Great game! There was a dead-ish time between minute 10 to minute 20, but from there

"You ever get away with a handball, Thierry?"

"No, never."

:grumpy:

That was brilliant by Linekar though!

England are going to lose. We all know this.

2-1 to Italy now.

Aaaannnnddd its 1-2 Italy....

Whatever the outcome, we're watching a great football match. 👍

Very open game this!

All we can hope for is a draw now, but its probably too late.

It looks like that England is already boiled by the heat. The pace is just gone.

The pace has gone from England and Italy have completely shut the game down. Looks like this will be the full time score.

Pirlo is ridiculously great. God knows who good he will be when he is 45.

That's it....great game, very open, England played well I thought and there are positives, it was a lot better than Kiev in 2012!

I got the feeling that Italy controlled the game, even when England dominated possession.

And he barely runs. He gets the ball, takes 2 steps and gives a brilliant pass.

I have a hard time seeing England in the next round due to this result..

That free-kick by Pirlo was astonishing. Great game this one was.

I'm only an amateur, but to my untrained eye, it looked like England was either taking too long to set their shots up, or not taking long enough. The one goal they did get was timed right, but they just gave Italy too many chances to form up their defence.

They have to beat Uruguay and Costa Rica to go through because I don't think you can qualify with 4 points or fewer..has that happened before??

With England losing, Costa Rica beating Uruguay could have massive significance later on if England lose to Uruguay as well. Here's how I think Group D will finish:

1. Italy 9 points
2. Uruguay 3 points
3. England 3 points
4. Costa Rica 3 points

Presuming it goes on head to head and not GD.

Plenty of times. Just in the last World Cup, it happened 4 times. In 1982, Italy advanced with 3 points (same group format, top two advance).

If Italy and England both beat Costa Rica, they will most likely advance. Uruguay almost need to win out against two very good teams, big ask really.

It can happen in Group D this time. If Italy beat both Uruguay and Costa Rica and England beat Costa Rica but lose to Uruguay, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place will have all won 1 game and therefore all have 3 points and if it's on H2H, each team will have beaten each other and therefore it would go on GD I guess.

Shame we got nothing from the game, i wish we'd just give up on rooney... yes he assisted sturridge but i dont think he'll ever play as good as he did in euro 2004 when he was a kid.
Certain a commentator said equal points were decided by goal diff not h2h.

England played well, I think they'll be fine. Its Uruguay who won't recover from today's loss, especially as Suarez won't be 100% whenever he plays. I'm honestly more worried about Costa Rica at this point.

This is what will make this group very interesting. I mean, will Costa Rica keep playing like that, or was it a one-off?

Fantastic from Honda there. And a facepalm from Drogba

It does not look fun out there - so hot and humid that they're positively gushing with sweat.

Oh, I know that, but when Toure was lining up for his free kick, the camera was close on his face and he was visibly sweating.
