Thank goodness for the HANS device, the improved seat belts, and the newer car that all prevented Kyle from getting far worse injuries.

🤬. *Sigh* At least it was only a leg injury. Could have been much worse. Now who am I supposed to root for...any other JGR car I guess.

I believe NASCAR rules prevent Suarez being a usable sub for Kyle as he's a rookie since it's a last-minute sub and he would have no time to practice the car, so the sub has to be someone with experience in the series. That pretty much leaves anyone who is still at the track or DNQ'd earlier this week.

More like how many feet after the start/finish line does he lose the draft?
Pace laps. Doesn't even get to S/F line for the green flag and he's off the pace.

Maybe Kevin Conway? He'd be cheaper and pretty much would do the same thing.

EDIT: Reports are Matt Crafton will be driving the 18 tomorrow.

At least they are doing something, but if a car hits that, we're going to see something like Newman's wreck at Watkins Glen. Hopefully safer barriers will be all around the track by the Coke Zero 400.
Before I saw that article, I made this map showing where safer barriers are (light green) and where they need to be (red), Orange is in the corners where they could be added.

The pit wall could have safer barriers if there was a sheet of metal placed on top of the wall so that pit crew members wouldn't get their legs stuck between the hollow steel and concrete.

Reports from ESPN sources are saying that Kyle Busch will be out for 5-6 months due to a compound fracture.

If he comes back this year, and wins a race, would NASCAR grant him a waiver? Probably not, but food for thought

Wow, gonna be an interesting season without the Busch brothers, that's for sure. Also doesn't help that KyBu is out, I was rootin' for him :indiff:

So what's the deal now with the #18 and #41?

For the 500, but what about after that?

Would they have to find replacement drivers or just keep those shops on a part-time basis?

They already have the 18 sponsored the whole season so they will need to find a driver. SHR on the other hand runs the #41 out of pocket so they may not run it again until Kurt comes back.

This entire scenario made me remember this one post on r/nascar:

Obviously it's nothing stupid that Kyle did but more so something out of his control, but seeing as how Mark Martin did during his first year at Hendrick... :sly:

I am anything but a Kyle Busch fan but that's a real shame. Boggles my mind that there was no barriers in that spot, especially how often we have cars spinning there.

Any time Keselowski/Team Penske doesn't win is a good day for me. Sad that Chase Elliott got involved in that big wreck before the end of the race, otherwise he could've gotten a top 10 position.

Yes, but these are wholly different situations. One was an issue with a violation of sanctioning body rules, the other is a legal matter regarding potential physical abuse.

Bottom line, Busch wasn't happy to see her and snapped, what he did was wrong, but I don't think this suspension fits the crime. This was domestic abuse, but from what it sounds like, he wasn't going out of his way to cause her great bodily harm. I believe the described action in question is one of the reasons that this whole case has been so back and forth. It'd be entirely different if she had been punched or kicked, since the bruises would be much more apparent considering some have claimed she showed no marks from this. If only I were a fly on the wall...

And Driscoll's comments on the court ruling bugged me as well. I respect that domestic abuse is a huge problem that needs to be dealt with, but from what has been said, she's had it comparatively easy to many women who suffer much, much worst. She didn't live with him, she didn't rely on him as an income, he was always out and around the country so it's not like she was being held hostage. Sure this happened and it's terrible, but she really over-victimized herself in her response to the ruling. That doesn't disqualify her as being a voice to represent those women who don't have one, but it doesn't help me to take her seriously.

Oh I'm on neither side, I'm just saying the Indy race body needs people as viewership dwindles and a big name with such publicity would help their image. As for he said she said. I think they're both idiots, him for being the over aggressive person he has been, even if he didn't do anything his persona up to that point didn't help him doesn't mean he should have to pay but it the whole told you so aspect. As for her, she seems to be a person that either wants attention or wants attention at the price of someones career, could she have been actually hurt? Sure. But the extent of making sure this was a major sport headline for so long...makes it questionable.

Did I miss something with this Kurt Busch thing?

There was evidence to back up the NFL suspensions. One NFL player was on video knocking his girlfriend out cold. The other NFL player's kid had welts, and the player admitted to not sparing the rod, with a switch.

Is there some evidence against Kurt Busch that I am missing? Are there photos of, or witnesses to, bruises, bumps on the head, anything?

I must be missing some key story, because I can not believe that Kurt would be suspended just because 'she said'.
