Yep, he was struggling a lot to get a decent qualifying lap. He needs to improve his pace tomorrow, but honestly... I don't think that anything will change.
 
Gutted for Alonso. I actually wanted Hamilton on pole, just so Vettel would start on the dirty side. I'd like to see the winners if they all had equal cars.

Upside for me... Schumacher qualifies 6th (5th)! Talk about getting the most out of a rubbish car! I hope he can make up places tomorrow. P3 would be very very nice...
 
I'm pretty sure Vettel's alternator problems were caused by an overheat or related problem due to Red Bull cramming other things nearby, I'm assuming they've rectified that, so I don't think we'll be fortunate enough to get one of those, but I do think another mechanical issue is quite possible for him during the race.

Alonso in for the drive of his career perhaps, one thing that is on his side is experience, he should have the edge when it comes to 56 laps on a new ( although decreasingly) slippery track.
 
I find it hilarious that Pirelli claim they brought conservative tyres so they didn't get involved deciding the championship - well you've just gone and done that you fools!

Surely if they wanted to stay out of deciding the championship, they should have brought tyres that were consistent with other tracks. But quite clearly thats not the case.
I understand that its difficult for them to make a decision far in advance on this but they don't need to come out with BS excuses like that.

So...your favorite driver (until he wins, because i know people like you) is way ahead from his direct "enemy" for the title and he's probably going to win it easily you STILL hope for bad things for Alonso.
We need less people like you in the f1 world... 👎
 
A lot of people are expecting Red Bull to suffer in 2014 with Renault's engine and ERS but I wouldn't be surprised if RB have chucked loads of money at Renault and RB's 2014 car turns out to be way ahead of everyone else. I miss seeing different teams win the constructors from year to year. :ouch:

However, I fear Vettel will have a retirement here or in Brazil, so it's not over until it's over.

EDIT: Oh, that's going to be interesting tomorrow. Alonso have Grosjean and Maldonado behind him...

Honestly, during the european summer I thought McLaren would finally have a good shot at it. I was a very big fool for thinking so.

I obsess over things being certain. Deal with it. Also, I'm pretty sure 10 points isn't 'way ahead'.
 
Today is yet another day where Alonso's lack of pace shows, and it really demonstrates how much overrated he is.

Massa's pace was consistent and good during all sessions, specially the second where he managed to pull out great laps thanks to gain some temperature on his tires, something he could also have achieved in Q3 but his laps where limited by time, therefore he could not do it. Meanwhile Alonso was struggling with the car, not being able to get good times with exactly the same car, raging to slower cars to then have a clear track and do nothing with it.

So yeah, it shows, no high expectations for Alonso, my hopes goes for Massa, I would not like to see another "Felipe is faster than you", that would be pretty pathetic for Alonso, but then team orders are allowed so anything could happen.

Vettel is exceptional with his laps, as always, so no much to say on that front. A special mention has to be done to Hamilton's laps on Q3, which were pretty damn good, this time around it was pretty close and it shows that he still has a lot to get out of that McLaren (when those McLaren's actually work).

Shame for Button with reliability problems ... yet again, good performance by Schumacher and I want to see a good position for Massa tomorrow, he seems to have the hang of this circuit and it seems that he will be pretty competitive on this circuit.

I was talking about tomorrow's starting grid, 10 points aren't that much but since alonso is starting 8 and vettel is first, and we all now what vettel + free track means.. he's in a perfect situaton.
So, no real need to wish bad thing for the opponent. But this is your style, no real problem with that.
 
Lol. I backed Massa for pole because I had a feel for how things were going to go, I was not surprised at all to see Massa qualify ahead of Alonso today, knowing full well that Alonso is the superior.

I wouldn't say the complete opposite but they do seem do have done similarly well recently. He's not miles off Massa and apparently he couldn't get a good lap in during Q3.

He is overrated but I believe he is still the best driver on the grid when he feels content.

I was wondering that too. In the last 5 races he did some very good things.
Maybe he wants to show that he's still there and not ready to leave Ferrari? 2013 could be an interesting year for him.
 
Ignoring the title fight I really can't see how we've got any hope of a good race tomorrow, it's going to be India 2011 again, a track with one line through most of it and any overtaking opportunities scuppered by no grip off line. I hope I'm wrong but that's what I'm expecting.

I just think the car has been improved a lot (It's not the best clearly but it's not the midfield dog Ferrari would have you believe) and the improvements have really suited Massa and brought his confidence back, Alonso however just isn't getting as much out of it.

Remember 2007-2008 at Ferrari? in 2007 Kimi clearly outperformed Massa and in 2008 it was the other way around.

Outperforming him often? I don't know about that... Korea was the only race where it looked as though he could beat Alonso.

Massa is definitely quick, but he just seem never be able to see an opportunity and grab it with both hands like Alonso does every single race. I guess that could be because strategy wise, Ferrari heavily favor Alonso. Doesn't help that the car is built completely around him.

To some extent, I guess, but that's mostly people continue to say the Ferrari is **** and it's not. Yes, it's not as fast as the Red Bull, but it's not the piece of **** car that we saw in Australia.

And, Hamilton shows once again how good he is. He's not the most complete driver (Alonso), but he's definitely the fastest.

What the **** have McLaren done? This year, they have thrown away a very good shot at both titles AND the fastest driver on the grid. And the mechanical issues continue at this event...

Sort of why I don't like McLaren. They throw away championships, whether they have the best car or best team.

Ok, more then he did earlier in the year. He wasn't even part of the conversation unless we were talking about who was out of a ride but beginning around Spa, he suddenly picked up on his performances.

Interesting tidbit pointed out by Mike Joy: In one On-board lap of Fernando Alonso, 64 Gear Changes. Not that any mere mortal will look into that too much, but fairly mind blowing. Then again, 27 or so corners does sort of guarantee a workout on that gearbox.
