I really like that interior.

Same. Its both futuristic, and a throwback, and full of wood. The Brits do interiors the right way. Well, minus the electric bits not working and the sticky bits falling off.

Funny thing is that I still prefer the "old" XJ to the "new" 7-series, S-class, A8, and the like. Certifiably crazy, I am!

I imagine I would be worse for taking the Phaeton over all of the above. but then again, I'm not really into these sorts of cars.

Look at that startup animation! Look at it! Holy mother of…

The blacked-out C-pillar makes me sad. Everything else makes me happy.

That dash makes it especially land-yacht like, but the interior and front are really nice. I'd do one.

The Autoblog article says the badass dual-view in-dash screen isn't legal in the States yet, but it'll be available in Europe and elsewhere. That sucks.

I love the looks. All of it.

Yes, I see a lot of quattroporte in the proportions, but it's distinct enough, and they got the relation right.

I loved the old XJ, but, let's face it... I'm not the potential market. For potential buyers, the fact that the XJ was more cramped (okay... cozy... but they mean the same thing) than the competition and looked old hat for at least fifteen years of its life didn't help it overthrow the German establishment.

The new XJ exudes modernity, muscularity, and, from the looks of those interior pics... luxury. This is the way for Jaguar to go if it's going to survive the next twenty years.

Thank goodness they did away with the XF dual-monocle treatment... but isn't that ever the case? The S-Type looked strangely goofy compared to the XJ, too.

I reckon it is a spetacular looking car, save for that disgusting rear end. I would buy one if I bought based on practicality.

It doesn't capture my soul.

Proper Jags capture my soul.

I think these new cars are brilliant automobiles. Half of my love of Jag was its determination to be steadfast in a changing automotive world. They are now just another luxury car brand.

Not sure who the target consumer is for the XJ nowadays, but to my eyes that is for the most part, terrible.

The front works quite well in isolation - though as has already been mentioned, it's quite Quatroporte like.

After that it all goes down hill... the sides are too flat, leaving it looking featurless... for me, the line that flows from the front wings through to the rear needs to be more prominant. The glasshouse is too low for a car of this type... and when combined with the flat sides, makes the car look ill proportioned. And the black C pilars/wrap around rear screen looks over-fussy.

But the biggest problem is the rear. I just can't find the right words to express how bad I think the rear is... the angles around the rear 3/4's and the boot (trunk) and the rear lights are dreadful... It looks like some Korean manufacturer trying too hard.

Interior looks very nice.

Still, not something that would ever appear on my shopping list. If i had the money and inclination to buy a car of this typre I'd be buying an S Class.

I wouldn't call that crazy. I've always preferred the XJ to anything in that class.

Anyone else seeing some Citroen C6 in this?
It's an interesting departure.

Around the C pillar? Yeah I thought that too, I also think the rear light clusters are a little Lancia Thesis-ish.
Not sure about the back, it may grow on me but at the moment I think looks like it has melted a little. The front, the side and the interior all look amazing though. Aside from the Maserati QP, its way ahead of anything else in its class style-wise.

The front looks like a Maserati and the back looks like a Citroën. I think it's one of those cars you need to see in person to really get a feel whether it looks awful or not. Right now I'm on the fence, I don't hate it but it's nothing to write home about. The interior looks cool though, I'll give it that.

I think I need some time to let it grow on me. At the minute I still prefer the old one.

*Orders tweed jacket*

You think this car looks awesome, GTjazzabrandy? Well, I think this is the best-looking Jaguar since the newer design model. I was too skeptical of the overall design change from about 2006 for Jaguar. Certainly out of the norm, but it's lovely to me.

I think the exterior is a good traslation of the XF style and with a fantastic, modern/classic interior.

Just out of interest does anyone think that this could compete with things like the Panamera which is in a higher price bracket?

The interior is stunning. I can grow to the goofiness of the rear end, because that is the best looking interior I have ever seen. I love the side profile and the front as well.

Damn tradition! Full Speed ahead!

This had better damn well be a home run for Jaguar.

It's certainly a radical change, the interior is quite stunning...

But I think i'll take a Panamera instead. :p

The only real work that needs to be done is the rear.

Personally, I wouldn't put the Panamera in the same class. That's more for the Quattroporte, CLS, 5-series GT, among others. I'd have the Jaguar based solely on my love for all things Anglo, but that by no means makes it a superior car.

Yeah, and a B&W sound system! Wow!

They just needed to do a 90deg rotation and a vertical flip on those tail lights and it would've been perfect.

This car is "BAAAAAD TO THE BONE...B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-BAD...BAAAAD TO THE BONE"!!!!!!!

Saw this car in person and got to sit in it after BSing the Jaguar guy a little bit. What a fantastic car. Jaguar was really the most impressive brand at the auto show this year. The XF Supercharged was insane. Most of its competitors had a poor showing though... probably because it was only the insider preview. Mercedes didn't even show up and BMW only brought its M SUVs, an M3, the 5GT, and the 335d besides their base lineup.

Anyway, back to the XJ. Pictures do not do this car justice... especially the interior. The materials are just superb-- craziest wood treatment I've ever seen. I really applaud Jaguar for this turnaround. Looks like the TATA money is just what they needed. Also, the car is huge. Long as a pickup truck.
