I really wanted to see Burton win.
Thanks RCR for making the finish boooooooring.
Bayne should have stuck with Gordon, they would have had a good shot at the RCR cars.
R1600TurboYeah, that down right pissed me off when he pulled out. "Let's make a deal". Yeah right...
Race Buddy freezes on my end after five minutes so I ditched it at the end. My guess is that the 48 got shuffled out to the outside on the last lap and fell to the back. Edwards gained his spots going on the inside.I was watching Edwards' onboard at the end of the race on Race Buddy, and the last two laps went mostly as he planned it - he gained ~15 spots despite more than one very hairy moment.
Was anyone watching Johnson's view? Why wasn't he able to gain any positions at the end? 26th place and the resulting 50-point deficit in the championship are going to be almost impossible to overcome in four races with six drivers ahead of him in the standings. I think any of the top five (Edwards (-0), Kenseth (-14), Keselowski (-18), Stewart (-19), and Harvick (-26)) have a legitimate chance to win the championship, with Edwards reaffirming himself as the favorite.
I think it wouldn't be that bad if Johnson won again...
But go Jeff Gordon too!
LancerEvo7^Wrong thread?
SpacegoatIt would have been really nice to see Burton win today, but what a stupid move by Bayne to stand Gordon up at the end, I know that he was only following orders but he cost himself a possible top 5 finish.
I would think that potentiality losing your seat in the car would be a worse fate. Ford could have probably convinced Roush and the Wood brothers to put Stenhouse in that car for next season had Bayne pushed Gordon to a win after being given a direct order to not do so.
You're missing the point that they made a deal with the #24 - his whole team - then duped them on the restart like they thought it was funny. That's what I have a problem with. Point is, if you're not planning on helping them anyway, just tell them no.
From what I remember on that last restart, Bayne was working with Gordon. Then Kenseth (who may or may not have known about the 21/24 deal) came up behind to make it a 3 car draft, and the #24 in the lead (of the draft) got shoved to the side and left behind. The 17 continued to push the 21.
Correct. In that scenario, one of them was guaranteed to be hung out to dry. Now whether the 17 intended to get behind the 21 all that time and whether the 21 would have ditched the 24 if another Chevy got behind the 21 is a matter of debate. Honestly, I don't really care because it doesn't change my opinion on how I think about Talladega racing today. From what I remember on that last restart, Bayne was working with Gordon. I don't like it. 👎
A lot of the drivers that were hanging back in the first part of the race stayed in a long train for a while.
