2-player battle

Anyway, 2player mode does have reply as you all know. What I want to know is, how do you set the 2 player reply to play fulls screen? Its seemd to be split?

Been waiting for confirmation of this for days, Full screen replays in 2p have always been GT's party piece, Car'nt think why they would exclude them.

Just praying its not true :nervous:

Well I cant figure it out. When you press select during a reply it pauses and there is some text at the bottom of the scree. Dunno if this has anything to do with extra options etc, but I cant find an option to play the reply 2 screen.

PD have done a great job with GT 4, no doubt, but they have missed so many little key features that replay spoils the game in some aspects.

Yeah I was kinda dissapointed with not being able to save the 2-player replay. It would have been cool if you could save it and then take photos of the two player race. I'm just hoping you can save replays from the network races.

"Select" is pause in usual replay mode (i.e. not photo drive nor replay theater).

Exactly like I was thinking, it would be awesome to have some action with a friend and save the replay to take photos of the action..

Well that and the fact that I could save the replay to rub it in after the event. The first two player race I had was a Dodge Charger vs Chevelle at Citta Di Arria, hillarity ensued and it would have made some good photos with cars almost getting stuck at some points where the track narrowed. But alas it was not to be.

To be honest I think it's hardware limitations.

Yeap, it's possible that it is a hardware limitation, like for example, if we do too much time for playing around in a track, the memory will not fit or something like that. What do you think?

Hardware Limitation? Strange, how come this has not been a problem before in GT3. I think that's bullcrap to be honest.

If they could do this 2 player garage race since the original GT on the PS1 and even back then you could watch full screen replays and save them. Then the fact they're not in GT4 it's either PD has lost the plot and it's a monumental mistake or they took it out intentionally to make more money by putting it back in GT4 Online.

Either way this means that it will never be in GT4 and we've lost out on a great experience or it will be in GT4 Online and we'll have another flaming wait for that now.:(

LAN mode is something I have not tried yet since I only know one person that owns GT4. I doubt that will have the features we want though.

Do you have any idea at all on what it takes to make a game? Reading the forums all i see is you slating PD for not including this or that and how it is a money making ploy. The game is obviously not the same as GT1 or even GT3. It stands to reason that with the advances they made they may have had to make sacrifices to certain things. So either learn how to make a game, make one and make it as big a success as GT or stop slating PD without knowing the facts

Ok then, PD hate you and they get their jollies by removing parts of the game that people enjoy! :dopey:

Hmm funny how most of you think the 2 player features will be included in GT Online. If that happens then it's got nothing to do with hardware limitatons. Then we'll see won't we? ;)

10 days with the game and DFP.

No 2-player garage, no 2P one-screen replay, no 2P photo mode, some graphical glitches (easy to forget), some inconsistencies in gameplay, sometimes annoyng and stupid point-system, pit-crew is not what we imagined but it is better then nothing, no team members on fences, no little guy with checkered flag on finish, no comprehensive database of records, no "New Record" option, no "top speed" for lap, no laptimes after race.

Still, it is the best GT game so far - and overall, probably the best racing game ever made.

GT4. The Masterpiece. One who miss it, will never know what he has missed.

Thanks amar212 for your honest conformation.

I'm gutted, I was speaking with a fellow GT fan at work today about the lack of garage cars in 2 player/LAN/Replay Save mode and it's like someone sucked the wind out of him. Pretty depressing stuff. No game is perfect and yes GT4 is a masterpiece. BUT For me it's the Achilles's Heel. If I can get those options from Forza Motorsport/Entusia I'll go with them instead. Maybe GT Online will have those features, hope hope.

i've read all the menus/manual (japanese version) and i can't find the one to load garage cars. thats just too bad.

👍
- great graphics
- physics system
- brake dive/accel squat
- uneven pavement on the courses (especially noticeable on Nurburgring :) )
- wheel of the day section - you can buy OEM wheels from other manufacturers (i put OEM USDM ITR wheels on my EF9 CRX! i know that doesn't mean anything to most of you, but it looks great to Honda fans (even though you can also get 5lugged TE37s for example))

👎
- backfires too much
- cars peel out too much from a standing start and painfully slow 1st to 2nd shifts in most cars (much like GTs of the yore)
- rolling start on certain tracks
- stupid AI; real racers realize that someone is about to pass and they're forced to make room for you. whereas the AI just continues on their path and doesn't look over when you pass and just hits you.
- stock cars sound relatively realistic, but the realism goes down the drain once you install intake/exhaust. for example my '69 Camaro SS 350 sounds very high pitched much like an OHC motor.
- can't pull full-lock drifts (like REAL drifting's supposed to be, not just sliding) because the car pulls back too much once you countersteer
- no 2 player memory card battle (as confirmed by everyone). my friends and i enjoyed having "tuner battles" very much. for example, everyone is alotted $30,000 for mods towards an A class car. then we'd have different events like 1/4mile, different circuits, top speed. 1st place in the event is awarded 5 points, 2nd place 4 points and so ons.
- it is obvious that they carried over the graphic models (EK9 Civic Type R, DC5 Integra Type R, Merc CL600 etc etc) from GT3:Aspec/and various GT3 Autosalon versions. it is very easy to see that cars that are modeled specifically for GT4 (E46 M3 for example) are much more detailed compared to ones previously mentioned.
- lack of disctinction between parts from different tuners. for example, HKS dampers are no different from Spoon dampers. even something visible like exhaust makes no difference looks/power wise. its obvious these (albeit reputable) companies just bribed their way into GT4.
- even though they are a couple of new additions in the wheels section, most of them are just carry-over models from GT3; they're completely "flat" in-game (in the replays also) with no dicernible differences in offset. BNR34s typically run ~+20 offset wheels yet they're completely flat. i was psyched to see the addition of Volk CE28Ns but very disappointed to see that they're flat in the game. on the flip side, the Volk GT-C's lip is too big.
- 12,000rpm redline in the Spoon EK9 is just BS.

thats all i can think of right now. all in all its a great game :) despite many quirks/mistakes/shortcomings, it is definitely the best racing simulation yet 👍

p.s: sorry about the long writeup

not sure if they got backfires wrong at all, even a stock 1.8 turbo jetta will backfire, i think you don't see most cars that will backfire do it in real life because they are not being driven to the limit, most cars you see on the road are being driven at very conservative speeds.

the Spoon EK9 does rev up to 12000 RPM

hehe, thats what i want to think too :p assuming there is such thing as "THE" Spoon EK9, i bet it'll only do 9,500rpm tops (maybe a couple of rips to 10k but i wouldn't). ok, lets say you purchase the complete Spoon stroker 1.8L B16B from Spoon, the limiting factor is the valvetrain (thats before the motor decides to throw a bearing). Spoon valvesprings are basically balanced OEM Honda B18C-R/B16B springs, which means it is not recommended to rev past 9,200rpm. on top of that, why would you want to rev it to 12k anyway? Spoon cams stop making power after 8,200rpm or so, because it is designed as a drop in cam (unlike Jun IIIs which love high C.R and revs, but even those die after 9,200rpm)

:)

edit: but then again the Spoon EK9 revved to 16,000rpm in GT3 IIRC :p

The flames are totaly unrealistic, no way a standard car is going to A. get hot enough in the ehxaust or B. have enough spare fuel in the exhaust to ignite anything and C. send a flame past the catalytic converter and two muffers, just not going to happen not matter how you drive, That's just too need for speedy for me. The two player battle is totally ruined and it used to be a large part of my fun : (, unless I just haven't found out how yet but seems like you can't even save the replay let along see both cars on the replays full screen or choose your own cars. The rest of the game is so mind blowing good that I'm going to forgive and forget about 2 player for the moment, I can only hope the online version will include a non online 2 player mode that is fixed!: ). Apart from that small hope, I'll sit back and wait for GT5, no way with all this complaining they will make that mistake again.

Fuko, Not all is lost, we still have GT3 and Concept and their proper 2 player modes : ), For me I would still be able to play 2 player mode on GT4 if it still had the replay, because I would still be having fun racing 2 different standard cars but without the replay no, can't do it : (

Hm.. maybe the AI just doesnt want to lose, they are desperate for points. :) Or they've got a little gan san in them.

DO the cars really backfire too much?? I've noticed lots of cars in REAL life i've seen that have had an over 40% increase in power backfire a bit, and if the power is doubled, they tend to backfire a lot when lifting off weither to just slow down or the milisecond when shifting sometimes.

2 Player garage Battle isn't useless, neither is full screen 2 player replays... aswell as no saving.

They are all quite important for the longevity of the game.

I've got a whole memory card dedicated for GT3, and I can tell you there's an absolute ****load of 2P replays on it, and it's just awesome being able to relive memorable races. Since finishing GT3 100% so long ago, pretty much the ONLY thing that has kept me playing GT3 till this day! Has been the 2 Player Garage battles. Because there's nothing like building up cars and tuning them (to a limit and sometimes none) and also anticipating what your mates are building up and then coming together and racing them - and then watching the replays... numerous times it's been the only game played for hours and hours doing that. Not just that - but what's as good, if not better than full on racing, is 2 player drift battles. Unbeleivable, it's especially good when you set a limit on car to do up, then you do the cars up mildly, and set them up for drift, and then drift it out and try and stay as close as possible so the full screen replay shows both cars drifting only cm's away from each other, the main cars used have been "Skyline R32 GTST, Silvia (S13, 14, 15) RX7 (FC, FD), Supra" and the usual Japanese RWD Drft cars...

That has kept GT3 going since completing it single player... for this to be missing... is massive... I don't know how anyone could call these features "useless" they must've obviously never enjoyed this aspect of the game??

Yeah I thought GT3 would be "out the window" once GT4 came out, especially since the enormous amount of cars would be in it + tracks. But looks like GT3 will still be heavily used.

Also what's this Forza game? I hear it is meant to be quite good...? Links?

Forza Motorsport, on XBOX, has a lot of potential and on paper it's already better than GT4. But only future will tell and until Forza is released or more details emerge all we can do is wait.

The only way I'm going to buy Forza over GT4 is if Forza has 2 player/online garage races and saveable replays.
