Congrats to Erik Jones. On to Xfinity and Cup. For the first time since I've been a Kyle Busch fan (2008), I really feel like he has a legitimate shot. I've seen him make the chase numerous times just to succumb to pressure. I think he is hungry. Probably more than ever before. He's not easy to get around for sure. Where the hell did Jeff Gordon come from today? He was sitting outside the cut line in round one of qualifying. Starting 5th. Very impressive. Truex has been extremely impressive this year. Good luck to him. Harvick can kiss my ass for all I care. #anyonebutharvick

I'm just stunned. Gordon had all the looks of someone that wasn't going to do much and then out of nowhere, he manages to pull that off.

The incar camera told the story. He was sawing on the wheel hard. I don't think he has a very good car. Of course, I've been wrong many times this year lol. Looked like he did that out of sheer will power.

Cheers, Erik Jones! 19 years old and proven to have everything it takes to be a superstar against a tough bunch of NASCAR Truck drivers. Onward and upwards. I only saw mostly the final seven or so laps of the Trucks race at Homestead. I had some interest when RACECAR mentioned that Erik Jones could win Rookie of the Year AND the Trucks championship in the same race.

Once again to Erik Jones... congratulations and cheers, mate! You did good all season. REAL good. 👍

When I was 19, I was sitting on my ass wondering what I would be doing with my life. Erik Jones is 19 and just won a championship. Where the hell did I go wrong in life?

You are starting too late, I was racing 80cc moto-X at 8 years old...in 1970! Man, I feel old...thanks a lot guys :sly:

Not to disrespect the kid or anything, but Erik Jones is definitely not a rookie champion. He already had 12 starts last year while competing for series points. Sure, he's full-time for the first time, but not eligible for ROTY under the very clear rules (must have 7 or less starts in any previous season).

They changed the ROTY system a few years ago. Sorry to tell you, he's ROTY and Champion.

Congratulations #4-Erik Jones
2015 Camping World Truck Series Champion
2015 Rookie of the Year

From 2013 when the rule was changed. I know the link is for Cup Series, but the rule is the same for all 3 series.

NOTES: the rule used to be that once a driver ran more then seven races in a season, they were not eligible for Rookie of the Year, but the rules changed when NASCAR required drivers to declare which series to accrue points for during the season

http://www.jayski.com/news/stats/2013/story/_/page/2013-NASCAR-Sprint-Cup-Sunoco-Rookie-of-the-Year

Rookie rules for the two lower series are unclear, and I can't find why Erik Jones was still eligible, but the only guess I can make is that he didn't run enough races to lose eligibility since 14 CWTS races are counted towards rookie points.

I think they raised the race limit super high, to like 40 before the driver's first full season

Either way, NASCAR's inconsistency with rookie rules still baffles me. Not like I shouldn't expect NASCAR not to be inconsistent, but seriously... why did Erik Jones count as ROTY here, but Ted Musgrave didn't in 2001? Or Robert Pressley in 2002, having never done a truck race before in his life?

Yes, they were ex-Cup drivers... but then Johnny Sauter got awarded ROTY no problem in '09.

The 2009 Camping World Truck Series Rookie of the Year was Johnny Sauter, who was a veteran of both the Nationwide Series and Sprint Cup Series. He had never run more than three truck races in any previous season, and made no 2009 starts at all in either of the two higher-level series, hence he was eligible for the truck series' rookie award. The 2006 Nationwide Series RoTY runner-up John Andretti was a veteran of the Cup Series but had made only one prior Nationwide Series start, making him eligible for the award.

Edit: Musgrave had run 3 races prior to 2001 in the Truck Series. Pressley ran full Cup Series in 2001 prior to moving to Trucks in 2002.

This isn't NASCAR being inconsistent, this is you not understanding the rules.

How was Musgrave any different from Andretti, with as few as 3 prior truck starts?

He had 1 Cup start in 2001, but that wasn't a scheduled one, as he was just filling in. As for Pressley, he did start the 2002 Daytona 500, though I can't tell if he was ever meant to go full-time in the dying Melling team.

NBC came back to homestead after 2 minutes of commercials to inform about the caution, only to go back to commercials 20 secs later. Really?! :ouch:

Would you rather miss laps under caution now or green flag laps at the end of the race

Please not the last laps. Not after what faux did earlier this year with the trucks with 8 to go when they were at canadian tire motorsports park

They should just stay in commercial during the entire caution, and then be able to run the entire green parts of the race commercial free. Give the pit results and replays afterwords in a side-by-side with the race.

Repeat of last night, my favorite driver wins the race but the guy I was hoping to win the championship didn't win it. But both champions are young and likely have a pretty bright future ahead of them.

Good race from Larson. He was up there all day and when Austin got into the wall, he was close enough to take the lead.
