2009 Magyar Nagydíj

Ferrari vs. McLaren rivalry is back, great news!!! Hope this will teach Red Bull and Braqwn to get KERS on their cars or they will never win another race in 2009.

Yes McLaren and Ferrari did improve this race relative to BrawnGP, I don't know if KERS was the reason. Hungaroring seemed to be a bit of a leveller in performance for all teams as only 1 second separated 2nd-19th in fastest laps for the race.
To say that non KERS cars won't win again this year is overly optimistic on your part, as the count stands at 9-1 in favour of NON KERS.

Red Bull and Rosberg's Williams and Glock were all on pace with the front runners.

Webber had the fastest lap, by half a second, yet was over 10kph down on top speed.Wing settings I imagine.

Hamiltons car used it's tyres near on perfect, making him the most consistant, the reason he won. Kimi may have been able to attack Lewis, if he hadn't problems in the pits. Not sure what happened, he couldn't get 1st gear or clutch was not engaging, but he lost 4-5 secs.

Tires may be the correct answer.

Hamilton's fronts were absolutely shredded as he pulled into the pits for the podium celebration... all the front-runners' tires seemed the same (at least those I could see on our local telecast).

I remember one commentator noting that Alonso's rear tires were severely worn before the first pits, which allowed Hamilton to close the gap to him quickly. (Didn't see this part... was on the road at the time and only sat down for the last half of the race...)

I'd expect Massa back in time for Singapore, if not Monza. But no sooner.
I seriously doubt it. With a brain injury and an eye injury, I'd be amazed if Massa returns this season. One can only hope that his injuries will not pose a threat to the rest of his career, let alone his season...

Yeah, he'd have been sprayed all over his car if it wasn't for the helmet. Poor guy. Are Brazilians just unlucky when it comes to accidents or something?

They weren't shredded, you just saw the extra rubber they pick up on the victory lap to make sure they are not under weight.

No, just motorsport accidents in general are unlucky. Or just plain weird, they always seem to come in groups like Imola 1994 or there's some weird connections like for example Alberto Ascari.

And again this past week we've had a couple of accidents and incidents involving debris on track.

Deaths in motor racing are not frequent. Most of them tend to be freak occurrences rather than foreseeable.

I remember reading after the Senna crash that more people where killed each year on golf courses that in motor racing. That puts it in some form of context. It's more a perception of danger that actual danger.

When I said frequent, I meant in the time frame I was referring to. Up until the 1990s it was very possible to die easily from even the most straightforward of accidents. Now, it is far less likely, but it is still very possible to die in a crash. A rollover could decapitate a driver if the car comes close enough to a guard rail. A wheel could hit a driver's face. Brakes could fail in front of a tarmac runoff. An incident could spin a car into a concrete wall. Even Nascar drivers in tanks of steel can still die from their brain hitting their skull in a crash. There are many possible ways to die in a race still. We're just lucky that those type of freak accidents haven't happened more often. Like Ardius pointed out, they tend to happen in bunches.

Golfers probably do die more often, but I don't see anybody trying to make them swing inside portable faraday cages, do you? I don't see anybody allowing wooden baseball bats to be replaced, either. They're still dangerous, but you'd have a hell of a time explaining that auto racing is safer than either of these sports to the average person, with a straight face. So yes, I'll agree it is more a perception of danger. But a very huge one, and for good reason.

TEAM RADIO/ Hamilton: Guys, weigh in after cool-down lap... where'd you plant the lead weights?

TEAM RADIO/ Pits: Hit the outside curb along Turn 4. Pretend you're doing it to wave to the fans. There's about twenty kilos there, if you should be able to pick them all up.

TEAM RADIO/ Hamilton: Bet I can pick one up on each tire.

TEAM RADIO/ Pits: A hundred pounds says you're on.

TEAM RADIO/ Hamilton: It's a bet.

Great race from Hamilton, it's nice to see him back (and I guess he grew up as a driver after a few months of "backmarking")

I agree, I am actually happy that Hamilton isn't doing quite as good this year, and spending some time in the bad part of the grid, as its definitely helping him scalp his maturity as a driver, and this win was just a reassurance for him that his still got it in. 👍

Looks like somebody has been watching Driven...

Massa asked this morning "em que posição estava na classificação quando houve o acidente?" lol this guy is awesome!!! "what position was I in the quali when I crashed?"

He's barely got any fuel in the car.

Precisely...
And he was still losing pace to Hamilton before his unfortunate pit stop. Frankly, it was personally horrifying how fast Hamilton was closing... Did Renault not factor in fuel when designing the R- series the last 3 seasons. I was astonished how fast the Red Bulls were in comparison, considering how much more juice they had at race start...

The others aren't really fast, the renault is really slow. Only 1 driver that can provide points, and a car that runs like a fat boy.

But McLaren is. Hamilton left everyone else for dead after getting around Alonso.
