Hopefully Mclaren can turn it around for tomorrow, really thought they had the pace but it was not to be.

They should compare the telemetry with the other cars to show how much he was pushing, Jean Todt worked at Ferrari for many years so he probably will keep the pole.

Sorry man but what you said is the typical reaction of an angry anti-Ferrari supporter.
Alonso did slow down in 3rd sector. His time could have been way faster than that.

Than he grab the pole. I can understand you, you were so happy seeing Alonso struggling.. and then.. vaseline for you.
This is racing, get over it. Tomorrow is another day.

Of course I'm anti-Ferrari, they are crafty b^%$ :D It's frustrating seeing Alonso struggling to keep it on the track and struggling to get into Q3 and then he gets pole. Canada is the only race this season that I can think of where Alonso was hard done by in terms of the race result, where as Hamilton: Melbourne (safety car), Bahrain (pit stop), Malaysia (pit stop), Shanghai (demoted 5 places for a gearbox problem), Bahrain (pit stop), Monaco (pit stop), Valencia (rammed by an impatitent driver), Catalunya (demoted to 24th from pole).

Must be Todt's fault for all those.
 
My few notes -

1. Don't understand what happened to Hamilton, he was strong all the time, except when it mattered most.

2. Alonso shows once again his worth, nuff said.

3. Webber keeps on with an excellent year (as of one year ago I thought he was "done", glad I was wrong).

4. Massa is indeed doing his job at last (a bit unlucky today but not the disaster we had up to Monaco).

5. Vettel is a still a bit lost, hardly double WDC level of performance.

6. Button was plainly unlucky.

7. Schumacher doing very good, credit to him for not letting his bad luck take out his will to succeede.

By the way, great lap from Alonso. Not his biggest fan (more of a Raikkonen/Button fan hehe), but I have to admit he sure is by far one of the greatest drivers out there.

Yes, he was unlucky. But wasn't he struggling badly (always 1sec+ off the leaders) throughout the session and was forced to put fresh inters on in order to get a decent laptime? It was him or Rosberg, and they both sucked bigtime.

I don't see how these 2 match but English is not my native language so i may be wrong. In order for what you say to make sense he can either be:
1) by far (+) the greatest,
or plainly
2) one of the greatest.

It's basically to say he's one of the greatest, and the gap between that group (not sure who else might be in it) and the next level of drivers is quite large.

Oops sorry perhaps a better way of saying is that he's a driver worthy of legendary status, like A Senna/ M Schumacher/ A Prost etc
 
Well Button wasn't too miffed about it... he said he's used to it by now, and to having to use different strategies, and he now has better tyres for the job than anyone else.

Great day today! I was in the grandstand opposite the pit lane so it was us doing the mexican waves and getting the mechanics too aswell! Everyone booed Maldonado and Charlie Whiting!
 
Incredibly impressed with Alonso's qualifying result, while disappointed for a few who could not squeeze out the proper lap toward the end of sessions. Button and Kobayashi in particular, as both are a joy to watch race in the rain, for different reasons.

So far, this looks to be Alonso's season for getting all the breaks, much the same as Vettel had last year, albeit with a (much) less dominant car. Probably the 4th best car, as a matter of fact. Going to be a very enjoyable race if the wet continues tomorrow. 👍
 
Way to get drenched in mud and rain. Go to qualifying like I did.
It was great though.
I was Bad Luck Brian though. Just at the point where Grosjean spins I look down and miss it when it was right in front of me.

Should be an awesome race but just discovered the Wimbledon final is on at the same time. Not an issue for me but visiting my elderly father, who doesn't have a computer, and will only be able to watch one of the events in full. Also it appears there are no highlights of the GP on BBC later. Fail.

Getting all the breaks? This years Ferrari is well off the pace, Alonso is where he is by shear skill and nothing less. Like Ferrari or the man or not, you would be hard pressed to make a case against his talents.
 
I'm annoyed that Massa was told to slow down and not risk taking the pole from Alonso.
However my mild misery is kind of my fault for forgetting that could happen, but alas I only threw away a tenner. (Massapole was 67:1)

I am an Alonso fan, and I also like Ferrari a bit, but I would have to say that Fernando caught some massive breaks at Valencia. Yes, he had to hang in there to put himself in a position to take advantage of the opportunities, but the DNF's and other events played more of a part in the outcome of that race than his sheer skill alone.
 
I am going to be away from my tv and computer for the entire race, so you guys are my eyes and ears!! I may ask silly questions like "what position is Hamilton in?", but please humor and answer them.

Sat at Stowe B eagerly awaiting a whole day of racing! It rained overnight but is currently dry and overcast with a gentle breeze.
 
That's dedication Peter. There at 8am! I guess there is some GP2 for you to watch, or it could be a long 5 hours.
 
Got up at 6! We've been staying at a B&B 10 minutes drive away and had to park in a muddy field, people have been sleeping in their cars! The GP3 cars just drove round to the grid, we also have GP2, Porsche Supercup, and vintage F1 cars!

I'd happily get up at 6am to watch that. :drool:
 
Went to qualifying yesterday, had to wake up at 5:30 to leave by 6:15.

Got there at 8:57 and aparently they started turning away people at 9:00...

Anyway, sat at the exit of becketts and MAN the cars were exciting in the wet. The Caterhams really thud down the gears, and the Renault powered cars all have a beautiful engine note, as does the McLaren. Funny how on TV you can't tell the difference but in real life the noises are so different and... well, different.

I met up with fellow GTP'er neljack there who I have been doing online racing with for around a year but never met before, so that was nice. :)

Schumacher span infront of me too, which was an added bonus.
