As cool as it would be to see Jeff back in the car one last time I kinda feel bad for Alex Bowman not getting the nod. They've already picked him once, and he's young, give him a couple chances. Look at his face in the press conference picture, he's clearly looking like he feels shortchanged. Again, would be really cool to see Jeff back one more time, but why not give some young talent a test drive to see what they've got.

It makes sense honestly. Gordon is one of the most successful at the Brickyard. Heck if Jr. was also out for the Glen, Gordon would make sense there as well. Remember that the 88 is still not in the Chase.

If Gordon were to race the Brickyard & win in the 88, wouldn't Dale have to at least start the race in the car for the 88 to make the chase?

Maybe I'm reading this wrong but as far as I know owner points have nothing to do with the chase. It's not like Jeff is going out there and earning points for Junior, unless Nascar makes another special exception thing up.

There's an owner's points chase that is separate from the drivers IIRC

It would make sense if it did. Granted we have rarely seen a team use multiple drivers in Cup and win the title.

More on Jr: According to the Hendrick article, his timeline to return is based upon how long it takes for the concussion symptoms to go away. When they do and when he feels healthy to return, he will go back to racing. Based on it, the Chase is the last thing the 88 camp is worried about.

Very good he's taking care of himself.

When you are a dying form of sports entertainment, bring back the hero who made NASCAR relevant.

I think Jr. needs to retire.

If he got a concussion or concussions off of either the Michigan wreck or Daytona, neither of which were bad whatsoever, he needs to retire for his health.

With concussions, the more you get the easier it is to get them. I know of at least six off the top of my head. One after a bad wreck during Pocono practice in his rookie season, one after a wreck at Fontana in 2002, one after a wreck at Dover in 2003, the two he suffered in 2012, and finally this one. That's all the documented concussions he has had, mind. Who knows what else he had between 2003 and 2012.

I wouldn't be surprised if next year is his last, it should be this year but drivers have to have a farewell tour now apparently.
The constant G forces being applied to the head just from the act of driving these cars makes it very difficult for Jr. to tell his doctors "Hey! I kinda want to go out there and run one more year. Think you can let me?"

The wreck at Michigan is something that is always going to happen at least a few times every season. If Jr. is suffering from the after effects of that hit a month later, he shouldn't be in a car.

By the way... Not saying Jr. won't be in the car next week but I don't think Hendrick would announce a Jeff Gordon return without there being a good chance on delivering

I don't see why, unless he feels he should. It's not like he's been doing bad to the point he should hang it up.
