Erik Jones to run a full time Xfinity schedule next year and some Cup races. Wonder if Hamlin is getting the boot soon?
A lot of people have been speculating him going to Furniture Row Racing sometime in his career, which I would be completely fine with. However, I don't think that will be until 2017.

Pretty much anyone who debuted prior to 2003 is near the end of their careers if age is used as a benchmark.

This weekend will involve XFINITY and Cup around a track that once hosted the F1 United States Grand Prix- Watkins Glen International. So if you don't like road racing, skip this weekend entirely. I do like Watkins Glen. However, Sears Point (Sonoma Raceway) is more exciting to race. The thing I do like about Watkins Glen is how smooth and fast it is to race. I may even go as far as to say maybe Watkins Glen should be a Chase venue, replacing New Hampshire. Or make it interesting- 1st race at Watkins Glen on the stock car configuration, then 2nd race at Watkins Glen using the full course (with the "boot"). Anyhow, it's time to go road racing again! This is the first of three road courses this month for the XFINITY Series.

Speaking of road racers... happy birthday to one of NASCAR's best road racers, and the one who got me into NASCAR- Jeff Gordon! He's 44 today, yet I still think of him as that scrappy late-20s kid that can win races in his rainbow-colored Chevy. What would you give as a birthday gift to Jeff Gordon?

ICYMI it's also Kurt Busch's birthday...

Anyhoo, to be completely honest, I like Watkin's Glen more than Sonoma. (HOLD YOUR PITCHFORKS!) Sonoma, or Sear's Point, whichever you prefer, just does seem big enough for these 3000+ pound cars, and some parts hardly seem wide enough for them. Take the esses for example: we see cars running off their all the time, weather it be running wide or someone clipping a turn too much, that plows them right into another car.

Call me crazy, but I think The Glen is better suited for these cars than Sonoma.

Sonoma is an open wheel track. Cars have outgrown it.

"Too many Florida races"

On a schedule that once had three California races (Two at Auto Club, One at Sonoma)

Yeah, I hardly see a race at Three different tracks in one state as "Too many" in comparison to what we previously had.

And Florida already has 3 races, like California did.

Only one state has more races (Virginia).

Which makes the "Too many Florida races" statement ridiculous since no one appears to have the same issue with there being four races in that state.

It hurts my feelings that NC is already under that number when they used to have 6 races per year not that long ago.
  • Rockingham x2
  • North Wilkesboro x2
  • Charlotte x2 (plus one non-points race)

At the same time of this situation, the states of Texas and Illinois had 0. Virginia has had the longest and most stable amount of races. It's been at least 30 years I believe since they had something other than 4 races in a year.

It wouldn't bother me if they took Fontana out of the schedule even though I get free tickets and go every year. Fontana sucks.

I don't think Chicagoland could be called a cookie cutter since there's not another track like it, aside from it being 1.5 miles.
