The World Motor Sport Council met in Paris on July 5, 2006. The following decisions were taken
WORLD RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP
As a cost saving measure, a limit on the number of engines, with a single specification per year, will be introduced from 1 January 2007. The number of engines, with detailed regulations, will be proposed at the next World Council meeting.
Applicable from 1 January 2007, the existing Super Rally rules will be replaced by a system of bonus points applied for each leg of a rally (1st = 3 points, 2nd = 2 points and 3rd = 1 point), to ensure the final classification applies only to competitors who complete the entire route. Detailed regulations will be proposed at the next World Council meeting.
From 1 January 2007, Priority 1 drivers can only test for the manufacturer for which they are designated and, as part of a long-term objective, the number of test days will be reduced by means of technical measures.
Remote servicing, under restricted conditions, will be permitted from 1 January 2007. Detailed regulations will be proposed at the next World Council meeting.
Drivers of Super 2000 cars taking part in the FIA Production Car World Rally Championship can score points for the Championship classification, as of 1 January 2007. Detailed regulations will be proposed at the next World Council meeting.
From the beginning of the 2008 season, all World Rally Car entrants will use tyres from a single supplier. Run-flat 'foam' will not be permitted. Tenders will be invited from tyre companies.
The introduction of Biofuel, at the earliest opportunity, is being studied by the FIA Technical Department.
From 1 January 2007, it will be forbidden for competition cars running on less than four wheels to be driven on liaison sections. Detailed regulations will be proposed at the next World Council meeting.
The World Motor Sport Council approved the 2007 FIA World Rally Championship calendar, which will continue to run to the existing January-December format.

The FIA Junior and Production Car World Rally Championship rounds will be proposed at the next World Council meeting.
Those are some interesting changes, and the new points system can turn the entire thing round. And so can the new tire-rules. A puncture is not uncommon, so why cut out the foam? Sure, the remote-servicing might help this aspect, but I still don't like it, since only cars with four wheels intact are allowed to drive to the next stage. Guess I'll have to wait and see.

Having only one tire-supplier is a good change, though. I'm tired of seeing P. Solberg far out in the back because of the tires.👍

And I do like the way February looks. Two snow rallies, in row, both just two hours away from here.👍:D

How strange... I tought the 2007 season would be only from January to June, the changing the seasons in a format that runs all the year except June and July. :odd:

Well, some of those proposed rules are going to be a problem. It's not uncommon to see cars running on 3 wheels. A less frequent service area could do the job. 💡
And biofuel looks interesting in theory, in practice it's something else.
A single tyre supplier could even the field (agreed), but the exclusion of the run-flat tech could cause many headaches around. Imagine Greece and Turkey without this thing!! :ouch:

it's wait to see.. anyone knows when "the next World Council meeting" will happen??

looks like cyprus, turkey, australia are out of the championship next year...:x

to be replaced by Norway, Portugal, and Ireland

WHAT THE HELL?!?!?!?!?!?

Bunch of mongrels, they are some of the best tracks.:ouch: :ouch: :ouch: True, Cyprus does cause alot of damage and money down the drain, but thats part of rally.

That's right!! Cyprus is nice, but I will miss Australia alot... damn!!
The australian rally is the most beautiful of all :ouch:

I never liked Turkey anyway, so that's no problem.
Cyprus and Australia, however, too bad. Two of the toughest rallies is now out. Bonus that Norway is included!

Looking forward to Ireland a lot, the Irish rallies I have seen on TV look brill!
