At least this time it's not a man on the racing surface, but behind a barrier. But still, security really needs to be increased.

I also now have the desire to see the man photoshopped into random sporting events a la John Terry.

Well, he works for Sky ...

Look at the qualifying simulations halfway through FP2 yesterday. Rosberg was a quarter-second quicker than Hamilton, and David Croft and Paul di Resta immediately started speculating as to why. They came up with a laundry list of excuses, from Hamilton encountering traffic to locking a wheel to missing an apex - but the one thing that they never considered was that Rosberg had simply hooked up a better lap and was genuinely quicker than Hamilton on one-lap pace.

Herbert's comments might have had merit a year ago when Honda apparently built the engine out of used Croatian tank parts. But Button's pace yesterday suggested that they pulled a hat out of a rabbit (try it - it's much harder than pulling a rabbit out of a hat), so his speculation is invalid. It reads like an attempt to get ahead of the curve, and run a story that we'll all be talking about a year from now for its incredible foresight.
 
It is a nice surprise to see Button putting himself near the top of the timesheets. I didn't expect McLaren to get on with it that quickly compared to how they were last year.

Rosberg was faster than Hamilton at basically every moment through both Sessions, no wonder they were scraping the barrel for excuses.

Rosberg is always good here, I'd say this is his track like Hungaroring is Hamilton's. It really is that simple, I mean look at what Rosberg did with some of the more slower Merc cars of seasons past here and China. Thus sky shouldn't be defending Hamilton

Hamilton ain't too bad here, won the last two races at this track and got pole last year.

No, they shouldn't be. To my mind, sports commentators are like any other journalists, and so like any other journalists, they should present their subject in a fair and balanced manner. But Sky have an extraordinary love for the British drivers (though weirdly, they don't seem to hold Button in the same esteem as they do Hamilton and Palmer). I know that their audience is British first and foremost, but as an international viewer, I often find that they misrepresent things - they'll say one thing when something else entirely is happening.

Pretty much the late christmas present the fans have been waiting for. :)
I'm just hoping this is an indicator that they've turned yet another corner and found yet more performance, not just a free practice fluke.

Edit: World feed just showed Jock Clear, on the Ferrari stand, but listed him as being part of Mercedes. :lol:

No one ever said he was, I'm a Lewis fan but even I can see that Nico on a good day will beat Hamilton here. If he doesn't get in his own way like usual, there isn't much he can do. Lewis was on it last year, but in 2014 that could have easily gone either way. And a scrap and better strategy saw Lewis win.

But look all the way back to 2010, and you'll see that Nico finishes in the top five (bar 2013 where the tires where eaten away) since. The cars he's driven here range from best of the mid pack to best of them all and he seems to extract the most during many trips to this track. Also last year Rosberg lead the times in FP1 and 2 so it may go Lewis's way today.
 
Vandoorne only .04 off Button. Not bad for only his second day in the car. Was hoping the McLarens would show a bit more pace in P3 though.

Oh well, we'll see what happens with them and Haas in qualifying. Looks like Ferrari might be the team to beat this tomorrow.

The McLaren is a lot more pacy in cooler conditions, so I expect it to go back up the order during Qualy.
 
I see some people (many) are getting happy about the pace Ferrari showed in FP3, as I look at the comments on various other F1 sites. I mean Ferrari are still more than half a second off of Mercedes so...

And I doubt both showed their final forms :sly:

Yeah which is why over the years many believe Kimi should have had more WDC. And it stands to reason if the McLaren's had better reliability back in the mid 2000s, he would have.

I guess the race karma/gods balanced it out by taking away likely championships from Alonso in place of this.
 
Apparently, Jean Todt has asked Pirelli to supply one more set of tyre for the Q3 qualified cars for Bahrein, but the supplier couldn’t for logistic reasons. Could be the case for China he says.

Yep. The stubborn fool is determined not to lose face and go back to the old system.

I really cannot think of anything positive he has done for F1 since he took over at the FIA.
