So SHR or BK...

I was thinking, could Penske possibly go to Chevrolet within the next few years? Seeing as they're switching to Chevy in IRL for 2012, and they'll be Chevy's top team over there...

They're the reason why dodge still can show their face in the motorsports area...

So, I'm watching my first NASCAR race today. Sort of; it's highlights from the Nationwide Series race at Joliet. We get the feed from ESPN, and I have to say ... my god is it over-scored! When the race and the circuit are introduced, it's accompanied by very dramatic music that sounds like it belongs in a Michael Bay film.

That is pretty much, advertising for NASCAR racing in a nutshell. You should see what ESPN usually does for the Chase, they make it out like its some sort of epic TNT-esque drama show.

Also, where are you from again?

Oh, yes, it's very dramatic. And kind of anti-climactic; the music has been the most exciting part of the race for now. Maybe I'm just too used to V8 Supercars.

I'm in Australia. My avatar/user title/location are themed.

I have no clue why they are doing a highlight show of the lower tier series at one of the more boring tracks on the schedule. Doesn't exactly do the series justice.

Edit: Going off of what RACECAR said, you know the voice overs they put into movie trailers to make it seem dramatic? They do that for pretty much every race commercial.

Side Note: The 2012 schedule is supposedly going to be released today(September 28).

Yeah watching Nationwide most times usually doesn't do the series in a whole, justice (Nascar that is). I love nationwide, but the bigger series is where egos are at. Like F1 will be way better than GP2 because you have the top tier egos on the track. Watching the highlight show kind of just takes it two steps lower. Maybe you should watch Dover this weekend and you'll see what the rest of us mean

Well, we get hour-long highlights of all the races. We had the race at Chicagoland, then New Hampshire.

This is how we do it in Australia:

Start from 0:40 to 1:10. Sure, it's Pink, but the song really matches the visuals.

I'll be attending the free-to-the-public testing session at PIR on Tuesday. 👍

Will post pics if I get any good ones.

Oh, look. Edwards with a speeding penalty, Brad with power-steering issues and guess who's leading? Same story every year. 👎

Time to write off Ryan Newman for the Chase. I'm tempted to do the same for Junior but...

...okay, I'm writing off Junior.

Looking at the schedule, I foresee the 48 being the points leader by Charlotte. 👎

I'm not going to write off Jr. two bad luck weekends in a row...and only 30 some points back isn't anything really. Kansas is a boring track to me but oh well. Newman is going to need to finish in the top ten, mainly top five if he is going to come close. I mean Hamlin not Newman, I think Newman has a shot to come back too

If there is anyone that is to be written off, its Hamlin. Three races in a row and he's still last. I'm pretty sure he's the only guy that has no chance. Jr's only 30 points back so he isn't done quite yet, but Hamlin on the other hand seems useless. Also, you are giving it to Johnson way too early. I won't consider Jimmie a threat unless he makes it past Talladega.

In other news, Rusty Wallace is considering shutting down his two-car Nationwide series team for 2 seasons until sponsorship opportunities improve.

The way I see things, the only way drivers like Hamlin, Newman, and Earnhardt can make any type of comeback requires not top tens or even top fives but wins.

The 88 and 39, to be honest, has actually run well but they just don't have the luck. The 11 is a mess and they appear like a team already admitting defeat.

On a related note, I'm not liking the 24's chances right now. I get the feeling they lost the hot hand and won't get it back.

Everyone talks about wins, Newman we know can get wins, and even though I'm a big Jr. fan I really only see Taladega, Phoenix, N.C., Texas, Martinsville. Kansas is a boring track and reminds me somewhat of Chicagoland which Jr. can be good at from time to time. Homestead I've really never seen Jr. do good on, but most years I never watch that race cause the championship is already decided at the end of PHX in chase years.

He did drop positions in the standings, however they gained points on the leaders, so they're not out of it yet.

Yeah I agree the top nine all still have good chances for the championship as of now. I can see Jeff getting a good top five at Kansas and gain some more spots

How does it compare to the old configuration?

On a related note, Pocono is next on the repave train.

Pocono Raceway to be repaved: per an image on Pocono Raceway's Facebook, look for an announcement today [around 11am/et] that Pocono Raceway will repave the track before the start of the 2012 racing season. Supposedly work has already begun on removing asphalt.
UPDATE: On June 4, 2010 Pocono Raceway announced the Raceway was embarking on an expansive construction project directed to improve driver safety and enhance competition. In the fall of 2010, more 5,500 feet of the new generation SAFER (Steel and Foam Energy Reduction) barrier was installed to the inside of the track from the exit of turn one to the entrance of turn three, and more than 6,100 feet of catch fence added from the front straight to turn two.
Today, Raceway President and CEO, Brandon Igdalsky announced the kick-off of phase two of the project that includes: a new outer pit wall, concrete pit stalls and repaving of the 2.5 mile superspeedway, known as "The Tricky Triangle." "We received input from a number of drivers, as well as, NASCAR Officials before making our final improvement plans," stated Igdalsky. "A new outer pit wall will replace the current pit wall and new concrete pit stalls will provide an excellent surface for pit stops and subsequent burn-outs. Our pit stalls are already among the largest on the circuit and our pit road is one of the widest and safest in NASCAR," Igdalsky added. "Pocono was last repaved in 1995 and all construction work will be completed prior to Pocono Raceway's June 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event." Pretty cool. They don't spend much time against the turn 2 wall before they are headed for the dogleg. Which, in itself is crazy from a spectators perspective. They drop down into the apex then climb back out. Looks like a roller coaster. :dopey:

Edit: Video added to picture post. In all it's crappiness.
