I don't get why people are obsessed to revving to a higher number even if the shift point is lower. Oooooh high numbers. Please, go ride a sport bike.

Broader powerband. Really good for corners. Also too: sound.

The 5.4 in my XR8 only revved to 5400. It was out of breath up high. I didn't need to rev it any higher than 3500-4000. But this, it's on another level as a track machine. I bet a chip will raise that. 9500 in a V8, even if the power drops off, will still be amazing. Who needs an S2000? :)

Plus, I just moved back to NSW and close to Sydney Motorsport Park. That 2016 MX-5 is looking further and further away, now that the Mustang is coming here.

9500 is totally unrealistic. The stock car will likely hit the rev-limiter at 8500. This is a 400lbs*ft of torque engine revving to 8500rpm. This thing will be an absolute beast all over the RPM scale. Linearity is a wonderful thing. I bet it will pull very strong from 3,500 all the way to the rev limiter. That is a *huge* powerband. Almost rotary huge....almost...

I just realized that this regular volume *Ford* production engine that's going into a *Mustang* is not far off of the engine in the Ferrari 458 Italia. It doesn't rev quite as high, and it (probably) doesn't make quite as much peak power, but it makes more torque.

Because the sound of an engine, any engine, singing at 9k+ RPM is SEX to the ears. Rotary, 4AGE, RB, SR20VE, etc, etc, etc.

Some people enjoy that kind of thing. :)
 
What does the Continental Tyres Mustang Boss 302 rev to, about 9000? Im sure someone will get that thing up to 9500 just because someone figured out it can be done.

Just read those are limited to 8000rpm.

Good points. I hadn't considered the utility of having an extra 1000revs to use in the middle of a corner when shifting is difficult.

Why high rev ? Because race car. :D

Seriously though, high revving sounds are music to my ears. 4AGE sounds so good and now this V8 engine has become one of my favourite.
 
When I was a kid my neighbor got one of those nitro RC cars and all of us kids were fascinated. I used to dream about one. It'd have a viper shell with the white and blue stripe paintjob. But I was never a fan of the viper. I got over the RC car thing, but the idea of a really cool car with the white/blue stripes never left me. I used to try drawing my own versions of a fastback (using old mustang/muscle car cues before any of the car companies went retro) with that paint.

The point is... I think this GT350 is the car I was always imagining. Glad it's real.

It might redline there but that doesn't mean it can't be pushed either the oldschool 5.0s were done at 4,000rpm but could rev to 6.

First it must make power. Then, it must rev. More revs allows you to use fewer gears and wider gear ratios. This means you spend less time on track shifting and more time... uh... not shifting.

To given an extreme example, there's the Ranger we were drag-testing last month... which I'm bringing to the dyno for a tune next week... that has a two hundred horsepower diesel but simply can't put down the numbers that the 2.8 Colorado can at the strip.

Too short a powerband... too many gears needed to ensure you can access that powerband over as wide a speed range as possible. I've found that you can launch in second gear and possibly... possibly maybe... shift straight into fourth once you've wrung first out. You fall way out of the powerband at the top of second or the bottom of fourth on that shift, but going two-three-four means you waste an extra few tenths shifting (it's a notchy box). Didn't get time to figure out the best shift points... both methods are slow. :lol:

We're going to see if addressing the power loss at the top end with a tune can allow you to basically skip shift your way down the drag strip.

Its going to be another battle of big pushrod GM torque in the LS7 versus the high-tech Ford V8. I'm interested to see where the power comes on and off with that Ford V8, and my guess is that its much higher on the rev band than the Camaro.

So, here's a question then:

GT350 vs ZL1 in standard trims, and GT350 TP versus Z/28 otherwise? Or do we go with a very competent 1LE against the standard GT350?

Revised track pack against 1LE, GT350 against Z28, GT500 against ZL-1.

Not the EFI ones, Mine made peak power @ 5000rpm bone stock.

That's because they had revised cam specs to work with the new roller setup that the H.Os started with. Up until then, peak HP was at 3,800rpm. Event the roller cam wasn't that hot. 4,800rpm I think was the peak for the EFI motors.

I can't wait til one day the "big jump in performance" is because the car lost 500 pounds. Smaller engine, smaller body, 500 fewer pounds. Maybe by that day I'll be able to afford to buy one.

The Alpha Camaro will be an even larger jump in performance next year.

I thought the Ford Racing website said that the new GT350 will make over 500hp. or were you looking for the exact amount of hp?

Motortrend asked what other car this engine could go into.

I think only a resurrected GT40 would make sense.
 
Well, there are hints the GT resurrecting in LeMans. Engine could be a starting point there.

Probably is going to be a Shelby-only engine. Maybe those Shelby vaporware sports cars have been waiting for this engine all along.
 
It would benefit greatly in the looks department if it was lowered another inch or so. Those tires look absolutely lost inside the wheelwells.

With that said, I'd have one of those over a ZL1/Z28/Chall-cat, even over an M4. It looks the part, it sounds the part... and the best thing about it, compared to its two American rivals, is that I can see out of it, it doesn't feel like I'm sitting in a coffin with a letterbox opening, which is pretty nice. So, where do I sign?
