Are Derailed monster truck for real(life)? Thanks for the info on the ZAMAC by the way guys. 👍
I don't think it is. According to the Hotwheels Wiki its a design truck contest winner. Hopefully if its not real someone will build one soon. I do remember seeing a Monster Truck built to look like a train in Melbourne Australia in the early 90's called Oriental Express, I think, but I cant find any pics of it.

Pictures! (only 1 $uper shown since I gave the other one to my Dad)

All large wheel vari/error:

10SP transitional error: (these have been found with all 10SP)

And a possible color variation or separate release of the 370Z that slipped right under our noses? Base codes are far enough apart that I think it's a separate release.

That Scion is clearly an error, dude.

Note there's no "this car is rare" text on the TH cards now.

Lastly, try to see if you can find other people if they have a similar case with the 370Z. I thought my dark blue M3 was an error, but I found several other ones on the web so I'm more inclined to say it could've been a variation. This seems similar to the pink tampo purple Porsche 911 GT1s I recently dealt with. Turns out I have a white and a pink WSP variation of said car and I didn't even know!

More than one of those ALW Scions have been found, so I ask you: Where does error end, and variation begin? ;)

There never was "this car is rare" text on the $uper cards. The Leeway TH I have does in fact have the text behind the car.

On the 370Z, the base code on the darker, deeper colored one is E24. The base code on the lighter one is F03. That is a HUGE separation in production dates. I think it's a separate release and most of us just didn't give it any thought since it's close in color to the other one.

Why would they make a variation that contained differently sized wheels? Errors aren't guaranteed to be 1-in-the-entire-world. They look like they don't even roll. Doesn't it just seem preposterous to call that a variation?

Suppose some dimwit with poor eyesight at the factory got temporarily moved in to work on the multi-packs. He honestly could not distinguish between size 1 and 2 PR5s until the dude next to him caught their mistake after the 10th one slipped passed and only then started using the correct size wheels. It's not an impossible situation. Based on my experience of being involved with factory procedure, errors made are often times human error than anything. It just seems off that Mattel would install other-sized wheels and call it a variation.

Suppose it was large wheels in the front and small in the back.. and about 54 - not 2 or 3 - of these have been reportedly found in multi-packs all across the world. Would you still call that a variation?

No reason to get feisty with me, I don't make up the rules. You still didn't answer my question.

I'm laying down my understanding of what separates an error from a variation to seek a common ground with you. I have no desire to dictate anything. I would like to test that Scion with I've come to believe is the definition of an error and variation based solely on experience and understanding of the term at hand, and that's what I've done with that response.

Those questions I proposed would be the response to your question. Rather, I've skipped ahead and applied it in the form of example scenarios.

I myself don't have a definitive answer since none of this I'm saying is decided as fact; shoot, I don't make up the rules either! This stuff is mutual agreement at the end of the day, and the one method I've learned to gain consistent ground regarding subjective considerations such as this is to decide through elimination what a variation can't or shouldn't be rather than suggesting what it can or should be.

The world of GTplanet Hotwheels collecting suddenly heats up

This thread should also come with a health warning- I've been looking at Kyosho 1:64s and some hard-to-find-here Hotwheels; watching a Kyosho Huayra and waiting to swipe it at the last minute.

If anyone here gets it I will use your shoes as a toilet. I am not joking

Meh, I put the "/" in there as an 'either or' so I'm covered either way. I'm not officially saying it's one or the other.

I'm not trying to put pressure on you. I'm trying to entice you coming up with your own set of rules on clearing up the gray area between the two categories. I think it is worth addressing at least to clear up "i dunno/i'm unsure" moments, wouldn't you say?

ALW Scion is clearly a vari. Most variations are not done on purpose. Most wheel variations occur because the supply of wheels runs out and another is used until a fresh supply is brought over from the other side of the factory. Or some are accidentally mixed in with the standard wheel.

Any if these things could have happened with the Scion. Mattel did not intend to do it, but it happened. The telling sign is that they have only been found in 3-packs. If you define these only on Mattel's intentions, than 99% of all variations are actually errors.

That makes more sense. The fact the wheels aren't the same as originally intended push the envelope for me.

If suddenly all Mattel had left were those tiny go-kart wheels to install in the Scion, you would consider that a variation despite how off it looks?

@AOS- do you know what the Canada Post policy is for damaged packages? I sent a car to a guy and he received it with the blister pack crunched (I packed it well) and he's a bit upset. Insurance was not requested (I do not offer it unless you ask) so I'm thinking he's out of luck on this one.

Yep. Some like to see multiples of the error/vari, but my personal rule is if all four wheels are the same, it is a vari.

Also edit (49mins later): I think it's safe to say this one is a staples in all of our collections, so please go out of your way to get one:

Agreed. I did pick that one up a week or so ago. It's awesome.

Can't see any of these. Photobucket took your pics away.

Yeah, just now aware of that. I deleted hundreds of photos but they won't give me more bandwidth until my account resets. From what I gather that might be the 2nd of February since I signed up 08/02/09 but who knows. Need to migrate everything over to flickr and their fantastic 1TB of free space...

Just one more reason to get away from slow photocrapet.

A big gripe with CM's is that they have antennaes which can be a pain to install, but the biggest of them all is that they don't come with a display case to safety secure these things from the off-chance of warping the antennae through some unthinkable event where something falls on it or when it falls on something up-side down.
This is so true. I have moved my CM's to those thread organizer/jammer cases, but I have them wrapped up like mummy, even without the antennas installed. I have JGTC Muscle Machines I've bought from Jason, which has fixed antennas. Thankfully, they came with specially formed blisters that I cut up to surround the cars inside the storage compartments.

At first I was like "I don't get it"...... then I realized what this was about and I was like "that Andy, what 🤬".

j/k

We are onto something. I'm not a monster truck fan, but any train-bodied monster truck would be EPIC!
Is it me or are C7 corvettes hard to find? I can't find any since they've been released.
They are rarer, if not downright rare. I don't see many of those.
Money in the 🤬 bank. Great selection on the color, and I hope they stick with those wheels. I gotta give it to Hot Wheels, this is back-to-back win for them!

He isn't really actually upset, is he? If he didn't ask for insurance, and if the item was packed well, go get upset at postal service(US or Canada, who knows.).

No good error-glitching-impossible website. More & more I get frustrated with them.

Nah, he just gave me positive feedback. I told him to ask Canada post if there was anything they could do and he said he didn't want to go through the hassle. Once it leaves my hands, it's out of my hands. Told that to a guy in some random foreign country the other day when he asked if I would ship there. Told him that I'll ship anywhere, but once it leaves my hands it's not my problem if it's lost/stolen/damaged.

Be careful with that. My understanding is that once the buyer file complaint with eBay/PayPal, they will side with the buyer, regardless of what your disclaimer may state in the auction.

Yuppers.

So I just had unofficial confirmation that the lighter orange-ish copper colored 370Z is actually a separate release. Why mattel would do back to back releases with nearly identical colors is beyond me.

Also, just noticed on the 3-packs that they are made in Malaysia and "Imported by Mattel Canada Inc, Mississauga, Ontario L5R 3W2". Isn't that your neck of the woods Mr @AOS- ?

Edit: this new GTP has a habit of trying to load a new post, failing, and then double posting when you hit the Reply button a second time.

That's Mattel's head office and yup, it's just northwest of my location. We get a lot of cruddy cars though.

So I made the quota. The index main page is done and all casting links are now open for public browsing: http://athobbies.blogspot.ca/2014/01/diecasts.html

Now I'm working on touching up the Series page to make it even more scroll friendly and creating even more accessibility between it and the index.

The big 4 buttons are now a placeholder for a more fun idea.

I think the real life car is lame, but as a Greenlight minicar, it's somehow neat..... and you gotta appreciate Kakashi's photography. :D:tup:
