Porsche have blitzed the show. They're pulling off a 2014 Toyota. Toyota seem to be pulling off a 2014 Audi. Audi seem to be pulling off a 2014 Porsche.

Circles, eh.

If they are still going to use the high downforce package for the race, then they'll still be slower than Audi and Porsche.

In his first race in a Super Formula car.
That's precisely why it's a decent analogue. If Kazuki doesn't recover in time, Le Mans would be Kobayashi's first race in an LMP1 car.
If you did some reading up, his car had a bad start and iirc, the anti stall kicked in. He dropped 2 or 3 places. He ended up being 13th but drove his way back up.
I don't really know if I would call that driving his way back up. He fell to 12th at the end of lap 1, and only dropped back further to 13th when Izawa passed him on track a few laps later. Kamui finished 9th after he overtook Baguette through the pit stops and Kogure, Rossiter and Yamamoto retired from positions further up the order.

I just finished watching qualifying and even though I was not expecting much from Toyota I was disappointed in just how far off the pace they were. The low downforce spec car needs to be a big step forward otherwise the defence of their WEC titles wil be over before we know it. The LMP1 pecking is completely mixed up compared to last year.

You cant use qualifying pace for a basis on race pace. Porsche cant use all that hybrid in the race each lap, no one can. We have to see about tire wear too. Plus if it rains, all what we seen is thrown out the window except for fp2. Fast laps are good, but if you cant keep it up through the stint, its not going to win the race.

Toyota seem to think so. They usually run a very fast stint (which is why they have been beaten by Audi on tires) and get out a decent lead. I think their idea at Le Mans is to hurry and a crush the enemy and then slowly stomp out the rest of the resistance. In other words build up a lead and then worry about the losses due to the build up by winning other smaller battles.

The cars are gorgeous on the grid in the staggered formation.

So, Yannick Dalmas in the driver's seat of the Audi pace car. Ironic, for a former Porsche driver to be in the front of a field with three Porsches on the first three positions...

I'm so excited.... and can't really hide it indeed. :D
So thrilled for the race, of the pinnacle of motorsport!

The LMP1's are just gone!!!! What a close start!!!
