I see where you're coming from - but personally I prefer on-the-spot punishments for the team (which means their driver) for certain obvious infringements. Applying a points reduction after the race for this kind of offence suddenly makes it less serious, the rule is there to prevent someone being killed on what potentially is a 70mph service road with 11 cars and 100+ soft-bodied personnel. Potentially Ricciardo could have lost the wheel on track (unlikely, but this kind of incident can lead to that) and killed a spectator or track official too.

That's why this penalty should be harsh and immediate. Arguably IRBR put themselves in that position as a team.

I know exactly why the rule is in place and people repeating it as if we who are arguing for more punishment on the teams shoulders and not a sole member of the team don't needed it waved in front of us as we don't know. However, a lot of events can happen and could harm people who work around the circuit. The attempt to try and slow these crews down isn't going to happen and this will happen again and again. It's a form of QC on situation that isn't controllable to that degree, since they are human after all.

I hadn't seen that, it's interesting and it goes to a question someone was asking earlier in this thread (or elsewhere) about why some of the lighter drivers are (supposedly) against changing the weight rule.

@LMSCorvetteGT2 you're right about the human element but the attention that teams give to eliminating human error is directly proportional to the cost of making the error. The bigger the penalty the greater the care. We might have to agree to disagree on this one :D

If Massa stays third until the end. I'm happy. If Bottas move to third, I'm happy too. If Perez gets the podium finish, yeah, I'm happy yeep! Need some 'other' team on the podium.

Mercs are 1.5 seconds a lap faster the rest at the moment.

Darn. Both Force India's getting the best of both Williams', but that was some decent racing between Massa and Perez.
