The new "WRX STI Hikari Edition" is on Subaru Canada's website. It's basically a Sport Package STI with the HyperBlue paint we first saw in the HyperBlue special edition in the US, some blacked out trim, blacked out BBS wheels from the Sport-tech model, blue interior trim, and, uh, that's about it. It costs $1,100 more than the Sport package which is a tad much if you asked me given that it's not much of an upgrade over the Sport model.

Well, it was a foregone conclusion (probably), but this likely marks the end of the EJ engine, forever.

Here's an article describing it: https://www.motorauthority.com/news/1125218_subaru-wrx-sti-ej20-final-edition-announced-for-japan

tl;dr: nothing all that special, really.

Sounds like for the time being, the EJ257 is not confirmed to be retired (yet). It sure is a sign that the end is near, though:
"WRX STI models with EJ20 engines are currently sold in Japan only. STI models sold in overseas markets are powered by different types of engines and production of those engines will continue," Subaru said in its announcement.

Yeah, it certainly seems like the beginning of the end. I'd imagine the EJ257 to follow suit very shortly. I'll be dammed if the next generation STI keeps the EJ engine outside Japan, while the JDM model gets the new engine. I look forward to see the new STI engine though, which is presumably based on the FA platform.

With the switch to the Subaru Global Platform, I hope you guys like the 2.4 that's in the Ascent.

Like @1241Penguin, I presume the next JDM STI will receive a variant of the FA20. As for the next exported STI, a variant of the FA24 with at least 300hp seems more likely, yes.
I actually would not be surprised if Subaru homogenizes the engines between the markets. If I am not mistaken, the export markets got a larger displacement engine primarily because of emission problems. If they were to make a new engine for the STI, I assume they would keep in mind the regulations of all markets, particularly since the original STI was not destined to be sold outside Japan while the new one probably will be.
