I'm usually not into matte colors. Then too, it does look pretty good seeing a matte black stock car. I think some team that races a Camaro in Pirelli World Challenge has a matte black color style. Also, I wouldn't be offended if there was a car painted up like Ken Block's colorful, starry sky Ford Fiesta in Global Rallycross. I can appreciate that as someone inspired by stars and space. If there was a car colored like that Ken Block starry GRC Ford Fiesta in NASCAR, it would probably seem out of place and unusual.

I am going to have a tough time seeing a #24 car in Cup either not with rainbow colors or with flames. And as much I love blue and gold as a color combination, I do like the somewhat minimal NAPA colors for that #24 car. I still think Jeff Gordon needs to rock those rainbow colors the rest of the season for his ride before he ultimately hangs it up. But still, it will be strange seeing a different-style #24 car. Especially when it was Jeff Gordon who even got me interested in NASCAR, it will be completely different following the same number... but with a different paint style and a different driver.

Its gonna be really strange not seeing Jeff Gordon in a car next year. Of all the number/driver combinations, I think that one has lasted the longest (and might be the only one that actually lasted from that driver's rookie season to their final season).

I can see why people don't like the Monster cars but lets face it, it's all about brand identity. Matte black with a hint of green on a racecar and you instantly knew it was a Monster car.

Same way with the old #3 and possibly the #48 or #24. You instantly knew what the sponsor was on the car.

Assuming Truex keeps his scheme (they are looking for more sponsorship other than Denver Mattress, so who knows if it will stay), Busch will make it two strong contending matte black cars next year. Unlike others, I'm sure, I actually like matte colors on cars, especially when it's black.

Matte Black is best Matte.

Right, Matte?

In video #3 (1993), skip to 1:00:07 to see Jimmy Horton leave the track! :scared:

Also, skip to 2:00:07 to see Neil Bonnet take down the fence. This led to a LONG red-flag delay while they repaired the catch-fence. During this delay, CBS showed coverage of the Tour de France. Thankfully, that wasn't included here.

In honor of Throwback Thursday, here are classic Talladega races that were not single-file parades like the last few have been:

👍

Holy crap Mike Joy has changed

You know, to be honest, I think Daytona and Talladega are great for high-speed racing. However, I tend to enjoy really long intermediate tracks more for actual racing. That's why I like tracks like Michigan and California (or Auto Club Speedway these days) more than I do Daytona or Talladega. Don't forget Indy also. Not to open up another can of worms (so to speak), but the nature of Daytona and Talladega is why you won't be seeing stuff like the IndyCar Series on these tracks, even if they put in all kinds of serious downforce and safety enhancements for them to race around those who ovals.

What would be crazy is if Talladega gets raced, then you race Barber Motorsports Park. Hey- you get to stay in Alabama! You just race a track not too far from Talladega. I'm sure this would probably never happen.

So I was watching a K&N Pro series race and noticed something.

Notice something...different?

Less freedom color stripes on the bottom. :sly:

You guys are trolling me, aren't you?

Ok, just look at the number. Don't you find it interesting that considering whats happening to the team they are partnered with, this change has happened?

I could have said that it didn't say NAPA Shocks and Struts! :sly:

I did notice the JGR font of the 20, but I never said it because I thought someone else would say it.

Not to mention Stan Smith almost dying due to head injuries. I hate Daytona and Talledega. But if dangerous and stupid racing is everyone's bag than whatever.
Yet he was the one most injured in a wreck that was overshadowed by the other car.

One of those videos have the most WTF sub of all time, where a dead Davey Allison is replaced at his home track with..... Robby Gordon? In 1993?!

Are they partnered with JGR, or are they just using a NASCAR stock number?

That's basically what I'm wondering. Since JGR is now the remaining main Toyota team, maybe that partnership has come about with MWR soon to be gone. Everytime a JGR style numbered car has raced, a JGR driver was in it and there's also the fact that BMR has also been Gibb's Partner when it came to the Drive for diversity program (under the name "Revolution Racing")

Tony Stewart's barrel-rolling wreck in the 2001 Daytona 500 looked worse than Dale's fatal crash.

I'm kind of shocked to see that Fox didn't put the race on FS1 and put a college football game on Fox instead. Seeing the race on Fox itself was a pleasant surprise.
