.....The SVT cobra R had a 5.4L SOHC Iron Blocked Aluminum headed N/A engine making 300HP
The Cobra R that I assume you talk of, from 2000, had a 5.4 DOHC engine, making close to 400hp, all motor. It was, as the '96 - '99 Cobra before it, using a DOHC version of the mod motor. This one, though, used a 5.4 block instead of the 4.6 had a higher compression, and a much better intake manifold and heads, to name a few things. Thus the big power jump. But, it was a DOHC motor, not SOHC, and made closer to 400hp (385 rated), not 300. It was, at the time, the fastest factory Mustang ever made. Then, with the release of the '03 Supercharged 4.6, it took the top spot.

must be missing something. What are you disagreeing with? It sounds like we are saying the same thing: Enjoy the HP wars now while it's going on, before it gets shut down again for awhile. I was born in 1971, so I wasn't driving when all the old muscle was on the streets. I used to wish I had been alive back then so I could have enjoyed those cars, but the performance of today's vehicles change all that fo rme. The old muscle can't touch this stuff we're putting out now.

what i mean is I'm not optimistic about how long this new version of "horsepower wars" will last...abd how long the last of the pony cars, literally, will be around after the next safety wars. what I was trying to say is, that the timing is EXACTLY like the OLD muscle car era...and I fear a repeat of EVERYTHING the same

also...you guy can drool at these all you like, but I'm not optimistic about it surviving if there's a new Safety wars.

Second there is no Current cobra, stopped production a couple of years back.
Or did you completely forget about this car?"
Do you mean AC Cobra or Mustang Cobra? Since you showed a pic Shelby's more modern take on an AC Cobra. AC Cobras are still being built by AC so I'd also assume Shelby are still buying them, assembling them and selling them in the US, I don't have much of an interest in the Mustang Cobra so I don't know if theyre still going or not.

It would look better with the 2 lights in the grille, but it doesn't look that bad. Certainly, not as bad as the V6 version.

i personally think the new mustang is one of the best looking mustangs ever made, i love the 2007 GT500 👍

Looks like they spent a whole 5 minutes on the styling 👎

But, 450hp is always going to kick ass 👍

I hope it looks better in black.

.....I hope it looks better in black.
Black with Silver LeMans stripes, sweeeeeeet. That would look great. I also am a little indifferent on the styling. I kinda like the aux lights up in the grill, looks kinda nice. But, the more I see this one with the aux lights below the headlights, its not bad. But yes, I agree, in Black with some silver stripes, it would be awesomely menacing looking.

Driftster, Lethalchem, what you guys are saying is basicaly what I was trying to say. But let me go on some more.

For starters, let me explain why I think this car will have at least 500 hp. Before the ford GT the top version of the 5.4 liter modular V8 was a naturaly asperated DOHC unit producing 385 hp. That engine could be found in both the SVT Cobra R, and the SVT Lightning, in identical tune.
The svt had a 5.4 liter sohc supercharged v8 rated at 380 hp.

The new SVT Lightning is getting the same supercharged version of the DOHC 5.4 liter in the Ford GT, that will produce at least 500 hp. So why not the new SVT Cobra?
There is no new svt lightning. Not yet anyway. And i haven't heard any plans for a new one.

Oh yeah, i forgot to say. If the Shelby cobra concept dosen't make production, It's 615 hp supercharged DOHC 6.3 liter V10 would be an excelent parting gift. Especialy nestled behind the passenger compartment of the next Ford GT. ENZO who?
The shelby cobra concept uses a 6.4 liter naturally aspirated v-10 making 605 hp. And its not gonna be produced cause it didn't recieve to many positive reviews. And no next Ford GT either. They Just revived that for it's centenial, which is why it want to produce the shelby after the GT's production run is over.

Well for one we don't know what the architecture of that engine will be. To what extent was the 5.4 in the Cobra modified, and to what extent will the engine in the GT500 be. It might be 450, it might be 550. But I doubt they'd make it more powerful than the Cobra, that just wouldn't make sense on Fords or shelby's part. The Shelby has always been their "fastest" car, why make a standard pony faster. And yeah it might be right up there with the Z06 in terms of power, but a vette will always outhandle a stang stock for stock. Not to mention, they wouldn't make a mustang just as fast as their GT either. making a stang faster than the Cobra/GT would just be really stupid buisness moves on Fords part.

why do you say that? The cobra R handled just as good as the (last gen) z06 and that was based on a platform that dated back to '79. The new mustang has a stiffer chassis and an improved suspension layout and could provide a much better base for a new cobra R to compete with the new z06. Im sure you've seen the Mustang GT-R concept.(next cobra R in disguise? Perhaps...)

I've been waiting all year to see that car and I must say it's been worth the wait. I think it looks wonderful and the engine numbers impress the hell out of me. I'm a Chevy guy through and through but this with this car and some of the other beatuys Ford has put out I might just have to break away from the Bowtie. I only wish I could afford one.
