2015 NASCAR Thread - And then there was 1

What happens when you put 30+ NASCAR stock Trucks or 40+ NASCAR stock cars around Talladega Superspeedway? Well, you're about to find out this week what happens. A fitting expression to use for racing at Talladega is- "all bets are off." Considering the wild card nature of tracks like Daytona and Talladega, ANYBODY can win. And really, you survive Talladega rather than win there, let's be honest.

Now on to my thoughts on "Sliced Bread" taking out Matt Kenseth at Kansas this past weekend. I don't in any way condone Joey Logano for his hit on the #20 Dollar General Toyota Camry. Logano didn't need to rough him up like that. Whatever happened to racing somebody straight up? And then to do this with about five laps to go? This, methinks, speaks to desparation and impatience. Even if it was on the final lap, have SOME patience trying to pull a pass. The impatience by Logano was atrocious. This was much worse than that XFINITY race at Mid-Ohio earlier this year and how that one ended. Part of me says NASCAR probably won't even go as far as a slap on the wrist on Joey Logano. Matt Kenseth got done wrong.


At least... this is how I see things. To each his/her own. Anyhow, get ready for Talladega this weekend!

Logano actually got more damage out of it, the right side of his car was scratched up when Matt checked him into the wall.

It wasn't (I'm sure you know though) and when the restart happened, no one was close to him after so.

The move by Matt was stupid and he had it coming.

Like you say, to each their own, but NASCAR can't do anything about this to either of the drivers because they only encourage it.

And @catamount39, I'm sure Bernie wouldn't accept anyone crashing anyone in a sport where there exists an award for most passes during the season, but Bernie is worse more so on the political side of the sport... Even how acquired the rights and licenses to broadcast it in Japan..
 
As someone who severely dislikes either driver and who's season has basically gone down the crapper. (Lets face it Gordon's gonna get eliminated, and Jr won't make it unless he wins and even then I'm not sure.) I'm honestly sick of everybody fighting over who is responsible or what constitutes "proper" driving or not. Save that crap for the F1, sportscar, or Indycar forums. As long as no one's injured, dead, or a dozen unrelated cars got taken out, let it go and move on everybody. I'd be the first to do the same if it was my driver. and I watch rallycross and short course racing where no one cares about running into each other
 
I'm sure Kenseth will be waiting for the right moment to pay Joey back. It's obvious when he said what Joey did "wasn't strategically smart".

I would laugh so hard if that happened, and it would be absolutely comical if BK and Jeff Gordon rush into the fight that would ensue to try to keep the peace. I also bet half the casuals would cheer like mad if that incident resulted in Dale Jr. winning the race and championship.
 
Kenseth is way too classy for that. Anyone else and the 22 would be done. Matt is probably the most level headed guy out there. Now watch him spin him to prove me wrong lol

Not sure what you're railing about. That's simply demonstrating that even the most reserved has a trigger button. Whether he'll actually do anything to Logano, guess we'll see.

On that incident in particular, who wouldn't jump at the chance to go after Brad?

I had just come from reading about Brian France "Endorsing" what Joey did (Which already infuriated me) and I guess I misunderstood your post. I'm honestly pondering whether I should stop watching because I just am becoming increasingly disgusted this year, more so then I have before and reading that has just gotten me to point where I'm just ready to turn it off (A shame too because for once, I'm watching this on a network that isn't second rate in its coverage and I'm not having to hear "Incredible" or "Opportunity" over and over again) .

Oh I'm sure many would have and that night wanted to since he pissed off at least 3 drivers that night.

In the case of Logano he probably should have just done a day of thunder and wrecked Joey after the four tire change. Cause the only time it'd be effective to ruin Joey is two weeks from now, not next week.
 
I still can't see why Logano's move is so wrong. I'm all for bumps and runs, and sometimes a little dump between the drivers. Hey, at least that shows the drivers have emotions. Isn't one of those things we all want to see, that the drivers, even though are doing something we all dream of, are somewhat like us? haha

I'm not sure about everyone else but I wouldn't deliberately dump someone at Turn 1 at a fast speedway. If Kenseth's car had hooked and went straight into the SAFER barrier, we'd be having a different conversation.

Maybe you have heard of this guy named Earnhardt (Sr. not Jr.), drove a black #3 car, they called him the "Intimidator" ?
Like it or not, agree with it or not, Brian was right, what we saw Sunday was quintessential NASCAR...always has been, always will be. There are other racing series that discourage such things if you wish.
