Looks like this is out of the Daewoo-badged version...

Nevertheless, it looks good. You can definitely see where the Insignia ques are coming in for the European models (see the center dash), and certainly the Malibu as well (two-tone colors).

I have to say, I was blown away when I saw that, it looks almost too nice for a compact.

LOL, and people think GM make lowsy interiors! (Not that I'd care either way, so long as it's ergonomic)

It looks Cadillac CTS good in a car that will likely cost $14-18K when it comes to the US. I can't complain much, but the problem is, by the time we get them in the US the market could have changed rapidly.

Case in point: Fuel prices are dropping like a stone, and I can picture some Americans being stupid enough to going back to buying full-size cars and trucks if the trend continues.

I could see fuel prices leveling off a bit, likely until January '09. Probably the boys down at Exxon/Mobil, Texaco, Shell, BP/Amoco, etc helping out some of their buddies in Washington...

But, given how people have had the 'S' scared out of them, I'd hope they'd make better choices.

While fuel prices will drop for the time being they will always be on a upward trend overall. Some people will remember that but there will always be the moron that feels the need to buy a new Hummer then complain that fuel is $4.50 a gallon. Granted it's fully your choice on what you want to buy.

The interior on the Cruze is awesome, if they don't use cheap feeling materials it will be a winner. I'm excited to see this car, I hope it's at the NAIAS in January 09.

I think that might be a problem then. Remember that the Saturn Aura had such a great interior quality at auto shows and in preproduction examples that editors drove around, and then they started selling production versions with interiors akin to recycled garbage bags. Its entirely possible that we will face a repeat of that.

Right, but have a look at the Cadillac CTS and Chevrolet Malibu, two cars that have lived up to the promise of pre-pros very easily. Sure, the Chevrolet isn't in a class that can really be compared to the Cadillac, but it holds its own easily against the Toyota and Honda offerings. I'm optimistic with the Daewoo interior there, I can't imagine that it will be spot-on here in the US, but anything close would be stellar.

Here Are the Official Pics From General Motors:

Jalopnik
GM just dropped high resolution images of the upcoming Chevy Cruze small four-door on us in advance of its Paris Motor Show unveil later this year. At first glance, we're quite impressed. The new car gets a striking design which mixes smooth planes and sharp lines for a surprisingly handsome design. Oddly, the tail lights on the Cruze mimic the camouflage-ensconced headlights on the upcoming Chevy Equinox while also receiving the new bold front end from the Chevy Malibu. If this is the direction GM's small cars are going, we've gotta say, our interest is piqued. But that's just the design. We're also told the new 2011 Chevy Cruze will get three engines when it launches in Europe in March of 2009; a 16-valve, 1.6-liter (112 hp) and 1.8-liter (140 hp) gasoline engine, plus a new 2.0-liter turbo diesel (150 HP). All will be mated to either a five-speed manual or a class-leading six-speed automatic transmission. No official word yet on fuel economy -- but we've been told in the past we should expect somewhere near 45 MPG. We like.

Niiiice!

Too bad its more than a year away for those of us in the US...

That's a handsome looking car. Too bad it has such a stupid name, But I think we can forgive it for that...and the headlights getting pulled up towards the "A" Pillar.

The 5-series lights are a bit odd on a $14,000 Chevy, but we'll get used to it. I do hope the Cruze name doesn't stick in the US (I kinda like Cobalt), but, we'll see. I just want one with the 1.4L Turbo and a stick.

Now that I look at it, it seems like the styling was inspired by the new Focus. At least they made it look good and didn't borrow the flat rear from the Malibu.

It's a good looking car. It certainly looks a lot better than the outgoing Cobalt. We'll see how much better it really is. It'll also be interesting to see how it'll stack up against the new Euro Focus we'll be getting here.

Anybody else think it would look better with the little streaks at the corners of the lights gone?

Made some modifications:

Looks much better, imo. Sometimes corporate identity features get in the way of good design. Haven't tried putting the chevy logo in the center of the grill, but I think it looks fine like it is.

My first thought was Jetta. Maybe that shape is just something common.

Not even. Theres trend, then there's tracing. Saying something looks similar to car X is a shallow way to critique design, but the Cruze just has slightly sharper corners than the 7's. It's blatant.

I hate the front grille but love everything else. Can't we all just forget about this stupid corporate grille thing and just design aethetically pleasing cars again?

I think this is just a trend. If you look closely, the designs aren't so much identical as similar in shape. That and the lights on the Cruze were designed months before anybody outside Munich got to see the 7-series lights.

It's a fad. It'll pass, I'm sure.

One more interesting photo:

Without the studio effects, its still a good-looking car, but I'd love to see one in the flesh. All of the engineering on the car has been done by GM Europe and GM Asia, we Americans will just end up building it. If they can make 'em cheap (and maybe offer a wagon?), they'll sell a kajillion of them hopefully just on the premise of it being a "good car."

The grill is still ghastly...seriously this car would look fan-freaking-tastic in Saturn/Holden/Opel/Vauxhall trim.

I think it looks great. Love the front end. The last photo make it look a little tall though. It also looks a tad big for only having a 140/150hp engine. I still really like it overall though. Good job chevy. 👍

Will there be a Pontiac version?

The chassis will wind its way around to most of the assorted brands around the world, but the key here is that the Chevy will be a global model. The Opel/Vauxhall version will likely be dramatically different, same with the proposed Buick model as well. As for Pontiac, that gets a big "I don't know" from me. They're supposed to go all-RWD soon, but that keeps getting pushed back as fuel prices spike.

My money in the American market for this car to be a success depends on a Buick, Pontiac, or Saturn variant.

It looks good, I have nothing wrong with the grille like you guys, but the rear bumper looks too cheap.

Lucky Aussies then, we already had the Cruze name a few years ago in some crappy little 4WD thing, we will get something better, in both looks and names.:p
