So what is the life expectancy of Audi's LMP program?

Certainly will be hard justifying Diesel, and then to run two gas LMPs in VWAG is excessive.

Most people don't symbolize Audi diesel with VW...most people I talk to don't even realize their cars are shared components.

I think anyone who knows what an Audi Lmp car is likely knows that Audi and VW are one and the same company. And really, if VW needs to save costs for the impending legal storm, removing the flagbearer for TDI would seem wise. At least switching to gasoline.

Has nobody noticed the fact that it has been reported Audi has been planning on a switch to petrol for 2017 or 2018 since this year began? Even before this issue arose Audi's been planning it. This just may accelerate those plans.

Yes true, but those people aren't questioning the technology (at least from what I see) in an LMP car to the heavy governmental restrictions of a road car. Those usually questioning to buy a car in large, also aren't WEC fans and thus why I said what I said. The people concerned about the viability of VW are the average car person, not the WEC fan. If cost is an issue then getting rid of both teams is the solution, but you're talking about image it seems.

"Hey look how awesome TDI is in our race car! This technology translates to the cars we make on the road! Go out to your local VW and Audi dealer to bu-- oh... Right..."

Not to mention the near apocalyptic financial meltdown their company has been going through as a result. While the likelihood of being fined the full $18 BILLION penalty they face in the US is slim, they still face penalties from almost every other country they sell cars in that gives a damn about emissions. Then you add up the pissed off customers, the cost of refitting their cars, and the huge uphill battle they now face with every customer in brand perception says to me that the last thing they should be doing is funding a racecar program that uses the very fuel and tech that landed them in this situation.

Once again I've only ever seen the correlation made to Audi and never VW and if you can show me something otherwise that's great, I'll accept it. However, what Audi and Joest do has nothing to do with what VW engineers and bosses were doing behind the doors to game emissions tests. As I said you seem to be talking about an Image and Marketing problem which in reality doesn't really matter to what gets done in the race operation of things. Hell they could keep winning races and neglect to see what powered them to victory.

It's the same thing many other manufactures do when you go to a dealership or see a commercial from them.

The point I'm saying is, people aren't going out to buy VW cause Joest-Audi won several 24 hour of Le Mans in a decade plus, nor do most people realize the connection if any when the average buyer goes to purchase. And in reality the probably don't care. It might be an interesting factoid given by the guy trying to sell them the car, but it wasn't what got them at the door step. So once again why should Joest-Audi change what works for them over a VW (mainly) crisis.

Lastly you seem irritated at VAG in general in the way you've posted, and I've come to respect your comments in my time here ( still do) but really if you are irritated at them, not sure what that brings to this conversation. Why not fund such programs, the very programs that you seem to believe help them sell VWs could be manipulated into showing that through racing they're fixing what got them in trouble and when they win it goes to prove them right or whatever manipulative spin. Point in Marketing can be twisted into whatever.

My main point is what I've already said above though on this.

That was kind of a given, though. CoTA and Fuji were the only two they could've even considered turning up to.

Graham Goodwin just said they are doing the Hybrid system in house now instead of buying it from Amazon. (He didnt say Amazon, that was me.:D)

The whole project might end up on Ebay soon enough. Put a Sentra Vin tag on it and its a used 2015 Nissan with low miles.

PR stunt pure and simple. Anyway wasn't the reason for front engine because of aero? Something to do with venturi tunnels from the front? What is it we saw on the Audi at Spa? Something similar?

If they do it properly with the engine in the middle and the correct pair of wheels driven maybe we'll see them again.

Yeah the "idea" was to allow the entire rear of the car to house a massive diffuser, large venturi tunnels and allow more hybrid assist (well actually that bit is the apparent reason for FWD). I guess in short the concept was to be high aero, but low drag.
