We (GTPlanet) should write a parody of this entitled "I Need A Caution"

I'll start

I need a caution
I'm holding out for a caution 'til the end of the race
It's gotta be wrong, he's gotta be slow
And it's gotta be fresh from pitstops
I need a caution
I'm holding out for a caution 'til the yellow light
It's gotta be unsure, It's gotta be soon
And it's gotta be for debris, debris

There is still a race left and two other drivers are still in mathematical contention, but the deficit from them to Johnson is enormous. Kenseth is 2nd in points but 28 points back!

Jimmie Johnson all but has the trophy in his hands.

Just saw the results and while it still go the other way, I think I've already gotten my decision made :indiff:

Looks like its just Trucks and Nationwide for me (really hoping for Sam to make something happen).

So basically, if Kenseth has any chance of winning, it involves impossible math like JJ finishing 38th and him needing to win, and lead the most laps. (No facts here, I'm making this up.)

Seems as possible as Danica getting a top 5.

Johnson, without leading a lap would need to finish 24th or worse while Kenseth scores max points in order for Kenseth to take the title. Kenseth, to have any chance at the title period, must finish in the top 10.

Barring a highly unlikely car and/or team failure, the 2013 Sprint Cup Champion is Jimmie Johnson. :indiff: *minor tinfoil hat alert* I was probably right in thinking the trophy had been engraved in his name weeks beforehand. *end minor tinfoil hat alert*

Unless JPM says, "Well, what the hell." and takes out Jimmie, yeah you're probably right. I didn't watch the race, did JJ fall out of the top 10 all race, barring green flag pit cycles?

Looking at the points, IF something did happen to kill the 48 early (engine, gear, ICEYOU), if Matt doesn't have a great race, top 15 maybe, Kevin Harvick could pull the rug out from under both of them. He is 34 points back of JJ, but 6 behind Matt. Could it happen? If it does, I'll be laughing until January for how stupid all this has been.

If Matt wants to win, he could always wreck JJ.
-28 points? Gibbs can just get Kyle Busch, Denny Hamiln or one of the other Toyota drivers to take out JJ and the title is his.

Edit: Of course Home Depot could always pay NASCAR...

I somehow think its more likely that NASCAR axes the chase itself than Gibbs being idiotic enough to tell one of his drivers to go wreck Johnson and then NOT get penalized for it.

I went from disappointed about missing Homestead to not really caring considering JJ's name is pretty much engraved on the trophy. Congrats to JJ though, he certainly had to work for it this year.

As impossible as it looks right now, this post is gonna look really silly if Matt or Harvick win it

There have been worse calls.

:p

To all those saying Kenseth can just use Hamlin or Kyle to spin out Jimmie, remember Hendrick is aligned with roughly a quarter of the entire field at Homestead.

Well coach gibbs could just always pay off MWR to do his dirty work...

It's a wonder why the last Cup race I watched was in fact the last race aired on FOX this year. Haven't seen a single one since then, and I don't miss it at all.

This is sports we're talking about. In traditional sports, one athlete or team can just not show up and end up losing. Jimmie Johnson could have a "bad hair day" and end up seeing his championship get yanked away and heading to Matt Kenseth.

Current leaders from the top three series:
* Cup: Jimmie Johnson (2384 pts.)
IN THE HUNT: Matt Kenseth (2356 pts. - owns tie-breaker), Kevin Harvick (2350 pts.)

* Nationwide: Austin Dillon (1148 pts.)
IN THE HUNT: Sam Hornish Jr. (1140 pts.)

* Trucks: Matt Crafton (780 pts.)
IN THE HUNT: Ty Dillon (734 pts.), James Buescher (730 pts.)

The only thing that seems assured is that Matt Crafton will likely be the Trucks champion for 2013, unless he didn't clinch or anything. The best points battle right now will be the one in Nationwide. Only eight points separate Austin Dillon from Sam Hornish Jr.

Anything can happen with the season ending at Homestead this coming weekend.
