. Only on very few occasions has it ever thrown up a 1/43 scale, (with the exception of if i'm looking for a particular car, and it just doesn't exist in 1/64 scale).

So i'm with R1600 on that. It really would be better/more appropriate if it was called the '1/64 scale model collectors thread'.

I post mainly hot wheels, but I'm a fan of cars in general. I personally don't have the money to dump into TLV or other such things, despite the fact I love them. But I love cars more. So I will take anything I can get. Even micro machines.

Same here. I do buy the occasional TLV and such but i can rarely justify dumping a whole lot of money on them, and that's the same reason my HW's collection is around the 300 mark.. It would be higher if the HW's i wanted were more available in my country. Don't get me wrong, HW's are the main brand over here, but i'm very choosy when it comes what HW's i'd like to add to my HW's collection. And i'm sure if you were to ask a lot of UK based HW's collectors, they'd probably tell you the same.

I just don't post HW/MB anymore because I collect so few castings now, it's a long time between their releases. Just picked up the new Circle Trucker, still looking for the new BMW 1M and the Tesla Model S. (both of which have already been seen in here anyway) Everything else I pick up is for customs or wheel swaps that I never get around to working on anymore.
