Kimi could have done better, but he did finish ahead of where he started unlike Massa who started 6th and finished 6th, even with a fresh engine put in after qualifying! With Kimi, Lewis and Alonso moving forwards, why couldn't Massa do the same with a new engine?

Don't even try to imply Kimi did a better job, he didn't. Massa had good pace throughout the race and made some nice passes during his first two stints and passed Webber on his third. He had some bad luck, giving back his place to Rosberg cost him a decent chunk of time and he emerged from both his pit stops behind long lines of cars. Kimi did nothing until he got onto the intermediates and by then it was way too late. Plus, it is much easier to move up from 14th than from 6th

It was a perfect weekend though, because liverpool beat man utd, and I was also with a freind who races LMP2s for Barazi Epsilon Zytek at silverstone today, and I passed my CBT.

I thought it was your job to drive the car, Peter?

Well, I at least I can say I joined the Vettel appreciation group before all of this :sly:
Vettel is the only driver outside of the top three teams to have won a Grand Prix so far this season....

:nervous: I feel really bad about Bourdais now, after seeing that interview from Spa where he was in tears, I can't imagine what he's like now...poor guy. Perhaps someone needs to tell him he has already proved himself as a capable F1 driver? Hope he gets the result to make him happy again, its a shame it couldn't have been a Toro Rosso 1-2, as it may well have been.
 
Another great GP, well deserved win for Vettel and a great entertaining drive from Hamilton to come through from 15th.

Fastest lap of the race for Kimi again, if only F1 gave points for fastest laps.:)

On a side note did anyone notice that Massa cut the chicane to gain the advantage of staying in front of Hamilton - nice to know the rules only work one way.

Just watching the highlights and I see what you mean P3nT4gR4m. Lap 40 and Lewis ends up about 4-5 car lengths behind. What would it have been if Massa had to back right off?

Kovalainen did a respectable job. He could have had first, but at least there were no major mistakes. Great job by Vettel, Kubica, Alonso and Hamilton. 👍

I don't even know what Raikonnen was doing. I know I called it before the race, but this is very disappointing. Did somebody not tell him that you don't get points for fast laps?
 
Congratulations Vettel!

It would have been interesting to see the results if the track had of dried out quicker. The Ferrari's were pretty terrible on the full wets, Massa passed one guy the whole day, but when the track dried out they were pretty pacy.

Hamilton's move on Webber was disgraceful, and the one on Glock wasn't much better.
 
The "move" on Glock wasn't a move, it was Glock's own damned fault for being overzealous and trying to go 2 abreast in a corner where it's not possible.

Give him a break, it's not ALWAYS his fault.
 
Well, I think I'll switch my allegieances from Camp Button to Camp Vettel. Not because Vettel has started winning and Button has stopped, but because Vettel is A) my age, or thereabouts and B) he's proven to be adept with a car that has a history of languishing.

Not to mentioned he was stuck behind the BMW after his 1st pit stop. :ouch: Anyways, I think it was sad to see the Ferrari team got outclassed by STR, but at least the fans still get what they get. :D Kimi is just unmotivated at times, and at other times he found his inspiration and drive with his body, mind and soul to its limits. The new contract was a mistake by Ferrari, they should have signed Vettel instead. Biggest mistake of the season......

As for Hamilton, I really thing someone needs to tell him to chill out. I think its good to see him drive at 11/10ths but his driving style is almost too aggressive at times and he could just very well blow it like he did last year. After that race I don't think much of the F1 paddock is going to be friends with him, likewise they would rather be with Vettel...... :lol:

Alex.: You need to do something better to show your appreciation for Vettel, why not you run around Silverstone with a big Sebastian Vettel banner or something, or drink Red Bull everyday to show your appreciation? Having a Vettel appreciation group is just not enough...... ;) Oh, and I'm not joining that group evar!!! I rather wait and see how Bruno performs when he enters F1. :sly:
 
I'm a huge Hamilton fan... and I cried bloody murder after Spa... but this...

It was a brilliant drive... straight from 15th to 2nd place... and if not for the problem with the rain stopping and Hammie being on the wrong tires (that's the breaks when you gamble on a one-stopper), he could have actually ruined Vettel's race.

BUT...

His behavior? Inexcusable. Against Glock... Hamilton had the line, and he had the right to defend it... but the move on Alonso... totally un-necessary, and dangerous... cutting so close to the guy just to kick spray up into his face... and on Weber... pushing him off track (as Kimi did to him last race... only worse).

That was the worst of all, and worthy of investigation... Weber had the outside line, and he was alongside... Lewis pushed him onto the grass...

Now defending your place is well and good, but risking a crash to do it? Ugh. :grumpy:

I was impressed with Vettel's pace at the end of last season... despite the rookie mistakes that made him the goat at the end of the 2007 season... and this year, the boy's on fire... he deserves a red car underneath him... for sure. 👍

But that's not "pushing people off the track". That's "fighting for the racing line with the end result being that the other driver is forced to move over". Which is Ron-speak for pushing people off the track.
 
Well, I considered Sebastian Vettel's fantastic week-end as a well needed breeze of fresh air over Formula One agitation...:)👍

As for LH, to make it very short, his for the least “incisive” driving this sunday will underline the fact that Race Steward’s investigations are inconsistent and quite subjective.
 
Hamilton's move on Glock was OK, as that wasn't really a move. Glock put his car in a space that wasn't there. However, his move back in front of Alonso was questionable, and his move cutting back in front of Webber and taking his braking area was downright dangerous.

The stewards made it perfectly clear, last week, that that's what you have to do in a corner to avoid the other guy being allowed to overtake you for a number of corners that will be specified at a later date.
 
Congratulations, Sebastian Vettel! I only wish I saw this historic race (darn cold).

This win in a Toro Rosso the first by an Italian team that wasn't Ferrari since 1957. That's right: Fifty-one years of A.T.S., Scuderia Centro Sud, Osella, Minardi, Merzario, Coloni, Alfa Romeo, and Euro Brun that amassed a total of two podiums and two pole positions in that time, while Scuderia Ferrari lapped up the rest of them for her country.

And who won that last race? Juan Manuel Fangio's drive of drives in the 1957 German Grand Prix in the Maserati 250F.
 
Well what a race and congrats to Vettel, it's nice to have a different winner for a change. Please don't give him a drive in a red car, he'll lose all sence of perspective and expect to win all the time.

I think that showed a lot of the Lewis doubters just how he can drive in the wet and race. Yes he was pushing hard but I'm guessing that after all the drivers in the paddock suddenly decided he was in the wrong in Spa and the penalty was deserved he probably didn't feel like being in the brotherhood. Strange how there was a complete turn around of opinon from one weekend to the next.

So 1 point in the championship and a race in the dark to come, a complete unknown to toss everything up in the air and see how it lands with possibly rain added to the mix. If this was a script of a film nobody would believe it, too unrealistic life is never like that.

I have to agree that this is now the fourth season of exciting, close, never knowing who is going to finish ahead of the race let alone win the championship racing and I love it. I had said for years 'take the traction control and other devices' out of the cars and let the supposed best drivers of the world show how they can drive and I'm glad that now they have started. Next season could be very interesting as it will possibly toss everything up in the air again and maybe some of the smaller teams will be on an even keel with the bigger names in Motorsport. So we could well be celebrating more wins by different drivers and possibly have a 4 or 5 drivers fighting for the championship instead of just the usual 2.

I wouldn't switch just yet, Button will be back next year I'm sure of it. He's a great driver and needs a decent package under him in order to prove his worth.

Vettel drove like most of us expect Kimi to,precise clean fast and mistake free.
L.H is gaining more and more momentum whether your on his side or not, fans are gonna love him for his raw speed, and the other side of the fence ,well he keeps racking up more people NOT giving him christmas cards.
Kimi may have won last years c,ship, but I really don't think the Ferrari suits him.Ferrari are game signing him up again, when Bourdais is possibly off contract,maybe STR will sign him again.
It was like a breath of fresh air anyway you want to look at it,for F1.
 
A very good race by Hamilton, the man was mad! Just odd that he settled when he got behind Massa. Kimi was just disappointing.

Also an awesome weekend to Vettel, very consistent drive. Well done!

He said afterwards that he'd used his tyres up.

Either that or he realised that passing Massa is a 10 second stop go penalty. :sly:
 
Surprisingly, no one talks about Kubica.

I think that - after Vettel - it was him who did the best job in this race. Better than Hamilton, because he gained as many places as Hamilton did (from grid to finish positions), but there's a difference between going up from 15th to 7th, and going from 11th to 3rd.

I'm no fan of any driver, but if I was, Kubica would probably be my choice. Given the car he drives, he drives it superbly. And, after many rounds in this championship, he is 3rd in the championship, 14 points behind the leader, and ahead of the current world champion (in a Ferrari).

I guess his low profile attitude has this efect. People don't even notice him much :indiff:

But that was down to fuel loaded to the brim, and luck that when he needed fuel, the track was dry enough for intermediates. If Hamilton could have went as long as Kubica did, he'd have won.

Kubica race here was no different than Piquet's race at Hockenheim. Lucky timing of the pit stop was the reason they both got podiums.
 
I have a feeling that Hamilton wasn't necessarily intending to win, just to beat Massa. He may have showed good sportsmanship and slowed down once he was in 2nd and let Vettel go on to take his first victory...Atleast I hope so.

I think you are forgetting two things:

1 - Kubica drives a Sauber BMW, not a McLaren Mercedes;
2 - IF Hamilton started with the same fuel load Kubica did, he would be in much more trouble to move up the field than he was.

Now, I'm not saying LH didn't a great job. He did. (in fact, I posted in this thread saying that him, Kubica and Alonso were, after Vettel, the greatest drivers in this event).

But I don't think Kubica did less than Hamilton (I think he did more, but I admit that's subjective and debatable). And that's why I wrote "Surprisingly, no one talks about Kubica"
