 what is going on with this champioonship can't anyone take makinenen from the top i was really pissed when i saw the final standings, since the begining of this championship and he is up there, i am afraid histiory will repeat itself when tommi won the championship from his room, while sainz lost it on 500 meters, that was unfair.
Tommi is a great driver and all but it is time for others to show up, sainz is my favorite driver, this guy got the charisma and style it is a shame he is being put down by team orders:confused:
   long live rally racing. :D :D :D

I loved Rally Racing mostly in the 80s when the 959 rally car was tearing up the comp

Well no but i also think that the FIA wouldnt allow the 959 in the World Rally Championship and if they did it would have whooped butt!

Didnt Burns just win the last race??

Nope, Panizzi won it. Just like he will probably win the next round as well...

Bit of a tarmac shredder Mr Panizzi! He won't figure in the final rankings. Burns crashed out on the very first stage. Looked a nasty accident, and Richard Burns looked pretty shaken by it. I watched the in-car footage of it last night and it was really weird. The car just pitched off of the road on what appeared to be a relatively straight stretch. God knows what that was all about. STill he was unhurt. McRae never scored a point and the new Evo 7 let Makkinen down badly....

So its all still to play for!!!

I post the pics of Rally GB when I get back. I also include one of McRae collecting the World Championship!

The 959 was homologated under the old Group B rules (the F40 was also built with an eye to these rules, but the old 288 (I think) was built to meet them) which the old Audi Quattro, the Ford RS200, Lancia Delta S4 and other insanities were also built for).

Porsche were running a couple of years behind everyone with the car and eventually decided not to rally it in the WRC, but the really blow came when the cars were banned after two incidents in '86 - 3 spectators were killed at the Portugese Rally, and then in May Henri Toivonen and his co-driver Sergio Cresto were killed driving a Lancia Delta S4. Just about everyone pulled out of Group B straightaway, and the category was immediately banned for '87.

Bit of motorsport history for you.

I am only 20 so I missed out on all the Group B fun, but having seen the Group B Car Club at various shows I have been too I got very interested in them. I can recommend a great video to you on the history of Group B, it's called too fast to RACE: the full story of the 'Group B' racing and rallying 'supercars' and it has some amazing footage of some amazing cars, for example the Ford RS200, Lancia 037 Rally, Lancia S4, MG Metro 6R4, Peugeot 205 T16, Audi Quattro, Citroen BX4, Renault 5 Turbo and some of the race Group B cars as well, like the Ferrari 288GTO Evoluzione and the Jaguar XJ220, as well as the awesome Porsche 959. One part of the video is Walter Rorhl in the Audi S1 on a stage at full race speed, with both shots looking ahead (geez they move fast!) and his feet on the pedals (geez they move fast  )

It's by Duke Video (who else :p ) and runs for 65 minutes. The catalogue code is DM 3265 for those who fancy taking a look at it.
