I'll just say that I agree Ferrari seem to have found pace again (it was visible at Montreal, Valencia and Silverstone) but they are far from securing the championship just yet. Lets not count the chickens, eh?
As with those afforementioned examples, they can still screw up or be screwed by factors within and outside of their control. Alonso will be extremely determined to win tomorrow and I fully expect some fireworks. Problem is, Alonso has been losing his cool and making some dozy moves this season. For his sake, he needs to win tomorrow or at least bring in a clean 2nd.
Massa also has a chance to shine though he is a massive 5 tenths slower.

It also has to be said that Ferrari and McLaren's pace has always been better in the races this season, so with only a 2 thousandth advantage, Vettel is really going to have to fight for this win.

Not exactly a safety car free zone here either.

So RedBull (barely) take pole again. But Sebbie has 2 orses right behind him ready to gallop by at the start tomorrow. So, does this all mean that Ferrari is back in contention?

No. There's a lot riding on Germany and Hockenheim - Ferrari need good results at both races to stay in the fight. And if the Red Bulls and/or the McLarens do well, Ferrari will need to carry that momentum into the post-winter break season. A second and a third place in qualifying does not put them back in contention by any means.

WHEN did Ferrari ever fall out of contention to win the WDC anyway?
 
Don't read too much into Alonso's pole last year. He was running on about 8 laps worth of fuel don't forget :lol: I hope Massa get's the jump on Alonso at the start tomorrow. He needs to show he can put up with the best. Knowing Massa's luck though Alonso will run him wide turn 1 and he'll lose 3 to 5 places. 👎


I can see Vettel running away with it if I'm honest. But I'll hope for a weather impacted race which might see Massa benefit in some way :trouble: Hopefully if it does rain he won't drive like Silverstone 08.

They may not be completely out of the picture, but it's looking that way. They need good results in Germany and Hungary to keep the fight alive - if they don't, they're going to need to start praying that a few other results go their way.
 
Ferrari have to be consistently on the podium with several wins to win either championship.


It sucks that Alonso couldn't beat Vettel, but at least the McLarens are behind.
 
Heikki just Tweets about 8 hours ago saying that the engine is a little bit of a concern but should be owkey for the race tomorrow... Owkey I am concerned now.

Funny... Reuters is suggesting Button's newfound qualifying pace is due to his reunion with Jessica Michibata.

Guess he wasn't getting enough emotional support from the Mclaren bro-mance love-in. :D

Ferrari's upgrades this weekend are fantastic. Not to read too much into their leapfrogging McLaren, we know McLaren is having a hard time implementing the blown diffuser... but the fact that they're bang on Red Bull's qualifying pace adds a new element to the title race.

Alonso for the win. Likely.
 
Whas just checking the rain radar of Belgium and Germany,there is a rain front arriving from the west directly in the direction of the circuit....Its too early to tell if it will actually hit the circuit or will go just past it...but i would say there is a good chance we will see some rain during the race...

Please let it be so halfway thru the race,so we get some chaos and action!!!...

I am watching Porsche Supercup now and yes the sky is getting a bit darker... Temperature at 19°C and humidity at 48%. Not as bad as yesterday but there's a chance for sure...

The circuit is situated in the mid west of the country...you can see the rain comming,but as it looks now it will maybe come a bit too late to have an effect on the race....we'll see...:)

Agreed mate. The race was a bit boring...

I see the big clouds from west but by looking at it I think it's moving too slow that it might fall towards the end of the race. As you said, we'll see ;)

EDIT: Aha, 20 minutes to go racing and the sky is getting darker and darker... According to the radar, there are still more clouds coming from west to the circuit.

I want Ferrari to win but this isn't right, there was no need for Massa to let him through.
 
Unbelievable... was the reason he got signed up for a few years because he has agreed to be Alonso's lap dog?

How wasn't there a need? Alonso is 30 points ahead on Massa and on that alone the best chance to get the drivers title this year. 07 and 08 showed the importance of even 1 point in the championship. Having Alonso gain an extra 5 points than he would obtain otherwise is 5 points needed.

Don't get me wrong it is completely wrong for Ferrari to have done it but at the same time you could say it was necessary in Ferrari's eyes.

I wish this nonsense was taken as seriously as match fixing in almost any other sport since I don't see a difference. And please don't come with the excuse that it's beneficial to the team - of COURSE it is but we don't pay to see something so obviously staged.

We have Wrestling and Top Gear for that....

The next best thing to the constructors is the Drivers championship. If anything, it is more important than the constructors as more people are aware of and follow the drivers championship than the constructors (promotion wise).

Anyhow just to be clear. I don't condone it even as a Ferrari fan. But it was the logical thing to do.

On that note, Ferrari 1-2 in one way or another!!!

Pity Lotus had a bad weekend. Always hope for more from them.

The race that I thought would be right has just gone terribly wrong...

Dissapointed with the Ferrari, just how much I want to see Massa to win after a looong time but team-order is just ridiculous and put it all to a bin. Dissapointment for Lotuses, and Saubers. I thought Kobayashi could make it up top 10 but didn't happen. Rain didn't fall... But a race full of dissapointment. Congratulations Massa and Vettel... I just couldn't imagine Massa's feeling on the podium. He didn't even play around with the Champagne. ''I have just got robbed!''

I guess 2 weeks a week time of waiting and 2 years more to Hockenheim again.
