James Allen reporting that three teams (un-named) are considering boycotting the race. Seems unlikely to me. Story is based around the Caterham/Marussia developments and their wider meaning in F1, over in this thread.

So there'll be 17 cars starting on the actual grid, losing 3 teams would make it 11... that's still twice the size of the Indianoplis grid :)

It's Lotus, Sauber and Force India.

Force India, Sauber & Lotus threaten to boycott US Grand Prix as F1 crisis grows. Amazing developments in Austin today.

Lotus are the only team that have dismissed the rumors.

We should probably discuss the overall situation in the Caterham/Marussia thread as it's going to be bigger than this race overall.... but yeah, more credible F1 reporters seem to be picking this up as serious. Bad news.

Pretty certain the whole team boycott thing has been denied...(for this weekend at least)

Might be bad news for the short term but something has to be done about the financial situation and it's not going to change when every team has to agree for anything to happen.

If FI, Sauber and Lotus don't take part this weekend it would perhaps be a good place to take a grid penalty/pit lane start for changing a component.

Wow, those guys boycott the race, in America. 2005 US GP all over again. Way to put on a show for America.

Possibly so but I think people will hang on for Brazil if they can, the likelihood of incidents, SCs and storms are much higher... a better time to go for broke from the back.

That's the point, take the penalty at the US race, and the fresh components will be used in Brazil.

He's saying take the penalty in Brazil when the grid will still probably be low but you'll also have the weather and unpredictability of Brazil to help you out as well as only having 1 more weekend to use your components instead of taking a penalty now and having to use the new components in this race as well as Brazil and Abu Dhabi.

No, they mean that text speak is forbidden by the acceptable use policy.

Anyway, F1 needs to be shaken up. I hope that the troubles the sport is currently facing lead to this.

What they need to do is take the F1 status quot, push it through a shredder...and then take a blank sheet and start over. BIG changes need to be made...and it starts with the FIA having 100% control and Bernie being sent to the racing equivalent of Siberia.

Alright so that's extreme...but F1 needs massive reorganization. Costs need to be cut to a 1/3 of what they are now, politics needs to be cleaned up, and the regulations need hammering down without the gimmicks whether the current teams want them or not.

Plenty of oil under there; can't imagine they'll be too disappointed! :sly:
Interesting how you joke on a matter when it regards the US... but probably wouldn't if this was the British GP. If the teams take this seriously and boycott, the popularity of F1 in the US will drop like it did after Indianapolis 2005.

We get the short end of the stick these days global racing wise. Another troubled and screwed up US GP. Reminds me of the US GP at Indy not even 9 years ago. :(

Dude, it was just a joke. Don't bite my head off! And anyhow the context of it should have been obvious; it was referring to the American government and military. You don't see the average U.S. citizen destabilizing entire regions just to keep the local Texaco going do you? Mind you it wouldn't suprise me if some teams boycotted Silverstone next year! Nobody enjoys getting drenched...

Nico looks to be struggling a bit, he has struggled relative to his team mates in the first 2 race weekends here.
