It will be interesting to see what Hamilton can do form 13th. I'm not usually a big Alonso fan be it would be good to see him win tomorrow.

At Magny Cours, with the short pits and 70 laps, a three-stopper is a viable option, as well - especially behind the two Ferraris, who won't be slow enough to block him even on a late second stop (which isn't reasonable considering the time-gaps between Q2/Q3 on the two red ones).

Alonso/Trulli on row 2. Good times. Missed this qually, wonder what happened to Kubica? 1 second covers the grid? Good stuff! It's heartening to know Alonso's performance wasn't entirely due to being light... Hamilton P13, things are looking good for tomorrow. I know everyone is hoping Fernando graces us with his first podium visit this season, he's really hauled himself forward on the grid since the beginning of the season. Incredible! Other teams must envy that kind of progress... For the first time I wonder what Trulli could do in a better car... Enjoy the Grand Prix, gents. P.S.- Magny looks better than ever!

Heikki lucked out again then..

Heikki Kovalainen has been handed a five-place grid penalty at the French Grand Prix for blocking Mark Webber, the FIA has confirmed.

The McLaren driver had qualified sixth fastest but will now move down the order because the stewards felt he had impeded Webber, who was on a fast lap.

A statement issued by the FIA said "the driver of car 23 was driving very slowly during an out lap and thereby hindered the driver of car 10 who was on his fast lap."

Kovalainen's penalty is a double blow to McLaren, who have seen their other driver Lewis Hamilton slip down to 13th on the grid because of the 10-place penalty he was handed after crashing in the pitlane in Canada.

Hamilton's penalty means that Kovalainen will start from 10th place on the grid.

They could have given it to Nakajima aswell, he did just as much damage..

McLaren are getting punished severely for everything today...

GPupdate
Kovalainen slightly blocked Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber

Understatement of the century. A lap that was 0.3s behind the fastest in the second sector doesn't turn into one 2.6s behind just like that.

The best way to decide if something is punishable is to consider if Force India would be punished for it.

Well, there go my race predictions. Anyhow, it will be interesting to see what Alonso can do in his position -- as well as Trulli. Shame for BMW after such a great result last week. Otherwise, Ferrari look to run away with it here.

Good luck, McLaren. :)

Coulthard - What a party pooper :grumpy:

This should be an interesting race. Very nice move from Kimi going into the pits:tup:

Did you guys see the Formula BMW recap? They were going so slow, it was hard to watch.

Ferrari to walk it, Hopefully Alonso stays up there.

Z, I dont understand your Hamilton quote in the signature.

my prediction:

webber, kubica or trulli. one of these 3 are making it to the podium. it'll stay a ferrari 1-2 unless one of the drivers wreck or there's some kind of pacecar fiasco

Z, I dont understand your Hamilton quote in the signature.

It's in reference to his mistake in Canada. He thinks there might be nothing to be learned from it, whereas I take the other side.

IMHO, the comment will prove itself over the course of the season. Bold statement, but I'm not afraid to put my foot in my mouth if I'm wrong about it.

Ah I see. In my opinion its just be more careful, yes hes bold , and yes I'm not a fan but I doubt he'l make a similar mistake again this season.

Perhaps not an incident in the pits, but there's the incident at Bahrain this season (hitting Alonso), the wet pit last year at China, racing his teammate unnecessarily at Brazil, etc. We'll see.. no point in discussing events that have yet to happen.

I'll go as far to say he'll DNF, his arrogance will cost him, again. Or at the least finish outside the points

I don't think he'll DNF more than likely he'll finish outside the points.

 That is so true. Remember that the FIA made that desicion. (FIA as in Ferrari International Assistance) ;)

As for the race, theres no one thats going to keep up with Ferrari now, with both BMWs and McLarens out of the equation. But also hope that both Kimi and Massa will battle it out against each other (and even take themselves out :dopey:) As for Alonso, just hope he could finish in the points and not retire. Its already a damaged limitation for him. Another one to watch is both of the Toyotas, with such a good performance in qualifying they should have the race pace as well. Just would like to see either drivers make it onto the podium...... 👍

Happened last year at the Nurburgring and Interlagos. At the 'Ring he started low on the grid due to his blowout in qualifying, and he didn't finish higher than ninth. He had trouble again at Interlagos and was demoted to the Best of the Rest for the duration of the race and couldn't get himself higher than seventh. And again at Bahrain this year; he hit Alonso and instead of knifing through the field, he finished 13th.

Hamilton is good when he's in control. But as soon as he's not in a position to flex his racing muscles, he's got nothing. And that's why I think he's s over-rated: he's always been in a compettive car, and his main rivals have had experience in dealing with the frustration of a bad season.

Could not agree more and why I posted what I did. Also, from what Ive gathered, all of the hype is primarily coming from the UK. Understandable really. The same happens here in Aus. except motorsport gets sweet bugger all attention, compared to other sports

What I dont like though is the amount the commentators carry on about Lewis, James Allen in particular who I reckon is the president of the Lewis Hamilton fanclub.

Hey most of us who have liked motorsport (and F1 iun particular) over the years are as unhappy with the over-hyping of Hamilton as the rest of the world.

James Allen in particular is not a popular person among UK F1 fans at all, witness the joy at the BBC getting F1 for TV broadcasts next year, which should see Allen out of a job and don't forget the T-Shirts and petition to stop him.

For me Hamilton is a potentially great driver who currently lacks experience, but has a bright future ahead of him. When considering him over-rated depends on who rating of him you listen to, if its the product on the British mainstream media (who know nothing about motorsport) and James Allen in particular, then I would agree with you. However by that very token every driver is overrated, as most suffer from the exact same problem when you look at them through the eyes of the home media.

Scaff

The problem with James Allen is:
Annoying voice
Endless references to Senna
Always telling people how last night he showered with Ralf Schumacher and other useless facts like how lewis's car took a shark bite out of alonso's and how lewis is scared of sharks.
Annoying yelps of GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO or LEWIS HAMILTON...................................................................... WIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINS. Starting the sentence when hes on the last corner so he has to wait and stratch the words out as long as possible.

Apart from that he's awesome.
