I miss the days when you'd get the occassional V10 blowing up in every other race because they pushed like crazy with engine development.

Like how good of a commentator Martin Brundle is though!

I especially love the one of Vettel staring at Webber. Would make a good poster (particularly Darren Heath's shot, which has Webber's face a bit clearer, on the BBC website).

Will be watching the Practice sessions at some point on the iplayer. Nick Heidfled was really good on the commentary a month or so ago.

Practice one and two didn't show some good pace in the Lotus. Sauber seem to do well, the fastest newbies is the Virgin of Timo Glock but the wet session really hurts some drivers especially Hamilton who crashed onto the barrier. Quite an amount of off track moments throughout the session but with Sutil dominates FP1 and Alonso in FP2, it certainly is going to be very random on Saturday for qualifying...

A wet qualifying is going to make everything gone wild, but a wet race is going to set a massive fireworks!
 
Yeah, Virgin's developments have put them ahead of Lotus finally it seems. Not a complete surprise to me as they seemed to have the faster car at the start of the season. Now they have sorted their fuel tank error, they are focusing on developing the car and their CFD-only approach seems to be working.
Good job, but lets wait for the qualy and race before we sing the full praises 👍.

Not much else to say about those practice sessions, it was wet and greasy in both. If qualifying is wet too, certainly we can expect some surprises! Everyone is making mistakes at all parts of the track. Ferrari appear to be back on pace, I have to thank Chandhok for the fantastic commentary today for the BBC - he made a note of watching the Ferrari's in sector 3 which appears to be a major strong point for them. 👍

Is it just me, or does anyone else feel Chandhok would be a fantastic full time commentator? He switches from chatting on a topic to commentating whats on screen smoothly and then returning to the topic at hand after the onboards/whatever. He's also a mega-F1 fan! Its like one of us being an F1 driver, he knows so much! :lol:

He was a full time commentator for Star Sports last year with Steve Slater before he moved to Hispania. To be honest he really did a great job and he also provide the best info in the race instead of just chatting nonsense :lol:

I don't know about Chandhok, but Luciano Burti is a much better F1 commentator than he was an F1 driver.

I actually really liked his commentary. Informative, smooth and also backed up by a pretty nice sense of humour :P

Hopefully we don't see him in the commentary box too much, though :P
 
I have a new liking for Chandhok, I didn't really know anything about him if I'm honest but his commentary this morning/afternoon was superb, his knowledge is excellent and he's very good at managing conversations whilst still keeping an eye on what is going on and has a decent sense of humour.

Like SaberFire said though, as much as I enjoyed his commentary I'd rather see him out on track as that is really where he should be.
 
Agreed, I would love to see him doing well, though I'm not so sure he's deserving a top seat, he at least deserves another chance after this year. He's reliably finished races where he can and kept a reasonable margin to Senna (though Senna has pretty much been the faster of the two by far).
He wouldn't be out of place staying at HRT if it survives or at whoever gets the new entry. I fear he's competing with too many drivers for anything better though, maybe a Sauber drive at a stretch if De La Rosa runs out of money or something.
 
Wet/Damp qualifying? Would be interesting.
 
The weather is mostly cloudy now with temperature is at 18°C, humidity at 76% with quite a strong wind... Light rain is predicted at 13:00 which is around 10 minutes time.

Force India should give Mercedes a ring and see if quick Nick's available the Force India boss looked seriously ticked off with Liuzzi then.
 
Argh, Massa not quick enough! Would've been more interesting had Alonso got pole though. Good thing is now Massa and Vettel are on the clean side of the grid so Massa 2nd please :D
 
Hmmmm... Not-wet qualifying eh? Guess the weather forecast got it all wrong :lol:

Back on to topic, it was a great qualifying session, first time this year Ferrari managed to start on the front row after quite some time. An outstanding lap from Vettel towards the end and that'll be something for the German fans to cheer about. Not bad too for Massa after all these struggles he faced this season.

The session was halted in Q1 after a crash by Liuzzi who lost control of his car at the last corner and slammed on the pit wall. Sort of the repeat of Glock's 2008. Quite surprise Kobayashi challenging the front runners and Schumi didn't made the cut. The newbies however is no surprise that both Lotuses are ahead of Virgins and HRTs eventhough I thought they could lost it all to Glock this weekend.

Going to be a tight race up front tomorrow...

Gives a little hope to McLaren for race pace. If it was Ferrari's true pace then Red Bull would be well beaten too. Thankfully seems its qualifying tricks like Red Bull. Still bad for McLaren though as they have more cars to pass and could be stuck behind Massa. Being the third fastest while picking up lots of points could be over.
 
I'll bet Ferrari are fuming. They probably expected to lock out the front row, only to have Vettel blitz them.

Still, any time Maranello get egg on their faces is a good day.
 
Vettel is the new Schumacher. That much is certain. I don't know if he'll ever race for Ferrari, though. It seems unlikely.

Legard said he had a problem - but didn't elaborate - and I had to go out immediately after Kubica crossed the line...

My commentator Steve Slater said he ran wide at turn 9 which is the harpin in the Stadium Section... I could be wrong though. No replay either.

EDIT: We'll just wait for his quote...

So RedBull (barely) take pole again. But Sebbie has 2 orses right behind him ready to gallop by at the start tomorrow. So, does this all mean that Ferrari is back in contention?
 
As Murray Walker put it many times, "its ding-dong stuff all the way from here!". Alonso and Vettel are setup for a great fight tomorrow, hopefully it works out that way 👍.
Button outqualifies Hamilton 👍.
Barrichello once again comes good with the Williams, also a notable mention for Hulkenburg still doing a solid job. 👍

Mercedes still struggling. They really should have been ahead of Renault and Williams but they just can't seem to hook it up in qualifying. 👎

i most certainly think so. The F10 has looked like it's been on rails the entire weekend, which is a testament to their latest diffuser update and ecu ignition revilements which help take full advantage of the blown diffuser. The good thing is that Ferrari's updates seem to work quite well off the bat, or at least within a reasonable amount of time, whereas Mclaren is still playing catch up with their blown diffuser design and still have yet to implement the ignition retardation into the picture. Mclaren were supposed to make a BIG step forward at Silverstone, but instead they seemed to have gotten stuck in a bit of a rut in terms of development in the past two races. On the other hand Ferrari's development (once they decided to get off of their asses) pace has been quite impressive of late and I fully expect this to continue as they fight their way back into the WDC hunt. I should also mention that their recent acquisition of ex-Mclaren designer, Pat Fry will also play a large role in developing the F10 even further toward the end of the season.

The teams will be headed to Budapest for the next round which should suit the characteristic's of the F10 quite well, and lets not forget how beastly Alonso has been around there in the past (his epic drive in the rain for Renault in 06' and pole in 2009 with that dog of a Renault). IMO things only look up for Ferrari past Budapest, with a massive update slated for Spa which includes a new gearbox package with revised rear suspension geometry and radically altered diffuser to take advantage of the more compact gearbox which should make a substantial difference in performance. After Spa they are off to Monza (I don't know what updates they will bring if any) which should suit them particularly well as they have excellent straightline speed (better than RBR) and better curb riding ability than the latest shopping cart Mclaren's. After that they will be off to Singapore which should once again suit their cars characteristics quite well. With all that said, if Ferrari and Alonso can perform to the maximum in the next four or so races they will most certainly be in a strong position to fight it out with the top teams for the remaining 4 races of the season 👍

I know the haters won't like to hear all of this about the most legendary team in the sport :lol:
