Bad news I'm afraid. Just watched the opening to Sky's coverage and Brundle said Hamilton cheated at Spain to keep the lead in the race. Hamilton on the track parade bus brought up strategy as his tool to win. Could Mercedes be punishing Nico on purpose?? Brundle also said Rosberg had to changed the clutch. Maybe we're not going to see fireworks after all.

If I was him I'd say Mercedes punished Hamilton on purpose in Catalunya, they over-adjusted his front wing despite his requests (as heard on team radio) which destroyed his front tyres and allowed Nico to close in. I try to ignore him but he knows how to wind people up.

According to Brundle, Hamilton used an engine map that he wasn't allowed to (by the team).

Punishing Nico perhaps because they think he did on purpose. Hamilton implied his strategy will get him in front. I'm curious why he said that.

Wrong.They didn't over adjust the front wing. They were going to, the Hamilton corrected them on the radio before he entered the pits. The message you heard was before he entered the pits.

Nico was closing in before the 2nd stint anyway. Oh and the pitstop time Nico gained is NOTHING compared to what he lost in traffic. Even at the time they both had to clear the same cars, Hamilton got lucky and cleared them on the straight with DRS. Nico didn't get the privilege.

You're hilarious. So when the team tells the drivers NOT to use a certain setting with the engine, and Hamilton defies to stay ahead of Nico, it's not cheating? He apologized for it.

I think I should be the one not wanting to get into another argument with you, really.
 
It's not cheating, just going against the teams wishes.

Vettel in multi-21 gate last year wasn't cheating, just defying the team.

It wasn't unfair, it was allowed under the FIA rules.(I would assume) Mercedes may not have wanted him to use it for a different reason, like stressing the engine, or running close to the fuel flow limit etc.
 
man those comments about Lewis are so off. I've been a fan since he entered F1 and I saw nothing but improvement. Maybe F1 people need to stop reading tabloids and form opinions based on on track performances.

Breaking the rules of the sport is cheating. What Vettel did wasn't cheating, you could call it bad sportsmanship though but that's it.

While I was watching Qually I didn't think Rosberg did it deliberately. Then in the interview he was all smiles until Hamilton was asked a question, which is when I think it dawned on him the real consequence of his mistake.

From the FIA's perspective, he didn't technically cheat. From the team's and viewer's perspectives it's the definition of cheating.

Getting himself disqualified from the season and handing the title to Rosberg is the last thing I want to see.
 
There is nothing in the rules that require drivers to follow "team orders". These orders are non-binding strategy calls. A driver can choose to ignore them if he thinks a different strategy is called for. And, remember, "team orders" meant to control a driver's pace relative to his team-mate were illegal just a few seasons ago.

Just because a boxer uses a different strategy from the one called by his corner, or a team decides to run a zone defense instead of a man-on-man defense doesn't mean they're cheating. It just means they're ignoring team orders. And possibly being poor sports.

And it's neither here nor there. This thread is for the race, let's keep it for the race. If you wish to discuss whether disobeying team orders is cheating, open up a thread for it. This one had been derailed long enough.

It's a striker taking shots instead of passing, as called for by team strategy, in order to get the hat trick, at the expense of the team.

It's a basketball guard who refuses to pass, padding his points total to outdo his team-mates.

Is it cheating? No. Is it being kind of selfish? Why, yes.

Again. Let's take it up some other time. It has nothing to do with this race.
