I turned the race on at lap 15 or so, and the first thing I noticed was that Maldonado and Lotterer were both out. Was it bad of me to assume that Lotterer got Maldonado'd?

both Retired due to mechancial issues first lap.

Seemed fairly boring save for the last half dozen laps. That battle for fifth was amazing. Really surprised that Alonso got a penalty at the start. Also, I don't understand why Rosberg was booed so much.

If fans knew Rosberg had that debris flapping about in his face for a few laps (maybe it was only 1?), then perhaps they wouldn't feel the need to boo. I don't agree with it at all, but I suppose I can see their reasoning. But with that crap flying around in his face, what more could you ask for as a way of making things equal?
Yeah Lewis got his revenge there.

I'm amazed that Nico did not get a penalty taking the race leader out to back of grid which I think is enough to justify causing a collision term. Nico is quite calculated in his moves like in Monaco and this race, he likely will come out quite well in both incidents relative to his teammate.

Well done to Daniel Ricciardo on the win and also Valtteri Bottas on podium and good to see Kimi improving 👍.

Stewards have been a bit easy on the racing incidents (rightly so), having seen the incident again, it seems Nico back off before the contact but not enough, misjudgment.

Did Totto just say there will be team orders?, why exactly?

Why should they give him a penalty, it was a minor racing incident really and Lewis was unlucky sadly from it, but we saw harder hits in Hungary that resulted in less damage. I mean some are making it seem like Nico punted Lewis off

Team orders will likely come from whoever leads after the first lap, stays in the lead.

With the amount of speed Advantage Mercedes have, it would be a massive management blunder to allow a rival to sneak a WDC over them.

What ever happened to that debris that was waving around in Rosberg's face? Did they pull it out during a pit stop or did Nico somehow get it in a position that it would stay put?

They could just sack Hamilton and give Susie Wolff the seat :D

If you want to make a case for the biggest show of favortism/nepotism sure. Plus I'm sure people would say she's a better more pretty replacement for Rosberg (or Brittney as they'd say) :sly:.

Anyone remember Lewis's overly aggressive driving in Germany? Almost taking Jenson Button out?

When Nico does it, he gets booed? Same conditions, for both of the drivers. Misjudgement.

I don't know if it has been investigated or not but I would have thought other teams behind would try and get Rosberg a penalty in the race but it seems no one reported it? I think personally it is a crazy move by Nico Rosberg to think he can pass Lewis like that, he was behind going into braking zone with the same car against a late braker, no chance to pass there but obviously in the end it worked out really good for him in the championship but won't go down well in team trying to in a way dive bomb and not back out on lap two of the race.

At least Hamilton's misjudgment didn't take out a driver and ruin that driver's race. Moreover: this was only lap 2 of the race. Why take such risks so early in the race?

Personally I'd take either, shame they're both married. Oh well.

Almost <> Actually. And I think Nico was booed by fans-in-general too, they were robbed of the only truly epic battle of 2014.

Completely different incident, Hamilton said he thought Button was letting him through like he did at Silverstone and although Button initially reacted angrily he later said that he understood why Hamilton made the move.

I like how the biggest controversy is the Nico-Lewis incident. In my view it was pretty simple that it was a tiny misjudgement from Nico, causing both cars to sustain damage. The biggest controversy for me was Magnussen's move on Alonso at the end, forcing him right off the track. It was a far worse move than what Nico did, but because that involved the Mercedes teammates, that is all people are talking about...

Ruining every race for the neutrals then. Merc are so far ahead in the table that one incident in 12 races surely doesn't merit a change.

Misjudgement or perfect calculation?
Looking what he did at Monaco, I wouldn't be surprised.
Rosberg the new Doctor Evil of racing drivers. :)

I think because Ricciardo.

Not justifying what those fans did, but I can understand why they booed; 1. They're both fighting for the world championship and 2. The incident occurred, only, on the second lap of the race. The incident did rob us of a good fight for the championship, they've got a right to be a bit peeved but expressing their emotions in that way probably was about harsh.

Just as Nico said he thought there was a gap, but turned out it wasn't.

He thought he was letting him through, that's the point. Button stayed out for a long time like he had done in the previous race to let Lewis through (Notice the wave of apology from Hamilton to as opposed to compelte denial of the incident and blaming booing specifically on British fans).

As a driver you can't assume the guy infront of you is going to let you pass, JB was going for a good launch out of that turn.

As in Silverstone he made it easier for him to pass. He didn't give him a free position.
