And yet, Spain has two races (and America will have two races) when the UK does not. Bernie Ecclstone justified a second race in Spain by wanting to capitalise on the popularity of Fernando Alonso. You'd think he'd recognise the same thing here, even if only as a chance to make more money.

You have Hamilton, Button, Di Resta and of course a large amount of the teams are based around the UK. Using a single driver as reasoning for more races in a specific country is invalid when you have multiple teams and driver from another.

Bernie did admit that he came very close to establishing a race in London a few years ago - on the back of the demonstration run in 2004 that saw 400,000 people turn out; twice as many as Silverstone has been known to get - but the cost was the big killer. And now, he's offering to fund a race in London himself. Sure, it might have said that to deflect negative attention in the wake of the Gerhard Gribkowsky case, but I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss it as PR management, given that there is an historical precedent.

How about before he was gone? That would have been avoidable then. After all, nobody lese managed to spin on that puddle.

Sooner or later, Bruno Senna will become a liability to Williams. It doesn't matter how much money he brings to the team - if he keeps this up, they'll cut him loose.

Well no one else spun on that puddle because they all saw Bruno do it. I don't really see what Bruno did wrong there - that kind of aquaplaning can happen to anyone - which is why the teams see it as a risk to run in these conditions.
Lets put it this way, if its due to Bruno being a poor driver, why did Lotus not send Grosjean out? Do you think its because they don't trust him not to crash it? Of course not, its the same risk for every team and when it happens I don't think we can really blame it on the drivers..or at least not driver error. Maybe he could have been more careful, maybe not. The videos show that he was already full throttle with his steering held straight-ish, its not like he was chucking it about the track and running wide or anything. He was driving almost in a straight line and aqua-planed in a massive puddle. Very tricky conditions.

And also, we did actually see other drivers getting it wrong yesterday. Just most of them were lucky to do it in places where they could recover or simply locking the brakes.

Certainly though it doesn't do his image any good this season. A big shame really and we are all left in the dark as to why. I can only assume he just can't get these tyres working this year as he's been plain slow most of the time. In 2011 and 2010 he did at least show bursts of speed and at Malaysia and China this year there was a little bit of that. He's going to need a miracle couple of results before the end of the year and even then I doubt he's going to get another chance.

Bernie doesn't make money from ticket sales but from hosting fees. If no one has the money to host a race it doesn't happen, simple as that. So its not a case of Bernie recognising it or allowing it but more a case of no one really coming to him with an offer.
Not to mention in Spain, Valencia I believe is funded by the local government. Fat chance of that happening overhere (though more stupid decisions on spending have been made).

Silverstone is the only suitable circuit though.

Donington could have its upgrades completed. A street circuit is not out of the question and if someone turned up with a crap load of money maybe someone could build a brand new circuit.

Oh, I'm aware of that. But Silverstone is one of the few circuits to turn a profit, and of all the circuits that do make money, they'd have to be one of the best-off. With the sheer popularity of the event, you would think that someone would see that and attempt to establish a second race. Bernie would make his money from circuit fees, and the organisers of the second race would make money from the crowds - assuming they could get enough people going.

All the cars queuing to get out of the pits, just like the punters queuing to get in! The irony of it.

Did anyone else see that replay with Karthikeyan hitting something? There was something small and white on the track. Looked like a bird. I'm probably wrong though. I just caught it out of the corner of my eye.

Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton 1st and 2nd so far, Button's lap was on the softs though.

He probably wasn't going fast enough to hurt it though, it probably saw him coming and casually moved aside.

Looked like a bit of rubbish to me.

Ah. Good. Unfortunately, my only two commentary options in Japan are japanese (obviously) or no commentary. Unfortunate, considering that I can select english commentary for just about every other sport.

RT THIS BREAKING NEWS: There will be a familiar voice back where he belongs in the BBC F1 Commentary box today. #bbcf1 #GuessWho @mrjakehumphrey 8 minutes ago

Murray? :D

You should be able to access this live stream for qualy & race, Australian companies aren't really aware of geo-blocking capabilities (thank goodness, as it's wrong).

The main image should become a video player closer to go time.

Note that Ten/OneHD is a legitimate source/channel, so there's no jiggery pokery going on here.

Except for the commentators. They're morons. We apologise in advance for any brain cells you may lose through repeated palm-related trauma to the face.

Tony Montana? :sly:

Video of Senna's latest screw-up:

He's still maintaining his average of one major episode every other race. I can't imagine he's going to be in the team much longer.

Seriously? On a day like yesterday? Aquaplaning = he's a crasher?

You really have it in for him...

Senna's crash was really unlucky, even Alonso got caught out and damaged his car. Better it happens in practice than in the qualifying/race.

Well I live in Northamptonshire and about 15 minutes ago the heavens opened and it's absolutely hammering it down. Any updates on Silverstone weather for Qually?

Been very bright all morning but has just started raining here so expect a mixed session.
