Vijay hasn't poured that much money into it - not far above the regular backmarker budget. Force India is hopeless from the start of the season anyway - the 2006 Midland only gets you so far - and their only hopes were beating Super Aguri. Next year, it's a clean sheet for everyone - that's everybody's shot, and Gascoyne has some skills when it comes to slippery cars.

Indeed, Im watching Honda for next season, Im hoping they can take advantage of this, Im fully expecting the Brawn-effect to happen again, although Im not sure Button has it to win the championship, I reckon they still have a chance to get back to being at least a best-of-the-rest team, depending on whether BMW-Sauber rise or fall.

We forget that all Brawn can do is guide the team - but he's in no way a genius aerodynamicist, engineer or designer...

BMW Sauber, meanwhile, don't seem like they'll fall anytime soon. Fact is, they have the best CFD complex in the sport, a set of state-of-the-art windtunnels - and collaborations with BMW engineers regarding KERS.

So is it possible Force India's just seeing out the year to get the "experience", rather than developing a car that will be completely obsolete (sans engine) the following year?

No, I dont forget that, I was just referring to the "Brawn-effect" of joining teams that later become championship-winning, but like I realised half way through that post, that was probably more attributed to Schumacher than anything else, hence why I say Button hasn't got what it takes.

Still, I expect some of the current backmarker teams to make a bit of turn around next year with such radical changes to the rules, theres some potential there anyway.

Correct, pretty much what Honda and I'd think eventually Williams are doing.

Honda were first to admit that - though Force India never had to, since it might have been their goal since the start. As for Williams, I doubt they'll be working on it any more than the regular teams - the whole team seems to believe the FW30 is such a marvel of engineering that "somehow doesn't suit this (or any other) track". :indiff:

:) so they built the perfect car but now they have to wait for the tracks to be perfected?

That's what it seems like from their comments. Everything is "I think we're doing well, but the track isn't suited to this car". Nico didn't make it into the top-10? "Ja, diese strecke passt nicht zu unserem auto": "Yes, this track doesn't suit our car"

Qualifing ended.
Hamilton 1st, Massa 2nd, Kovalainen 3rd, Trulli 4th, Alonso 5th, Raikkonen 6th, Kubica 7th.

First law of watching delayed broadcasts: Don't read F1 threads.

As for the session, that was some good stuff. Kimi did a few silly mistakes on both hotlaps that would probably cost him dearly tomorrow - Alonso and Trulli slotted in ahead of him, while Hamilton and Massa are on front row. Vettel was, again, amazing, Coulthard managed a pleasant surprise, and Rosberg is a whiner - should've seen his RTL interview, he was nearly crying about not making it into Q3.

lol i didnt relaize that speed was on a 5 min delay until i say the first part of the message of

qualifying ended
Hamilton 1st

then i was like darn oh well the last laps there where quite interesting. looks like the ferraris are running heavy this week to start out.

Well that was really unexpected. Ferrari did give a fight against McLaren, but Hamilton probably did his best and got 1st for McLaren. Heikki could have been on pole if he didn't run wide at the last corner. Trulli and Alonso did qualify well, but was surprised Kimi is all the way down in row 3. Must be running heavy on fuel.....

Anyways, lets hope it does rain during raceday..... ;)

What happened with Kimi? He started a hot lap just before the checkers came out and when everyone else was finishing their hot laps. Did he abort the run?

Yes. They mentioned he let up soon after he crossed the S/F line.

Congrats to Hamilton, but the most impressive qualifying performance for me was from both Trulli and Alonso, both of whom needed a faster lap at the end of Q1 with time already expired to just to get to Q2:

Then they did it again with each making an amazing last lap with time once again expired in Q3 to get into P4 and P5 respectively. 👍

It's weird how much the track shifts in width. It seems like some of the sections are 3 or 4 times wider than the thinner ones.

Because it's been re-built. The 'stadium' is all quite tight, the long sweeping left, up until you enter the stadium again is quite wide.

Yeah, D-N, I was surprised to see the two in the cutoff for Q1 so late in the session, and was close to giving up. And then they made it - I didn't believe it at first. What a performance.

Scary moment for Glock there. I've never seen a suspension give like that before. And he was doing so well.

did anyone find an ITV stream?
Unless it is legal, then don't post or discuss it here, please...

As for the incident, hopefully Glock is unhurt - I find it annoying, however, the outcome of an otherwise straightforward race can be potentially drastically changed by an event that shouldn't have any influence on the race result... it's not looking good for LH now, but that really shouldn't be the case.

Everything started to go well, but then ffs.. The T clock crash maded all to go pit, and AGAIN the ferrari made it wrong.. for the kimi i mean.. why they just didnt do like mclaren? One go to pit and other go little bit later.. the hole race goed totally..grm.. wrong.. lets see if something miracle still gonna happen.. otherwise this race goed just like last one

What a mess... although it's allowed Kimi to put on quite the F1 passing clinic these last few laps.

BTW: It's odd switching back and forth between F1, Tour de France, and British Open coverage... talk about the differences between sports. :)

Gah! ITV commentators suck!

Why is Massa being held up by a "heavy" Piquet? One stopping means Piquet was heavy at one point, but he's now got fuel to the finish exactly the same as Massa....

Gah! Again.

Bring on the Beeb.

Hamilton needs another 6 or 7 laps to be out in front of Massa, and if Massa passes Piquet well then Hamilton could need as much as 12 more laps. I know it is unfortunate for Hamilton to be put under this unforced pressure, but it does make a better race for us to watch.
BTW, I've very little sympathy for Alonso, I'd like to congratulate Vettel for ticking him off!
