My favorite...sales tactics when watching F1

They did it with Vettel before and now with Mercedes.

Nico and Lewis have been neck and neck all weekend so far, Shame about Nico's atrocious first sector but tomorrow will be the race they battle on track........... I hope :D

From what the announcers were saying including a comment from Lewis post-Qualifying, it sounds like Lewis has the first 2 sectors, but Nico has the 3rd. First couple laps should be a nice battle if they get away out of Turn 1. :)

When you look at some of the times, especially over long runs, they're reasonably close. Granted, they're a bit of an outside chance, but I'll bet Mercedes are keeping an eye on them - we know that they struggle in traffic, and they've freely admitted that the clutch isn't what it could be. The front row at COTA is on a slight incline, but the second row is comparatively (if not completely) flat. So of the eighteen rounds to date, this is the one where another car - and maybe even two - beating them into the first corner is a real possibility.
 
Lewis himself said about his pole lap that he saw he gained a lot in the first sector and the second he was basically trying to not lose time and hold on to that initial gap. Third sector he evened out a bit.

Max isn't doing anything special moving in the braking zone, it's not a talent. It's completely reckless and the lack of punishment he's had for his poor defensive driving all season is disgraceful.

I'm not so sure about that. Verstappen has been the most prolific of the aggressive blockers, but apparently several drivers are doing it. Grosjean has named the likes of Sainz and Palmer as also doing it:

If anything, Verstappen looks like the one who is most in control. He's only making his defensive move once the attacking driver picks his line. I'd much rather be following Verstappen into a braking zone than the likes of Palmer.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, I'm not impressed with the FIA crackdown on defensive driving standards. I can understand the rationale for it, but looking at the incident with Verstappen and Hamilton in Japan, it wouldn't have been hard for Hamilton to deliberately run wide and claim that it was forced do that Verstappen gets a penalty and Hamilton picks up second. I'm reasonably convinced that Verstappen did something similar to Rosberg in Germany.

That was actually a letdown to me then, I was naive in 2011. We got to the high speed tracks (Spa, Monza) where I was convinced Vettel wouldn't dominate or take pole because the Red Bull had slow straight line speed. Needless to say he did both, in both races, and I gave up on 2011.

What will be the right (tyre) strategy? Will Ferrari be able to follow RBR. Will RBR be able to make it Mercedes a little bit more difficult....we'll see.

I'm pretty sure that one of the two hardest compounds is mandatory.

Soft and Medium are the two mandatory tyre sets this race. It's not one of those races where the two mandatory sets are both the same compound.
 
So if you don't make it into the top 10, you get 7 sets for the race?
 
Looking forward to the race, hopefully we will see a good battle up front.
 
RIC with SS tyres should have the fastest start. Then he can -hopefully- keep both MERCs behind him and help our Max for a couple of laps to keep the gap between Max and HAM/ROS as tight as possible. Then the right pit stop strategy. Wishfull thinking, who knows? RBR team seems to have a better teamspirit may be this will help during this race?
 
I think alot of people including me regard Alonso, Vettel, Lewis to be the top tier F1 drivers in the current grid. Interestingly enough none of them really shone over their teammates this year, granted 2 out of 3 of said teammates are world champion with the third likely to be one aswell, Is there still a gap between these 3 and the rest?

It should be obvious what the Merc strat for tomorrow is. They will obviously be on SS for the first stint, pit for a long stint on mediums. and potentially end the race on those or do a two stop and end on the SS.

Seems more likely they'll end on Softs.
 
I enjoy watching F1 on Sunday evenings. Very chilled out here.

Who is your money on then?

Lewis is very strong here so it will be hard to look by him. However, I want Nico to win the championship so I would rather see him take the chequered flag. He could have a tough job taking it from Lewis though.

Hulkenberg collided with Kimi which then put him into Bottas.

Seems more coincidence like, the last time they were together was after Spain and Nico decided to be an idiot and try to take out his team mate and failed.
 
I hate NBC.

6 laps into the race and they go to commercial. The race is still heated and intense.
 
Look at that Merc on the Medium for a long stint.
