The only thing this hurts would be Models and their agencies.

Which is funny because its not as if its a dying business.

That depends, if all Male dominated sports do this then it would probably be devistating to the model business.

Keep in mind I doubt grid girls are getting paid anything close to what some would call wealthy.

I hate to say it but it kinda is... sexist.. I wouldn't be talking to Grid Boys... But there are women in motorsport that have a grid boy.. So it's not that stereotypical.

But I'm really not the prude type and so isn't my gf. I know for a fact she would melt when seeing a grid full with grid guys. Actually for grid girls too. She sometimes make me look at other women behinds. She almost likes them more than I do.

Honda had a little fun at BTCC Silverstone last year, replacing the grid girls with grid boys.

Also guaranteed - if motorsports was primarily women drivers, then it all be grid boys and grid girls be considered a bit odd. It's a gender thing, nothing especially unusual.

Oh no. They've make (Insert #starters here) ladies unemployed. The really excellent thing is that they are going to line the cars up at an angle for the start of the warm up lap like they used to before grid starts happened.

Is anyone here attending the opening round of the championship at Silverstone next weekend? I'll be there and it'd be great to meet a few of you!

It's that jimmy carr joke isnt it. It's a post modern misogyny, a joke steeped in irony, so don't you worry your pretty little head. A bunch of men went ahead and made a decision what would most benefit women.

The only thing grid girls show is that to be a model you need to be pretty. Now people like Carmen Jorda or Susie Wolff, now they show that to get racing you have to be pretty and boyfriends in high places dont hurt either. Now that's bad role models right there.

Personally, I've never paid much attention to grid girls, but it's not like they are being forced to do it and it's far from demeaning.

Pathetic. Feminists doing what they usually do. Ruining things... If only they'd drop dead.

I think the funniest part is that there will now be quite a few females that are now unemployed.:odd:

My understanding is that this decision was made nearly a year ago after last year's debacle where some of the girls taken to hospital with symptoms of pneumonia after standing in 8 Celsius, 17 kph wind and 90% humidity without adequate clothing.

Its quite clear that the concept is outdated, with a fair number of series moving to the model of 'Grid Kids' or mascots, similar to football (soccer), where a child (accompanied by an adult) can win the chance to experience the grid and talk to the driver(s) of the car they are representing.

This political correctness takes all the fun out of life.
Is your life so sad, that you need some unappropriate clothed women standing beside racing cars on TV?
If you need it so desperately, I could link you some porn sites....

Andre lotterer needs to wear more appropriate clothes!! What's with them jeans?

For the girls that model professionally it's just a job, for the girls that do it for a bit of extra money at the weekend it helps with other things. Of the grid girls I've been 'Facebook friends' with one was on babestation for a bit, one is a single parent, one organises grid girls and the like, one was at uni, one started her own business and two of the others were involved with either the teams or sponsors personally - only one was a 'pro'. They seem to have a great time, and at the end of the day they do generate interest, and they are there for a bit of harmless fun - you see more inappropriate flesh on a night out in any town or city.

To be honest, i think people like yourself that want everything arranged so it doesn't offend anybody are the sad kind.

Who said anything about political correctness or trying not to offend anybody? I don't like seeing grid girls - or models at car shows - because they get in the way. If I wanted to see women wearing not a lot, I'd go to a club or something.

 Yes indeed, that's exactly the reason why they got rid of them...

In case you missed it first time round:

I sure as hell didn't, @Roo gave it as his example.
You trying to gang up on me?

How am I ganging up on you? I just asked a question. Roo just gave his reason why he didn't like Grid Girls so I didn't see how that was somehow a reason.

Anyhow you know i was just being sarcastic as Roo's personal reason has no relevance to why they decided to dump the grid girls. Hence that's not a very good example to demonstrate that the decision wasn't made because of political correctness (like i and many others suspect).

The 'they got pneumonia' reason is a better excuse, but like i said just dress the girls adequately when it is cold and windy. No reason to cancel the whole show for that, and i bet it works in the girls disadvantage as it takes away their job. So like i said that excuse sounds like BS to me.
