Do some of you actually think that the increased frequency of the occasional black screen overshadows the gameplay improvements, fixes and new cars? I agree that stability issues are annoying but let's at least appreciate the bright side of this update.
Blame your broadband connection, not the update/game.
I'm going to preface this by saying that I haven't gone online since I updated, haven't driven on Deep Forest so haven't seen whether the new penalty area is bad; and find 2.08 to be one of the best patches the game has ever had in terms of my experience.

But if it brought back those nasty network problems, than none of the reasons that I like the patch have to make any difference to someone who plays online all the time; and it is absolutely PD's place to take the blame for it since GT5's servers were never very good and when an update makes them worse it's not the fault of the people playing it.

The only way you could believe that the blackscreen problems are because of bad connections, you`d have to think that everyone did something to their system/connections, the day before the update and just don`t want to admit it.
Now that`s crazy.

So, the boat I was in sank in the middle of the Atlantic ocean but on the bright side I have a life vest.

Take off your rose colored glasses and see things for what they are. You can polish a turd but in the end it is still a turd. Every update that comes out brings more problems with it. This latest update is more of the same thing.

Remember last December when we had the month of black screens? Well guess what, they are back and from the sounds of it it is much worse than before. Why does this happen twice in one year? Only one company is to blame.

Also, some of you need to quit apologizing for PD. Make them take responsibility for their own product. If they are getting negative feedback then perhaps there is a good reason for it. Maybe they need to work a little harder and focus more on fixing bugs instead of adding more bugs. At this point GT Academy seems more of a priority than GT5 or GT6.

This update also contained a bug fix for the $5 Motegi DLC. A simple fix that they made us wait 3 months for. A bug that keeps occurring over and over again. You need to ask yourself why does this keep happening. I know why and that is why PD will not get another dime from me until they make things right with GT5. If a company won't make things right for its customers then I choose to vote my displeasure with my wallet.

P.S. Nielsen, I'm not just singling you out. I'm just a little frustrated with people ramming rosey, bright and happy thoughts down our throats. Clearly there are many unhappy folks and rightfully so. Looking on the bright side of things all the time isn't going to cause change. However if enough people voice their displeasure then maybe change will happen.

There are two types of people in this world. People who see the glass half empty and those that see it half full. There is enough room for both types in the world and in every forum. It is called balance.

I agree that we shouldn't appreciate whatever PD does if there is no actual improvement. However, I have not encountered the said problems to an extent which makes me dislike this update, for me it has done more good than harm. I like the new tyre simulation, I like the new cars but I have had the black screen a couple of times. For me the good certainly outweighs the bad. For that reason I want to give PD some credit, it's just too bad that new patches often bring new problems with them and PD needs to improve quality control. Nonetheless, they usually do release a small patch which fixes the problems caused by the previous large patch. The Motegi payout bug was an exception but let's wait and see.

I steward a league on Saturday nights and last Saturday out of 10 drivers we had 6 get disconnected. I have been in this league for awhile. Normally we have maybe 1 disconnect per evening or so. That is not because 6 drivers had bad connection, that is the servers or something on sony or PD'S side of things. So for me this update is not good at all.👎:grumpy:

The update is very good in terms of improvements... tires, small physics changes, and now we are able to paint 3 cars that weren't possible before. That's cool.

But those black screens and connection problems are freaking insane.

Now possible to select “Disable collisions” in the [Event Settings] of online races.

This is probably the worst request/update I have ever seen in a driving simulator. I mean really. I would have prefered a longer stop clock when running multiclass races so all can finish.

It's not that unusual a feature though. I don't care for it but there are people who seem to love it. At least PD had the good sense to make disabling collisions automatically disable slipstreaming as well, so one particularly ridiculous side effect is eliminated.

They should at least add an "all drivers may finish their current lap" setting to the finish clock. Not expecting them to of course.

2.08 update is a disaster , 10 - 15 online friends having the same problem , online issues , black screen , disconnected from the server , mpla mpla , keep up the good work PD

At least reading this post makes me know it is definitely PD and Sony that have the issues.

I only play online period. So any enhancements mean nothing to me if you can not have a good clean uninterrupted race.

So frustrating because I race with the same group of people and have never experienced near the level of black screen disconnects that happen now.

Please fix the real issues Sony/PD

I blackscreened today and had to "quit game" exit, which meant I lost five previous race credits and the settings on a car, luckily all the credits for parts I bought for that car weren`t removed from my account.
It`s getting to where I go out and save my game periodically to keep from losing too many credits.
PLZ don`t do a 2.09 update..

I must have this update as mine in b-spec when i press start race all the time the screen go's black for a few seconds and when it comes back to view i have clocked about 5 secs of the race bit of a pain if you want to try increase pace or overtake from the start. And once the screen went black and stayed black had to quit game and start again pain in the arris.
sort it out pd and while your at it stop this waiting for the cars list to go white before each race starts on b-spec its a tad boring and annoying and it gives my b-spec driver time to fill his pants and drive like he driving miss daisy.

Has anyone else noticed that the game has slowed down a bit, in menu loading and such? I don't know if it's just me or not, because it wasn't like this before the update :indiff: And the clutch, IMO, is really not different than before, I still miss nearly every shift (actually, even more so, I can barely get through a lap without missing a gear, it used to be just a whole race I'd maybe miss one or 2 shifts).

Not really but maybe a little when using the pre-race options.

The only thing I really like about this update though is the tire wear changes. Everything else is just horrible.

I've been having a lot of trouble online (black screens), and with my clutch. It seems like I can rev it in neutral, but when I slot it into first (g25) and push the gas I get zero movement or revs. It's like my gas pedal is broken, but it works fine in neutral. Even shifting/clutching as carefully, as carefully can.

I finally got a few laps in last night, but today it seems like it's just refusing to happen.

I will say that I like the idea of disabled collisions. No matter how careful I seem to be, I always seem to get punted into the weeds within the first three corners. A shame that I haven't yet been able to try this feature yet. 👎

I haven't tried this feature yet, but surely it would mean that those races would then be nothing more than glorified time trials?

I was hoping for a bigger change in the way the clutch would work.
But there is no difference.

The only thing that changed in my opinion was the tire wear.

We've been lucky enough to have full lobbys, often with guys queueing to get in, for nearly the last year (before 2.08)....

1 week after 2.08, we're now lucky to get half a lobby this week....

When I ask those who never turned up this week, but pre 2.08 always had - same response:

"....had enough (of problems with GT5)...."

After spending so many hours creating series / championships, then spending more time with the 'admin' involved in running them and having to be there as host, it gets ruined because still AFTER 2 YEARS Polyphony can't be bothered to thoroughly test their updates AND are woefully slow at recognising problems caused by updates and subsequently fixing them.

Kaz and Polyphony - you suck..

Bye bye GT5 - Hello Project CARS..

Utterly ridiculous how PD can't get it into their heads how important something as simple as being able to logon with your friends and race them online is.

Instead we've got museum cards, race suits, helmets and crap like that - but we've had 2 years of 'grief' trying to get everyone into same lobby and stay there for an evening's racing - complete and utter fail by PD & Sony...

GT5 online should've been the greatest video game ever, instead, it's probably the biggest dissappointment I've ever had in all PC / video gaming... EPIC FAIL.

You mad bro - yes, I certainly am.....extremely mad.

omg

am i really the only one who has that aweful sound bug?

since 2.08 it appears that the sounds are suddenly off and on again while drivin...
VERY IRRITATING!!!

no one else has this problem?

Perhaps there would have been more positive voters on the poll without the errors and the dincontented suite of detailed changes. :(

Me and my pal have been hosting series for a while now and yes we've had the odd dc but since update everyone seems to get dc'd all the time and it is really annoying, why do pd fix something that isn't broken????

It's getting beyond a joke now as it's near on immposible to get all our 14 drivers in the same race now, I used to really love this game but now it's just a headache 👎 pd!!

I don't complain new update...
So I just mention that I dont love it how this game freezes when try join\leave online lobby, can't connect server (last night had to change other user and after that I get connected )

And no nothing wrong in my connection 👍

I'm mostly disappointed with the clutch "adjustment"

This. From day 1, I've spent 100's of hours adapting to how the game represents a clutch & gearbox on the G27 - and now you just up and change it, PD? WTF? I am almost certain they messed something up. It's not me. Downshifting 3rd to 2nd is a nightmare (always slips) and do you heel toe? Well, forget it. I played for 30 min after the update and gave up...drove me mad

Rant over...

Hmm, not saying you're wrong here, but I've used my G27 since 2.08, and while upshifting is much worse, can't say I've noticed anything wrong with my downshifts.

Full gas, off gas, clutch in, Brake on, change gear, release clutch, off brake full gas. That's my rough picture sitting here with my wheel and pedals of what I do, at which point would there be an issue with 2nd gear from your experience?

EDIT: Not 100% sure, but I seriously think that the tire wear has been all over improved, if they've made them all last longer again, that must be an improvement imo.

Yea, what you've said about "fully depress the clutch, full off gas, shift, etc" is correct. It's what we've learned to do to make the game work (and not miss gears). I've had no issues shifting up. I always take my time and shift naturally. Obviously, if you shift like a maniac - it won't work.

I think the issue with the update is the "sweet spot" zone on the clutch. I have been heel / toe shifting for 2 years, but now that the "sweet spot" has changed, when I blip the throttle and pop the clutch on a downshift, it just stays "N". I missed the gear b/c you CAN'T have any discrepancy with the clutch / throttle timing. At this point, my breaking zone has passed, I get distracted doing the "clutch in / slam gear, clutch in / slam gear" routine that can be all too familiar with G wheels and this all ends with my car in a retaining wall. That's why I just stopped - I assume the only fix is to relearn how to play the game. B/c that's what it is, a game. Something that you learn to understand and get good at. And that's why I am so frustrated. Why change a mechanic 2 years into the mix. It's a joke.

It's a fair comparison. I like time trials a lot, and this adds a social/competitive aspect that ghost cars by yourself just don't have. Ghost cars tend to be "the best day you've ever had" rather than "the best racer on the track at that moment." Time trialing by yourself gets pretty lonely too.

I spend most of my time currently doing laps in "free run" rooms. But those kind of rooms tend to attract punters too.
