Incredibly this will be Rose’s 12th consecutive appearance at the iconic endurance classic at the infamous 20.8km Nurburgring Nordschleife.

His first came in 2004 when Rose campaigned a Mitsubishi Mirage.

“This will be my 12th consecutive time but I’ve done 13 races there and this will be my fourth time with Aston Martin,” Rose told Speedcafe.com.

Mal Rose (Right) with former Aston Martin CEO Dr Ulrich Bez

“This year is the retirement year of the former Aston Martin CEO Ulrich Bez, so it is a big deal for Aston Martin.

“Dr Bez has actually requested my driving services because he trusts me as a driver.

“It is quite an honour I can’t believe at my age that the boss at Aston Martin would actually suggest that to David King the Aston Martin motorsport manager.

Wait, it only just clicked... WTCC is this weekend? Do tickets for the 24 also cover the WTCC race I wonder?

The official site says that tickets are for N24 only. WTCC is classed as a support and is separate - That will be in the stands on the GP track - what goes on out in the countryside on the other hand . . . .

Hoping this will be broadcast live somewhere here in Australia. If not, it looks like my neighbours will be getting some large Internet bills. ;)

It should be on somewhere here so I won't have to resort to that.

One the most fascinating races of the year in my opinion.

Kazunori Yamauchi in an Aston Martin (also, Chris Harris in the same car), that's interesting :).
Chris Harris?! Woo! That guy is awesome...anybody have a pic of the car?

It has a number plate, that reminds me of another N24h Chris Harris did with an almost completely stock Porsche GT3RS a few years ago (only the fuel tank and some minor parts were changed). They picked the car at Weissach and drove it to the Nurburgring. Number plates off, racing number on and they've managed to finish 13th overall (not in class), a really remarkable result. Then drove the car back to Weissach again, where it has been inspected; the car was perfectly fine, apart from some cosmetic damages which are unavoidable in an N24h.
This is a crappy picture of that very car I took outside the Porsche Museum at Stuttgart:

Hmmm, just checked, the wording is

  • The FIA WTCC is a support race. Tickets are only available for the ADAC Zurich 24h-race.

I'd take that as you can only buy tickets for the N24, and WTCC is included just as most support races normally are.

Got any weather updates?

It's sunny.. with some high level cloud, spotted with rain a bit a few minutes ago, but otherwise dry.

So, I just drove into Adenau and back to pick up some supplies, actually ended up following the WTCC driver parade float!

Anyway, I'm already gobsmacked... Especially when I looked up to bridge corner from the main road into Adenau, it must be 50 feet up and snakes off so steeply in to the trees... and looking up to what I guess is metzgesfeld... the amount of people already setting up the camp-settlements is impressive.

It's unbelieveable to see this stuff first hand, I only know the 'ring from onboards and GT... This place is amazing. I'm a total nooB... So I've pitched up in the first campsite I drove too... I'm between the bridge at the end of the straight and the last corner of the GP circuit, kinda wishing I'd scoped the area out a bit first, would have liked to have been closer to Adenau.. the atmosphere there seems pretty good.... Anyway I'm knackered, been up since 5am UK time, so I'm going to have some biers and chill....

... Sorry for squee'ing like annoying Facebook girl.

Talking about weather, a chance to (re) watch one of the most insane onboard videos of recent years, from 2013 N24h:

That is amazing. The races was stopped for 8 hours after this lap because of the bad weather. We stayed on the grandstand the whole night waiting for the race to restart and got some hours of sleep on our seats. I've been sick the whole week after but it was worth it :D

There are buses between the different locations (Adenauer Forst, GP track, Brünnchen, Karussell...) and they should be free with your ticket. You should have enough time to explore the area ;)

Good to know, ... Gonna check everything out tomorrow.

If you have time, go visit the Fahrerlager and the Ring Boulevard. Also, if you need a warm meal, there is a tent at the end of the pit area (near the petrol station) where you can get a big warm meal for little money ;)

I never thought Kaz would be caught dead racing anything other than a Nissan [GT-R]. Grouped with Chris Harris, I am especially interested in seeing how his team does. I'm assuming those german brothers or whoever they were that ran the GT-R team aren't with him, yes?

Also how is it possible to do that [with a Porsche]? I mean don't you need to do one of those qualifying races to actually race in the 24? I know they do that partly because they want drivers "broken in" with shorter races, and partly because they can't possibly admit every single team interested. Still, that is quite an interesting story, and is part of why I really love racing series like this one, since smaller teams can still race without needly to be grotesquely rich. Still need to be rich, but not rich rich.

Didn't Audi provide a live stream of the race last year? With the official 24 site blocking many viewers out, we really need an alternative.
