People know a GT means V8. ST cars have turbo fours. I see how Ford may be saying look, you had a Focus ST and now you want to upgrade. Before you go full noise in a rumbling V8, maybe Jason(or Molly) would be better in the Mustang ST. Has everything the GT has, just the neighbors wont be woken up when your child starts it up for school in the morning.

My alarm clock is of a Viper revving, your argument is invalid :sly:

Well here's my attempt at an Ecoboost model. It's nothing extreme because I was trying to do a car that would look like Ford could make it.

Didn't expect them to find the limits of factory parts so soon.

Nor did I. But those launches were pretty damn hard on the car, especially since the IRS is much weaker than the old solid axle.

I'll reiterate what I've said from the get-go:

The EcoBoost Mustang should have been called the ST, sold without the massive pony badges, to separate it from the pony car identity. Its proven to be a competent performer, and, still builds a reasonable set of stairs between the three potential ST models for shoppers on a budget.

Looks good. I can already picture it as a road racer.

My bet is the drivestaft. Maybe a U-joint or the base of the splines.

I didn't expect anything to break either, especially considering the car is even heavier than last time. If it were lighter and more efficiently engineered then yeah, I can understand that. But a fatter car should have the strength to back it up.

The half shafts seem to be the weak point but the way that went I'm almost betting the transmission went.

"Mustang Rocket"

Interesting. I can't wait to see how that plays out. Thanks for sharing, hadn't heard of that car up until this point.

Yeah, carbon bodied mustang sounds interesting, i wanna see how much weight they shaved for the mustang. Hope the bodykit isn't too wild.

The body kit is what has me worried. People go wild with Mustangs and often times it becomes too radical for the car and ruins it.

The weight savings should be intersting though. I can't wait to see how much it drops. The current Mustang is an absolute PIG.

Yeah, the bodykits from SEMA got mixed reactions from me, even the best looking ones imo like the RTRs (both the mild looking one and the RTR-X) kinda looks a bit off to me, but i like the Forgiato ones though. I don't know why i just can't see any designs that can go really well with the new mustang. Maybe because it looks a bit like an Aston Martin and AM doesn't go well with bodykits.

But shoppers on a budget would most likely opt for the V6, which has comparable HP figures (300 vs ~305). What exactly makes the EcoBoost Mustang more expensive? Is it due to the 2.3L engine being a brand new engine?

It has ECO in it therefore people have the idea it's more economical. That's draws a premium as does FI.
I'm sure reliability and future repair costs are also built into the price.

Worth noting that the window sticker says 31mpg hwy but it also takes premium gas, which will be a turnoff to many buyers. It may get 6mpg better than the V6 but premium (at the current time anyway) is 85 cents a gallon than regular. I think that is a mistake.

Doesn't the 2.3L use higher quality/more advanced parts than the V6?

Ah yes, the good'ol honest ecoboost mpg claims.

Since premium is like $2.83 right now where I live (and my GTi requires premium anyway) it doesn't bother me. Of course we don't know how long the gas will stay that low in price, but I don't really care either way.

Wait.

It uses premium?

Aww man. This whole time I thought it could run 87. But premium gas prices are on the low range, for now, at least.

I'm sure being a new engine, the 2.3L uses components of a much better quality than that of the V6 engine that has been used since 2011.

That's the price of regular here. $.40-$.50 more here for 93octane. Good thing the winter car takes 87.

Regular is 2.75 here, premium is 3.49. @Grandea GTR i thought it used 87 as well! That's why I was intrigued by it but it turned out too good to be true.

The cheapest price I've seen on gasoline around my town is 2.77.

Regular is $2.53 here. So actually premium may be $2.73, since it's usually a 10 cent jump from 85 to 87 to 91.

We had the $.10 jumps forever until about a year ago, maybe more. Now $.20 is the minimum bump for each grade.

 Regular petrol costs around $7.50 a gallon here.

I haven't seen a <$3 price on a gas tank since like 2009. Probably earlier than that.
