Where did Kubica get that? Was it recent? I dont remember hearing about anything like that.

Edit: Nevermind,
'After Formula Renault, Kubica moved to the Formula Three Euro Series. However, his move was delayed by a road accident which left him with a broken arm. At his delayed debut at Norisring, Kubica, driving with a plastic brace and 18 titanium bolts in his arm, won the race'

been right on Kimi's pace.

Raw pace has never been Massa’s problem. Typically he just makes too many mistakes (small ones) that make him slower over a race distance. As far as qualifying goes he’s had Kimi pretty much nailed since he joined Ferrari.

Wow, I'm impressed that both Hamilton and Kubica manage to keep their pace during both sessions! 👍 Renault seems to be struggling a lot in Montreal and I got a bad feeling that their weekend is gonna get worse. :indiff: Can't say much about the weather, and I really hope that it rains again. The last race was very interesting to watch, and this race should provide just as much action as the last race. :D

Renault are going to achieve nothing this weekend. Their terrible lack of top speed and traction are the worse that could happen to them in such a track.

Other than that, I gotta assist to class the exact same Sunday I'd love to stay at home: F1, the Spanish MotoGP and the fourth consecutive Roland Garros final Rafa Nadal gets to play (and hopefully win again). I'm trying to find a WAP live covering website where to follow the race on my Nokia N70, but no luck so far... :(

Kubica is looking good to continue the BMW's quest for their first win.

Seeing Alonso at the bottom of the time sheet doesn't surprise me, he's never been good here (despite winning in '06), and the incidents he had here last year, and today are proof.

I just realized that race will be on FOX. This should be interesting. Is Derek Daly in?

Regarding the Renaults: "I did not do much running this morning because we only have a limited amount of wet tyres and it made more sense to save them in case we need them later in the weekend," said Alonso. "And so we waited until the circuit was dry, which was only the last ten minutes."

And you can't expect more of Piquet..

Renault seriously needs to get rid of Piquet, and Toyota of Glock. There's plenty of guys out there who would do a better job that these two. Speed, Tonio, Davidson, Sato, just to name a few.

Ok, now please tell me thats your patriotic side coming through? I was a fan of Speed too, but seriously, just no.

No Davidson, either. He proved to be underwhelming in what was a by and large an underwhelming car. And there's stll that stigma of crashing a lot that lingers over Sato; sure, he made that pass on Alonso last year, but he got lucky with his strategy in there. I at least think Glock is better than those two; Piquet just needs confidence. As for Liuzzi and Speed, they had their chance ... and blew it.

there's no question that Sato is better than Glock. even with the big performance gap inbetween toyota F1 and super aguri, Sato finished in front of him in Malaysia and finished 2 spots behind Glock in Spain this year

Speed is committed to NASCAR (and blue toe nail polish), Tonio will probably replace Fisi at Force India before long, Davidson's racing days are probably numbered. The most likely replacement for Nelson would either be Sato or Robert Doornbos, who was recently hired by Renault to be a test driver. (through their sponsor, ING banking)

I just came back from my classes and... What? Alonso fourth in Q2!?

Didn't Renault suck in terms of top speed and traction!? :/

OMG, What a Lap by Lewis, i really thought Kubica had the pole but then......6 TENTHS!!!

Kubica - never to be down, He makes the BMW look like a great car. You dont believe me look at Heidfeld.

Raikonen - Beat Massa which was prob a goal for the session.

Massa - Just couldn't get T2 and T3 down.

Im still upset with Webber, he was supposed to do better than that.

Hamilton.

0.6. Six bloody tenths. That final corner - hell, the whole friggin' lap - were just beautiful. Respect.

Otherwise, excellent show, with the extra spice courtesy of Kubica, Alonso and Rosberg. Poor Webber - he was running exactly the same times as Alonso throughout Q1 and Q2, shame he couldn't run. Vettel and Bourdais as well...

Alonso was very fast throughout qualifying, and in the end were only 6km/h behind McLaren in the top-speed ranking - during Q2, that meant second-fastest of all teams. Piquet was better than his usual self, too - he reached Q2, for a change. But 4th... :D

Top-speed appears not to be Renault's problem - their low nose gives them an advantage there - but rather raw downforce. Honda are the ones struggling with top-speed (the Elephants can't be very slippery...), yet even they made Q3... Though what happened to Button?

What happened there ?? Hamilton was almost a second faster than Raikkenon and 6 tenths faster than Kubica . I dont think I've ever seen such a big margin.

@ Metar: Button had a problem with third gear.

wow that was impressive by kubica. i was actually hoping he would get pole, but looks like hamilton must be running light on fuel to be able to pull off a time like that at the end

No, that is just how a 2 time World Champion making the car look good. ;)
Good job indeed for Alonso to bring the car back in 4th. 👍 As for the whole entire qualifying session, it was really hard for everyone to push as the track was very slippery. Too bad Webber had to put it on the wall near the end of Q2, which meant he did not have a chance of qualifying during Q3. Ferrari had really been struggling at the last section of the circuit, particularly at the hairpin, and they really did suffer from it. Good work for both Hamilton and Kubica, as both manage to keep their pace from free practice all the way into qualifying and no doubt have a good race tomorrow. Nico also did a good job getting the car up there in Q3, even better than both his team mate and the Toyotas. But the worst of all the drivers had to be Nick. He was nowhere near Kubica and was struggling to keep pace with the others, and at times, looks as if he was going to get eliminated.

As it didn't rain today, the odd and chance are of raining tomorrow would be little and probably would stay dry for the rest of the race. Another concern is whether the track would hold up as there has been talk about how the road surface seems to be tearing apart and debris and marbles collecting up around the track surface. Should be a test to see whether the driver can cope with the track surface and the demanding corners without traction control. If it does rain tomorrow, then that would just make it even worse....... Prospect for tomorrow is the race ain't getting any boring and should be even better than what we saw in Monaco. :)

Perhaps Alonso and Heidfeld will swap seats next season. :p

I was (along with the SpeedTV announcers) going crazy for Kubica's P1, but then Hamilton destroyed him for the lulz. Ham is just crazy good at Canada.

Kind of sucks that the track is getting so abused, though. I wonder if the asphalt is actually going to rip up during the race... hope we don't get red-flagged tomorrow.

Ferrari had really been struggling at the last section of the circuit, particularly at the hairpin, and they really did suffer from it.

Words of wisdom, at last. Kimi "pulled a 'Nando" twice in Q3, when he went slightly wide on the hairpin and visited the marbles. Fastest in the first sector, but always lost it there.

What makes you say that, signor weather-man?

Another concern is whether the track would hold up as there has been talk about how the road surface seems to be tearing apart and debris and marbles collecting up around the track surface.

Indeed, the repaved parts of the circuit appear to be crumbling - a problem made worse by the fact that a lot of the repaved areas are on the apex of the corners - and heat-difference might cause large tears, because of non-linear expansion.

Should be a test to see whether the driver can cope with the track surface and the demanding corners without traction control. If it does rain tomorrow, then that would just make it even worse.......

And the last six races were what? :odd:

Although I expected Hamilton to take pole, to make up 4 tenths in the final sector, just by cutting the chicane a wee bit more than most doesn't make much sense. I think he's light fueled.. Or the others are fueled alot heavier than the norm.

Oh and GO RUBENS! Utterly dominated Button today, even if Jense's third gear was working, he wasn't gonna get out of Q1 looking at Practice times..
