Best qualy of the year so far, if only all entire championship would be that close.

Kudos to Lewis for a mega lap, and congratulations to the top 5. Shame Raiko had that engine problem, so unlucky today.

They award the championship points tomorrow - and Rosberg can finish second to Hamilton in the next six races and still win the title in Abu Dhabi. One hot lap in Singapore isn't going to win Hamilton the title. Especially when Rosberg's Q2 lap was faster.

No it wasn't. Rosberg did a 45.8 in Q2 and both Mercs did a 45.6 in Q3.

Also if Hamilton wins next 4 races he'll be ahead of Rosberg before the final 2 rounds regardless of where Rosberg finishes.
 
That was a very messy pole lap from Hamilton... really... two messy laps in Q3... lucky for him Rosberg also had his problems.

Q2... doubt it matters much... that was still 2/10ths down on the Q3 time both drivers set, and Hamilton was faster when they both did their first Q2 laps... the track still seems to be rubbering in... so you can only compare laps made back-to-back.

That said... seven hundredths? That's very, very close... if either driver made one less mistake, he'd be a tenth clear.

I imagine both drivers will have to be on the ball come raceday... don't think they can sprint off into the distance over the Red Bulls here, given how scrappy they're going.

I liked how Rosberg casually laughed off the tiny gap [in the debrief] rather than continuing to be frustrated. That's personally how I would try to perceive it. You can only be so serious before it starts hurting you. Gotta learn to enjoy your racing career whether you're at the very top or not.

So bummed for Kimi, especially since so far he was doing great. Curious as to whether it was an engine issue or something with the ERS.

Also was anyone thinking about how last year Ricciardo understeered right in to one of the walls during the race? Didn't notice the commentators on NBC bring it up, but I'm sure it's in the back of his mind.

It's sad watching Alonso's years pass him by without the success he's capable of having. Jenson looks to be reaching the end of his career too with Magnussen showing him up left right and center. The Mercedes are looking very close though, would be nice to see Rosberg challenge Lewis for the lead.

Hamilton's Q1 was faster and Hamilton's combined sectors in Q3 were faster.

@GOTMAXPOWER That looks bad but a few drivers were running right over the kerbs to open up corners, he's turning on astro turf so he probably picked up a bit of understeer and won't be deemed to have gained an advantage.

That's off of turn 2, right? Hamilton locked up on the 1st corner, which made him go wide. Since he ended up losing time, I guess the stewards didn't feel the need to penalize him.

The same thing used to happen to Webber. There's a lot of Australian expats in Singapore, and there's a *lot* of public attention on the sport given Ricciardo's success. He really taps into the Australian sporting mythos of the underdog upstaging his dominant team-mate in an environment that is geared towards Vettel. Between that, his toothy grin, the honey badger story and the "that's how you do it, ladies!" radio call, he's quickly establishing his own mythology in the public consciousness.

One of the more recent complaints among fans worldwide has been that the sport lacks personalities, with the drivers being conservative and following a script set out by the team. Ricciardo is very much the antithesis of that, and I imagine that he gets a similar reception worldwide.

Feel sorry for the guy. There are drivers who've done worse, yet don't get the same cold shoulder. And consider that Nico is/was a relatively likeable driver.

Ricciardo may just be the second driver RBR needs. Or has needed for the past four years! Strange how nationality plays into things. The same boyish antics from Vettel and people would be calling for blood!

Totally agree. There are a lot of Australian ex-pats that reside in Singapore (myself was one formerly), and coupled with his rising popularity amounts to the massive cheers from the crowd. Furthermore, it's also good to see a rugby/Australian football dominated sporting media acknowledge (with increasing frequency) the efforts and the personality of Ricciardo (I'd say, which has been more than the attention Webber did receive)
 
It was a cracking Q.

I'd like to see what Kimi could have done... Poor guy. In his best Q of the season the car let him down.
 
Looks like there are already problems on Rosberg's car.
Seems like something is wrong with the electronics for the steering wheel.

But it's a tough circuit to overtake. A few positions on the grid could make a lot of difference. :)
 
Merc still trying to sort out an electronic glitch on Rosberg's steering wheel.
 
NBC cares more about the monies than they do about making people watch the actual race.
 
Rosburg has issues.
 
Intermittent fault. If he can't pull away he'll have to start from the pits.
 
Seems like Rosberg has to start without electronic help.
