Hamilton has, historically, been good in the rain, aside from one or two races like Canada and Hungary (to be fair, he was on the wrong tires at the time he spun...). Vettel, too. He won his very first victory in F1 in the rain!

I would not count either driver out in a wet race here. Sure, Button's more steady style works better in the rain, but when Vettel and Hamilton are focused, they're difficult to beat.

Focus, mind you, being the operative word. As we've seen this season, Hamilton's focus hasn't been very good...

I don't want to start a fight, but next time you post a link to something to prove you are right, could you please make sure I get more than the Youtube Mobile homepage?

"Schumacher won 17 of the 30 races in wet conditions he contested. Some of Schumacher's best performances occurred in such conditions, earning him the nicknames "Regenkönig" (rain king) or "Regenmeister" (rain master)."

I don't think Hamilton is the best in the rain. Id give that title to Schumacher or Vettel and probably even Button before I gave it to Hamilton.

Tim O'Glock has a new lid for this race:

I have to visit relatives on Sunday, so I'm kinda annoyed that I'm gonna miss Vettel winning the championship. :sly: Will have to record it I guess

This race is my favourite of the year, I even get the girlfriend interested since it looks pretty or something similar to that effect.... I am out all day though too, but with F1 fans so we are going to watch it recorded later on with the drinks on hand:tup:

Watching them as non-championship races now, all out for the wins and hope its a really good race to match the rest this year! I've driven the track on simulators (Netkar Pro simulation) and it is by far my favourite track. You really build up a rhythm with a lot of emphasis on the gears in the corners, and some straights to raise the speed again whilst brushing up against every wall to use the track width :)

I see the title itself going to Japan, but Red Bull have about 80 champions caps for the team prepared and a location reserved for the party sunday night... I expect it will be a small formal dinner, nothing heavy? :sly:

On the wet weather discussion, I think there is a definite distinction between where Hamilton does better and where Button has the upper hand. If it is full on wet weather, then Hamilton is the better driver. The reason for the crash in Canada was being over-eager to pass Button so early in the race when he was by a way the fastest driver on track. Button however is better in changing conditions like we saw in Hungary. Wet to begin with, then there is the call for dry tyres, then a "wet" period of rain where the drivers had to decide whether it would get worse or stay away. He reads those situations far better with immaculately timed stops.

He needs to win the race and Alonso can be no higher than 4th. So it is a very real possibility, although I think it is more likely to happen in Japan.

I would prefer it to happen in Japan. After all, he's only been to Suzuka twice, and he has won twice. A third is pretty much guaranteed.

How I love giant flood lights to light a track up!!! Those McLarens really look nice under them.

Indeed. All the cars look particularly special here. If I'm not mistaken, all teams have to use a different kind of paint here that provides greater visibility. Not sure if this is true or just the random ramblings of Ted Kravitz though.

Damn, I just bought my Vettel #1 cap a few months ago. I foresee another purchase soon. At least I have the beanie for winter though.

Pretending to demonstrate that driver X is the best driver in the rain showing only one example doesn't mean anything. I could just as well say the title goes to Alonso for overtaking 15+ cars in four laps in the rain, just like this.

But it turns out Alonso had the only car with a wet setup in that race, so...

I think you mean Hamilton ran into Button?

I thought is was more of a racing incident. Button did run him into the wall, but Lewis probably should've known that he was going to move over. Racing in the rain isn't exactly without risk.

Button was taking the racing line. Hamilton went for a gap that was always going to close, and where Button couldn't see him.

But why are we talking about the Canadian Grand Prix in the Singapore Grand Prix thread?

It all started when interludes mentioned the Canadian Grand Prix to probably indicate Lewis is not the best in the rain. interludes how come you changed your username to prisonermonkeys?

Edit: I think I know why, probably to centralize usernames you use.

Thank you. I do not get this board's utter fascination with Lewis Hamilton. I like that McLaren is keeping up appearances that the title is not for all intents and purposes decided, but the race from now really is for 2nd place. Does anyone know if the 2012 regs are dramatically different from this year, other than the blown diffuser ban?

If we didn't have wonderboy to talk about, these F1 threads would be dreadfully short.

I don't know why you people are getting worried about the weather; they just have to run 45 laps behind the safety car, let them loose for one lap, and call it a race with the red and checkered flags. It's so evil and awful, but you know it's going to happen one day.

I'd also like to mention the very wet 1951 Swiss Grand Prix, in which Villoresi clearly moved over on his Ferrari-teammate Ascari, and nobody said anything.

Is it just me, or has the build-up to this race been unusually quiet? Maybe it's just the way everyone's attention is focused on the release of F1 2011, but there just seems to be no real news coming out of Singapore. The only thing I've seen of any real interest is the annoucement of the DRS zone for the race.

Maybe we'll see something more tonight since it's Thursday.

Wish I could go... Say that every year, but I just don't have the extra moolah.

Everyone is trying to think of funny captions for the F1 picture caption thread :sly:

Friday practice should make for more discussion, and yes I am trying to dial in my G25 for PS3 F1 2011 game :)

Not much to say really--both titles are virtually locked up and it doesn't seem like anything major will happen in the driver's market. Hamilton didn't really do anything out of the ordinary so there's nothing to obsess over and endlessly re-hash. Maybe re-discuss whether Button is an elite driver?

I'm going!!

My first F1 race... flying out from the UK tomorrow morning...

Really looking forward to it - although fully expecting to not be able to hear for a week afterwards!!

Don't know where I'm sitting at the moment as a friend booked the tickets!

C.

FIA in charge, ex-driver named Enzo something was assisting the stewards ... it's all a conspiracy.

Anyway, I think Toulo de Grafenried's race was epic, don't you think?
