Despite Gordon's win, Hamlin's finish is going to hurt my points... :(

I wanted to pick him, but didn't want to use a CP. I'm still hesitant to pick Jr, but he's been a solid pick for a while now...

Totally proud of my boy Jeff Gordon getting it done at Pocono. He's one of only a few drivers in the Top 12 with multiple wins. Jeff Gordon is going to be in the NASCAR Hall of Fame once he hangs it up and calls it a career. Heck, I'll vote him in right away along with Mark Martin.

Up next for Cup and Nationwide... one of my personal favorite ovals- Michigan. Or should I say, Mee-chigan. Two miles of high speed action. I was going to mention Trucks too, but according to the schedule on Yahoo! Sports, Trucks don't race again until July 7 at Kentucky.

Anyhow, congrats to Jeff Gordon!

Quoted from NASCAR.com...

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- NASCAR has penalized the No. 18 team in the Sprint Cup Series as a result of rule infractions discovered during post-race inspection Sunday at Pocono Raceway.

The No. 18 car was found to be in violation of Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing); 12-4-J (any determination by NASCAR officials that race equipment used in the event does not conform to NASCAR rules); and 20-12.8.1B (body height requirements -- car failed to meet the minimum front car heights) of the 2011 NASCAR rule book.

As a result, crew chief Dave Rogers has been fined $25,000, while owner Joe Gibbs and driver Kyle Busch have been penalized with the loss of six championship owner and six championship driver points, respectively.

Joe Gibbs Racing released a statement Monday afternoon: "We brought the No. 18 car back to our race shop and have identified the problem which caused us to measure low during the post-race inspection process in Pocono [Sunday] afternoon. We have made NASCAR aware of our findings and we accept the penalty they have issued today."

Haha, this was the best week yet! Jeff Gordon winning and Byle Kusch facing a penalty and a fine.

Slap on the wrist...
With the old points system, that type of penalty would range from 50-100 loss of points. Unfortunately, the old points don't exactly translate to the new points but according to some quick calculations, a 50 point loss before would be roughly 10-12 points today.

Actually the penalty for the same infraction with the old system was 25 points.

You're right. I forgot that the dollar amount of the fine used to tell you the amounts of points lost ($25k fine = 25 points). 💡

My revised calculation converts a 25 point loss before to a 6-7 point loss now. Nice to know I can still do math!

Rumor has it that Andretti Autosport is looking into NASCAR. Believe what you will (or will not), but thats the word.

Hmm.. lets see if "the Hub" has any news about it.

Watkins Glen Track president has filed an appeal to Nascar to allow the cup series to run the full Circuit.

 I really hope this happens

YEAH EVEN LONGER WAIT TO SEE CARS

lol just kidding lol

Surely enough, the Hub has confirmed it: Andretti Autosport is exploring getting into NASCAR so thats no longer a rumor. I get the feeling this is them trying replace all the money that Danica is taking with her from Godaddy.com

Since they'll likely have penalties not involving points, I don't really see much in talking about them.

Red Bull won't be racing next year.

Red Bull leaving NASCAR? UPDATE: Multiple people familiar with the decision say Red Bull [#4-Kahne & #83-Vickers] plans to leave NASCAR at the end of this season. Those familiar with the decision also say a team official traveled to Michigan Speedway last weekend to inform industry leaders of Red Bull's decision. The people spoke on condition of anonymity because an official announcement has not been made to team employees. Red Bull is both the owner and sponsor of the two-car NASCAR team. The team has struggled since its 2007 entry into NASCAR. Red Bull also owns a pair of two-car Formula One teams. Current points leader Sebastian Vettel is the reigning world champion and has won five of seven Grand Prix races this season.(Associated Press)(6-20-2011)
UPDATE: Sources say employees at Red Bull Racing have been told that the NASCAR Sprint Cup operation will close at the end of the year. A surprise visit by race director Thomas Ueberall had crew members scrambling for job openings at Michigan this weekend. Two scenarios mentioned for the existing equipment could be general manager Jay Frye bringing in investors and starting a new operation with Mark Martin and engines from Hendrick Motorsports, a plan that Frye had tried to expedite over the last two years with pushback from Austria. The hot rumor of late has been the return of Ray Evernham in an ownership role similar to Tony Stewart's at SHR, with Red Bull as the sponsor. On Monday Evernham told FOXSports.com he "had zero desire to be an owner again." Evernham said he had no knowledge on a Red Bull deal. Apparently, Red Bull was fairly far down the line in negotiations with Clint Bowyer for the #4 ride next season. It was one of the few companies that could afford Bowyer. Another dilemma with the Red Bull situation is what happens to Cole Whitt, who currently drives for the organization in the Camping World Truck Series. Certainly, if Frye acquires the assets, Whitt must be part of that plan.(Fox Sports)(6-20-2011)

Hopefully Vickers can find a decent ride.

Wow, sorta out of no where. There were also talks of JPM going to Redbull, but I like the idea of Mark having his own team with lots of HMS affiliation and if RedBull stays as a primary sponsor that'd be even better.

Wow, that came out of the blue. Strangely though, it still looks like if this goes through, it'll still work out for Kasey Kahne and Mark Martin. However, I have to wonder what will happen to Brian Vickers.

Pretty sure Cole Whitt is safe as he's driving for Stacy Compton's team with Red Bull Sponsorship.

Update on Red Bull Racing

UPDATE 2: Statement from Red Bull Racing: "Red Bull Racing Team is currently seeking outside investors as we evaluate next steps in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. We are not at liberty to comment on details while negotiations are under way. Red Bull fully supports NASCAR for the remainder of the 2011 season as we fight for victories and a position in the 2011 Chase for the Sprint Cup."(Red Bull Racing)(6-20-2011)

I don't know, it seemed kind of logical. With Kahne leaving next year what would they do? Vickers is decent, but not a big enough contender to carry the name. Bowyer? He'd be crazy to leave RCR and RCR would be stupid not to try and keep him. He's a chase contender, unless Hendricks, Gibbs or Roush offered him a ride, he shouldn't even consider leaving RCR. Furthermore, with JR carrying the 'Amp' logo, it's hard for any other energy drink, to try and steal some spotlight. Even if Red Bull is the bigger/more popular company, Jr still rules the industry as far as popularity goes. I could see Redbull sponsoring a car, but not an entire team anymore.
