For the rest of the world, a 5.8L engine still isn't "ridiculous amounts of displacement" for a performance car.

Rediculous amounts of displacement is like when you get a 460 SVO block and build up to 800+ cubes. That's extreme.


Although with an HO SVO 5.8L you can get it up to a 454 to create nearly 800 horse but most people won't pass the 600 mark.
 
Don't think there's much else to know until Magazines get their hands on one.
 
forget the camaro I want to see this monster go against a ZO6. Poor GM always two steps behind its competion
 
Some info i got from ford.
5.8L supercharged V8 engine – 650 hp
Brembo 6-piston front brakes
Unique front end and aggressive splitter
Aluminum hood with heat extractors
Quad tip rear exit exhaust with new lower fascia applique
Interactive Launch Control
One-piece carbon fiber driveshaft
3.31 axle with TORSEN differential, unique wheels, R-Compound tires,
SVT Engineered Bilstein cockpit-selectable dampers, unique front and rear springs, unique front and rear stabilizer bars
External oil cooler, transmission cooler with pump, differential cooler with pump
Sounds like ford is putting some real work into the handling of the gt500. The launch control is the same as whats used in the Boss 302 which is adjustable to 5000rpms and threw talking with some people at SVT there predicting the 650hp to get you from 0-60 in 3.6/3.8 seconds i asked also about any factory options to increase the hp a little more for us hp freaks and they responded kinda darkly like i was onto something and said no comment so i kept prying for more info and asked about a track key setup like the boss's have and they said it will not feature a track key but something like it to open up added performance i'm really excited to see how this new gt500 handles in comparison to the Boss 302 which after test driving i had to have one which i received about 5 months ago and i have to say after having a 93 Cobra then an 04 cobra the boss is by far my favorite and ford said if i like the boss i'll love the new gt500 that much more so lets hope there onto something they don't want us to no about yet i'll keep posting as i get more info on the gt500

I bet that 60K becomes 80K+ once it shows up on a lot...
I've seen a lot of dealer gouging on Premium Stangs in the past.

Not sure if this was mentioned before, but I read a Mustangs and Fast Fords magazine a few days ago that had a sneak peak of this car, and the redline is officially 7,000rpm.

- 1 piece CF driveshaft is stiff enough to resist vibration at 9000 200mph

- 33% increase in downforce from front fascia/splitter

What a beautiful car, and 650hp? Damn. I've always loved Ford muscle 👍
 
The HP is great for the money.... because its only a Mustang, If Ford actually had a "Exotic" like the Viper or Vette, it wouldnt cost 60k.
 
They had the Ford GT, which I think was somewhere around $150k.

I think the oldest GT500 is still the best one :D
This seems to be heavy, but the engine looks great !

What are the actual kerb/curb(?) weights of the three? I can't seem to find any reliable info... (TIA. V8's preferred)
 
Curb weights:

2013 GT500 = 3,850lbs (Source)
2011 Mustang GT = 3,605lbs (MT / Source)
2012 Camaro SS = 3,849lbs (Source)
2012 Challenger 392 = 4,170lbs (Source)

That weight figure for the Challenger is for the V6 model. SRT8 392 model weights around 4200lbs.

The Corvette Z06 originally retailed for $60K, then $70K, & now $75K, same price as a GT500 Super Snake.

When the Z06 came back in 2000, I remember them going for high 40s.
When I went with my elec. shop teacher in 2000 to pick up his, it ended up being $44k+TTL. Now looking at car and driver, they have a z06 with a sports pack it's 102k. REDONKULUUS.

Sports pack, top level interior, and carbon package all ad up.
