Especially when the driver spoiled the surprise last year, there was literally 0 point in hyping this scheme up, and yet people still fell for it

I just think they set the expectation too high and make people all antsy and drag out the hype to the point where when it comes out, you'd probably have expected much more. I've never seen a paint scheme that gets me all excited. Some I think are pretty cool but I'm not going to waste my time anticipating it. To each is their own.

Kurt's throwback for Darlington

A bit of explanation on it:

Really like Kurts and Danicas. I like the light blue on the white and brown for Danica and for Kurt, the black Haas logo on the bonnet looks top notch. Both designs seem to be the same with just the colours changed around, maybe SHR will be using all the same for the race.

Dale Jrs on the other hand is crap. It's just his normal design with the colours changed and the Nationwide font changed. Last years Valvoline one was way better and seemed to have much more effort put into it.

It's still a throwback scheme at the end of the day. I agree that his valvoline scheme was better but this scheme is still nice looking. And yea it's his normal scheme but like i said it's suppose to be the gray ghost scheme (with the actual colors)It's a throwback.

I'm guessing Darlington is trying to lure people in while they are making their summer plans.

Also, am I the only one that's already pretty much over the whole "Retro Darlington" thing? It was pretty cool last year, but I feel doing it every year kind of ruins what makes it special.

It's alright as long as they change the schemes from the prior year. If they just go with a repeat then it gets stale fast.

"Please kill me"
Sweetfrog is actually a good product. This car however, needs a red nose and mismatched wheels and it needs to play cheap techno versions of nursery rhymes until it skids off the track a spews oil everywhere. /sarcasm *Or some such nonsense*

I quoted these posts more as a sample but it has not been mentioned in these posts or any posts that Nationwide is using their logo from 1980, which is also the same year that Buddy Baker won the Daytona 500.
There is the throwback idea that I can appreciate.

My babbling commences now.
As far as the heat races, I would think NASCAR is doing what most of the drivers have spent their early careers doing on a typical weekend. I don't call it a gimmick, a throwback maybe.
Just like the overtime, it's not new to NASCAR it's what the 3 attempt "green, white, checkered" started as. This fan prefers a scheduled length race.

For the caution clock, NASCAR might want to consider doing as other series have done/do and have a timed section of the race for pitting. Of course that would be if the fans don't like the current caution clock idea. I liked it when they had 5 minutes breaks half way through the race.

As for late race cautions, listening to race control would help clarify what is actually happening with the debris. I think it's very funny how many drivers see debris when they are about to go down a lap. David Hoots (race control) asks for his/NASCAR's spotters including the pace car (if needed) to look for the debris. If they see debris, he says "Put it out." and the yellow flag flies. On the final lap it's his call whether or not to end it green, accidents included. I have listened to Cup race control for more than 6 years and never heard David making up any debris cautions without the above explained procedure. And don't forget that at the end of a race there are some damaged cars running around the track for points that are losing parts and pieces. NASCAR could eliminate these cars if they did not give points for every position. But that would be the same as start and park which basically is no longer allowed.

Lug nuts need to be monitored by NASCAR before they (NASCAR) are held liable for someones death.
Time for NASCAR to go with the 1 lug like most race series.

All of NASCAR is a gimmick be definition. I've been watching Cup racing before Jeff Gordon showed up and I'll watch Cup racing till the day I die as it's an ever changing sport and I know as much as I don't like change I am not bothered by NASCAR and it's decisions. But that's me, and my babbling.

Of course, Dale Jr. did the same throwback 8 years ago so there is no hype to it. Heck, they did a Mountain Dew Throwback at Darlington that same year.

What I don't understand is why they're showing off the liveries when the race is over 4 months away. Heck, the Daytona 500 didn't have livery leaks back in October of last year, was it late December or early January when they finally were released?

The sponsored would most likely want them to show it off early. They're typically revealed by themselves when they are this early so all eyes are on them instead of having them revealed with a bunch of other.

They should be different, each year celebrates a different time period.

Last years throwback celebrated 1970-74. This year celebrates 1975-84.

This is the time of year where people are starting to plan their summer vacations and by getting teams to unveil their schemes right now they are drumming up interest at the ideal time.

That and to have the diecasts of them released in time for the race

I remember when I was younger we would vacation at Myrtle Beach through the labor day weekend (1984- 88) and that was when I first learned of NASCAR.
That was the same weekend as Darlington and the first year I called ahead for Cup tickets about a month before the race the lady on the phone laughed at me for thinking any seats were available. Saturday's race sure but Sunday has been sold out for months. Those were the days.

I believe the throwback concept is more for the nostalgia of the sport and it's long time loyal fans then getting new fans (which I'm sure NASCAR wants) and unfortunately public relations to sell tickets is needed nowadays.

I never made it to Darlington. :(

Much as that's really very cool I can't help but think it's going to fall. Remember the really cool camera that Fox had for restarts that went and mucked up a bunch of cars a few years ago at Charlotte? I just don't see overhead things attached with cables ending well.

That sweet retro Jimmy John's logo on Harv's car is a nice touch. Always love it when associate sponsors play along too

Seeing that big scoreboard again reminds me of the fact Bristol will host a college football game much like how Daytona is supposed to host a college football game also. The Bristol scoreboard is more like a basketball arena scoreboard. I doubt we'll see a basketball game or something outdoors at Bristol.

I'm still interested to see what becomes of the Heat races in the XFINITY Series this weekend.

Need one for my living room.
Certainly would be a better place versus at a track you can see the whole track from most seats. :boggled:

Put it on a post at places like Pocono that has one grandstand and a very wide infield. I was seated about a 1/3 from the bottom coming off turn 3 and I could barely see half of pit road, turn 1, turn 2 and the short shoot.

I don't want to look away from the actual action I payed to have a seat for.
Sure a big screen at Watkins Glen (or any road coarse) is needed, a couple more would be nice.

Me too. I guess the gimmick is working then. To me it's like qualifying for the Daytona 500, I don't understand all the fuss.

The rules on fixing damaged cars are going to ruin someone's day for sure. It might be like the qualifying, keep the car (tires for qualy) from damage as it only matters where you finish at the end of the day. Blow the engine or crash out late in the heat race and your pretty much done, kaput, no back-up cars allowed. If your car can't start the race then you don't race at all. Could be a lot of cautions with cars running around damaged from the start.
