Revealed today at the Detroit auto show, the 2008 Honda Accord Coupe Concept reveals a totally new look for the next-generation Accord.

"The Accord Coupe Concept demonstrates the styling direction for the upcoming, eighth-generation Accord," said John Mendel, senior vice president of American Honda. "As the industry's target for midsize segment excellence, the all-new Accord will set a new benchmark for safety, efficiency, performance, refinement and style."

The Accord is Honda's best-selling model in North America and its debut at NAIAS marks the first time that an Accord concept vehicle has ever been shown at a major auto show.

...Do I see a Japanese Mondeo before me? This has indeed been a strange day for Honda, especially when a car that looks as good as this manages to debut alongside the crap-tastic NSX "replacement." The looks of the car are very un-Honda at the moment, particularly in comparison to the American version of the Accord. The edges are clean, yet defined, and manages to look completely respectable all while maintaining a bit of attitude.

Certainly now, I love my American "bread-and-butter" sedans in this segment, but I've always been an Accord fan. The previous model is beyond excellent, and I am eager to see how Honda will manage to improve upon their winning formula.

I like it, it sort of looks a little Audi-ish. From the rear, it reminds me of the CL. They could have made it rear wheel drive and it would be a good competitor to the G35.

See Honda? When you use your balls, you get a great looking design. Please tell me thats coming here. :D

That is indeed the new American Accord, however I am uncertain what the future will hold for the European and Asian version (aka the Acura TSX in America).

Probably the best Japanese design since the ZZT-231 Celica, which doesn't count. So original, so sharp. So clean! Looks only slightly removed from a sports car. Doesn't look like it belongs in the segment it is in. 95% approval rating.

That is nice, very nice. A hell of a lot nicer than the current US Accord coupe imo.

Wow. I just came from the EvoX thread. I jumped when I say this car. I almost can't decide which has better looking metal! That car is really awesome. I hope what is under the hood is enough to make this very sporty. Amazing!

The front grille is childish, and the exhaust is under-developed, but otherwise a massive improvement on the current Accord. The overall line structure is much better, if cribbed from the Hyundai Tiburon (and they could have chosen a worse place to steal from, for sure).

Well, it's just a concept, so I shouldn't badger too much. The basic silhouette is nice. I like the window treatment. The greenhouse, decklid and flowy sides look good. I don't like the taillight design at all. It doesn't seem like it's design is related to the rest of the car at all. I like the headlights. I don't like how masculine the car looks. I think an Accord should be sort of feminine in it's design, because women are generally of higher quality than men, as the Accord is better than most of its competitors.

It's a'ight.

So a Hyundai Tibouron and a Scion TC have sex and we get a Honda product?

I also see Audi, along with BMW, Toyota, including Scion tC. There are just so many good and bad in this design, I don't know what to say. Sedan might end up looking nice(I haven't seen it), but I'd definitely pass on the coupe.

I love the current coupe. It's just so clean and smooth and cool. This one really does look like a big tC.

I'm seeing Audi and BMW in it, and I can see some current Civic there too. tC as well. I dunno what to say at this point, except its different?

Wow. This is...dare I say it...beautiful. THIS is a Honda I WOULD PAY MONEY FOR. Even if it was FWD I'd still buy it. The current V6 6spd coupe is a great car...and quite quick for its weight. Those headlights are just brilliant...and the exhaust is awsome as well. I do not see any faults in the exterior design...zero.

My approval rating (if FWD): 92%
My approval rating (if RWD/AWD): 99%

Wow. i like this allot. it'll be front drive for sure as most of the mid size competition in america (malibu/fusion/stratus) is still front drive as well. only the full size cars (impala/crown vic/charger) are going rear drive, and the accord has always been front drive.

I really hope they come out with a performance version of at least the accord coupe. lets see the civic Si has 200 hp, and the regular accord has 240... so maby a 260 - 280 hp Accord Si? borrow the V6 from the acura TL type S and give it a true six speed, ohh that'd be sweet.

The first thing I saw when the Accord came across the online interweb was the next Ford Mondeo...

...and that certainly isn't a bad car to attempt to look like. I think the only design element that bothered me on the car was the horizontal grille at the bottom of the face. If it were left open (as pictured), I think it would look a lot better...

See what I mean?

Even though that makes the front look more like a robot evoX? That wouldn't be a bad thing. The rear refinitly reminds me of the Hyundai Clix. Could be me.

I'll agree. I loved the 2003-type Accords, especially the coupe. This design seems more like the late 1990s Accords with the long grill and horizontally-wide lights. I don't hate this car. The rear end seems to be a bit too angular at the back. Kind of like a hatchback design that still manages to be a car with decent proportions. It's kind of like the [Chevy] Malibu Maxx a few years back. It's a little too aggressive up front around the fog lights. I still like most of the design. I'll present this design as 85% approval out of 100%. And by the way, this car looks a hell of a lot better than the Clix concept.

It's very odd that Honda's showcasing a coupe first. Not that I'm complaining, I really, really like this. It's a shame the Accord will most likely (I'm assuming) stay FWD, but then again, the Camry has an AWD option so maybe Honda will step up. Either way, what a nice design, and I hope they don't change a single thing for production. I like every detail 👍

Why does everyone think fwd is so bad. You can make an fwd handle really well and with regards to regular road use in a car like this it's probably better to have the extra space in the cabin.

Gran Turismo site for you, Dave. I also don't mind the FWD.

Same here, imo the Accord is better looking than the new TT which imo looks a lot better in pictures than in the metal.

Are you guys serious? :odd: Audi design looks so much better and cleaner to me. The new Accord though, it looks like one of those cars that I have to see it in person to see how they actually look in person.
